View Full Version : Gerry Conway Interview
Hey guys, I did an interview with Gerry Conway, who wrote some of the most memorable Spider-Man stories of the 1970s, along with creating Firestorm and a host of other great characters. He's now working on the series LAW & ORDER: CRIMINAL INTENT. The interview mainly talks about his transition from comics to TV.

I liked it. L&O is one of my favorite TV shows.
I know this interview primarily focused on his transition to movie and TV writing, but one thing I've always wondered about Gerry was his short-lived stint as Editor-In-Chief of Marvel Comics in 1976.
From what I've read, I believe it lasted something like three weeks. Or not much longer than that, at any rate. Marvel was going through EICs like a car goes through gasoline, but I think Gerry's tenure was the shortest of all.
I'm just curious as to why he bailed so quickly.

Too many times you hear about comic creators not doing well financially after they stop getting work in comic books.
I am really glad to hear he is still doing well as a writer.

Gerry wrote some of my all time favorite Marvel Comics. L&O i can never get into, but have watched a couple. But i am glad Gerry seems to have done well for himself, and deserves it for the hard work he has done over the years.
Now...one day having him do one last Spider-man comic? ;)

I find it bizarre they don't look for work outside of the field.

How do you know they don't?

My guess if they do is that they don't try very hard.

I saw his name in the credits more than once and thought "Is that the SAME Gerry Conway?"
Glad to know it's him. Good for him!

Maybe you should email them with some career advice then.

An all-time great - not just Spidey but also JLA and is one of best Bat-writers ever. Up there with Finger, O'Neil, Barr, Grant and Dixon.
Surprised there was no mention of the book "Webslinger".
Zack: My only compliant is that the interview was too short. Sadly it looks like you had time-constraints, which is a shame as you seem to have really done your homework. Problem is also I guess when dealing with someone like Conway who has a huge amount of work spread over many fields.
