Very exciting that DC's not making us wait another whole year for another Grant Morrison Doom Patrol tpb. Only 4 months!

Its a bit dissapointing to see that the Flex Mentallo mini isn't being reprinted here like some people thought, but maybe it'll eventually get its own tpb.

Well, I thought part of the law suit was that they couldn't use the Flex Mentallo name or image to sell the mini-series. If I'm right about that, then it would mean we wouldn't know that it was in there until we actually opened the book and had a look.

Is the 5th trade going to be the last of GM's run? If not, then the Flex mini might end up in the next or last one.

Nope - there's another 6 issues after this which they could pad out with Flex Mentallo or the Doom Force special or not at all

So with his Doom Patrol run on the verge of full collection, what does this leave in the Morrison back log? If DC have run out of Grant's stuff to collect, I'd like to see them get off their butts and reprint some of Ennis' work (Hitman, Hellblazer)

Morrison's 10 issue Aztek run has yet to be collected.

Wouldn't mind seeing Aztek, I suppose. Although the only really interesting thing about the character was his death in JLA, but whatever. Any Morrison is good Morrison.

I just got MUSCLEBOUND last week and it's got some of the best stuff in the series in it. I can't wait to see the finale to the Brotherhood of Dada, though - Mr. Nobody's farewell speech is one of my favorite moments in comics.

Aztek, as someone has already mentioned, the 4 or so issues of Swamp Thing he co-authored with Mark Millar, the Flash fill-in run for Waid also with Millar (which, to be frank, doesn't exactly scream out for collection), and probably a new printing of The Mystery Play. It would nice if Vertigo could get the rights to reprint St. Swithin's Day (with Paul Grist- a major piece in the Morrison ouvre, in my opinion) and the ultra-contraversial New Adventures of Hitler (with Steve Yeowell), which is the only Morrison comic run I don't own and have never seen.

Do you even have his uncredited Starvblazer comics?

I'd like to see Zenith get collected but that's unlikely.

Oh, and his run on Zoids for sheer nostalgia.

No, I didn't even know about them. Should I, or are they just something for Morrison completists to hunt down? Because while I may have hunted down Zoids back in my younger days, I wouldn't bother today; it's the best stuff I want to keep.

I've only got one of them and it's pretty rubbish

Aztek was 10 years ahead of everything at the time, its that good. Good call on the year long Flash run. Forgot I have those issues; great how they broke both of Wally's legs in the first issue. But DC should do like they did with Alan Moore and collect the small arcs and stories of Morrison and give me a trade.

SHOWCASE PRESENTS: Lots of Morrison stuff we couldn't be bothered to put in a trade.

Including his two Secret Origin stories, that weird New Gods two page story from a Secret Files that was kinda crappy, That Weird War Tales short story nobody can make head or tails about, this awesome Flash issues, Aztek, Swamp Thing... what else is there?

Is Doom Patrol defunct for an ongoing series? I've never read DP before, but I guess the provacative characters seems to intrigue me now. Is the Authority a good substitute?

There is no Doom Patrol series at the present time, and to be honest, neither of the two recent dP series really followed down the path of Morrison and Case's inspired lunacy. The John Arcudi/Tan Eng Huat was more of a humorous series, although it did have its weird elements. Great art. John Byrne's recent series was pretty poor altogether by my standards.

The Authority is a very different book. It's not as self-conciously weird, and its threats are far more straightforward. I'd say it's more akin to JLA than dP.

The current books that come to mind when I think of Morrison's dP are BPRD (thematically similar-- hunting weird threats to reality, but not as self-conciously strange; a tragic team), Godland (weird, acid trip book that's part Kirby, part Morrison), and Casanova (throws caution to the wind in the name of fast-paced weirdness). All three are very good, with BPRD being the best, although most traditional.

I read the first BPRD trade and was thoroughly underwhelmed.

Casanova is amazing in my book. I wouldn't draw many comparisons between it and Doom Patrol, but it's still easily worth the price of admission.

I've never heard of Godland. If it is indeed part-Kirby and part-Morrison, I'll have to look into it post-haste.

I'd say Casanova has the same tone as Morrison's dP: self-conciously weird, loaded with rock and roll and pop culture reference, presenting itself to the reader with a wink. dP was a hell of a lot more serious, whereas Casanova plays for laughs. Also, dP spent a lot more time on character development.

Godland is wild, and there are two trades out. It's a New God-type story, but with a dP feel. The villains steal the show.

I like BPRD, but it is more of a traditional book. The concept is similarly to dP, although the execution is very different. It's gotten better since Arcudi joined up as co-writer with Mignola, and Guy Davis has been a favorite of mine since Sandman Mystery Theatre.

Happy news for you: Grant got to finish the story exactly the way he meant to. So all you have to do is buy all the trades, and you get the whole story.

Agreed. The book has a terrific "happily-ever-after" ending that totally made my day when I first read it. This is one of my favorite comics series from childhood, and I the final issue breaks my heart every time I read it. You won't want to read any other Doom Patrol books when you're done with it.

That said, SAP, for more GM team-based shenanigans, his run on JLA is excellent, as is his X-Men run (though people REALLY disagree with me on that last one).

Also, have you read Animal Man?
