Lets see.....Robin Williams who just sold a pedistrian movie about a camping trip that did well this year. He's Robin Williams and he can do anything. Hell he's been busy this year. He just played a haunted therapist and now this.
Go ROBIN WILLIAMS !

Loved where he and Lewis Black are riding in the limo and he tells people he wants Bruce Springsteen for Secretary of State. They all stare in shock as he and Black laugh....funny.

If by "looks good" you mean "looks like he's phoning it in", then I agree.

Man in Audience: What a great story! It has everything!
Woman in Audience: This could be the next Free Willy!
Another man: Great pick son, how much do you want for it?
Kyle: Huh?
Man #3: Does it have to be a talking piece of poo?
Man #4: It could be a crime fighting rabbit, or a lovable turtle.
Man #5: This could be a great summer movie.
Woman #2: Can we put a monkey in it?
Man #6: ‘The Mr. Hankey Story’! Is Harrison Ford available for a fall pic?
Man #7: Keanu Reaves!
Man #8: Matt Damon!
Fred Savage: Fred Savage!
[Everyone laughs. Fred looks pissed yet again]
Man #3: I'd pay a million for this story.
Man #4: I'd pay 2!
Kyle: Dude, no one even listened to me.
Stan: Well, it does sound like a pretty sweet movie.

Hollywood was forever condemned when they decided "hey! Let's remake The Wicker Man!".

And I actually had to watch that movie. Ugh!
Although i don't see what is wrong with Robin Williams in Man of the Year.

My sister worked on that movie. Lead Set Deck, as I recall.

He seems to work in the role based on that clip.
Gilda
I know, I think this is the perfect movie for him!
OT - I was watching Death To Smoochy again this weekend, and I'm still baffled as to why critics hated it so much. That movie is absolutely hilarious!!

It looks like a better fit for Williams than most of the movies he's chosen lately. Plus you know Laura Linney is gonna be great.

How can you do The Wicker Man without the songs?!

Robin Williams has a better type of delivery for this type of role than the vast majority of Hollywood.

Gilda
well, attempted maybe. That was a mighty twisted version of feminism you had there. Not that I would mind spending the rest of my life as breeding stock to hot women, but that is not what I call feminism.
It was a horrible movie.

well, they were Pagans in the new movie, worshipping the Goddess of their island and her servents, the bees. The island was completely ruled by the women, however. Men did the hard labor, were used for breeding and they were not supposed to talk.
They actually based it on bee society. The high priestess was the queen, the women were the workers and the defenders and all the men were the drones.

The ending was almost exactly the same...well, almost. They added something else at the end, two women on the Isle looking for their next victim.
Everything else was different.
I think what I hated about this movie is that I already knew how it was going to end, so it was not a "what is going to happen next?" It was a "GET IT OVER WITH ALREADY!"
I got no idea why they decided to remake this movie.

If by "looks good" you mean "looks like he's phoning it in", then I agree.
It's goin to be crap.
Who should have played the "Jon Stewart" role?
Ben Stiller
Edward Norton
Luke Wilson
Terrence Howard
David Duchovny
Jason Lee
etc.
Robin Williams will instead do his typical comedy role that has been stale for YEARS.
1. outdated pop culture reference- (Bruce Springsteen)
2. Obnoxious High pitched voice for no reason (seen in Trailer)
3. White guy as Rapper (inevitable)
4. random celebrity impersonation (he's the Duke! Now he's Jack Nicholson!)
in the 80's he was a comedy god and he's a damn fine dramatic actor when he has the right role... lately... not so much.

Eh, I think Man of the Year looks awesome. Yes, Williams runs hot and cold. I think he will work well here. Plus, as was initially said, this is a great concept with Barry Levinson behind the camera. That sold me. Oh and Chris Walken and Lewis Black. It should be interesting how they play Stewart in this. Or even Colbert as he's gaining steam.

Ben Stiller
Only works in some comedies. He runs more hot and cold than Williams.
Edward Norton
Other than Death to Smoochy I just don't think he's that solid a comedian. And Norton was carried by the comic genuis of Robin Williams in that one.
Luke Wilson
I was too busy laughing my ass off at this one. :p
Terrence Howard
Not into him at all.
David Duchovny
Considering he has a hard as hell time breaking away from Agent Mulder I can't see him playing in this. You have to be funny on purpose. I can't see this guy doing it.
Jason Lee
etc.
I can't see him doing it eithor because he's really became identfied as a bumbling slacker Earl Hickey. Not someone ya see and think....damn that guys a comedian and President !
Robin Williams will instead do his typical comedy role that has been stale for YEARS.
And yet he 9 times outta 10 is good enough to still be in comedies. Williams is the Man. He still can deliver the funny and he doesn't have to try as hard as many do. Because he is a natural out there.
in the 80's he was a comedy god and he's a damn fine dramatic actor when he has the right role... lately... not so much.
I think he wants to do fun movies now. He has Night at the Muesum lined up with Ben Stiller for later this year. He has License to Wed , which is drawing a lot of attention for next spring. In that comedy he plays a Priest who has to dispense marriage advice to Mandy Moore.
If anything he could do middle of the road comedies and still be The Man. :)
