Is this another History of Middle-Earth book?



Sort of. Bits and pieces of this unpublished and unfinished work have previously appeared in the ''History of Middle-earth'' and the ''Silmarillion''. Although Christopher Tolkien is being decribed as the 'editor'' of the new book, it would be more accurate to describe him as a co-author. I do not doubt that he has had to extensively retouch and add to whatever material his father left behind in order to recast it into readable shape. What we will see in this book, not unlike the Silmarillion, may be based on Tolkien's drafts and outlines and notes and so forth,, but the finished literary product will be Christopher Tolkien's responsibility. It should not, therefore, be regarded as any sort of original, unpublished book by the Professor.

I enjoyed the Silmarillion and Unfinished Tales. It sounds like it will be in this format.

I find most of History of Middle Earth to be unreadable.
