Hi. My girlfriend's son is turning 9 next week, and I thought of these Marvel Legends Showdown thingies as a gift.

I don't really get it myself, and I was wondering if anyone here could tell me what you think of these, both as action figures for kids and as a game.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks.

Whats the deal with the color variants for the Sentry? That means there's 4 different Sentry's?

It appears that was taken into consideration. The Wal-Mart nearest me usually only gets in one case at a time. Usually takes a couple of months before they replace one case. With the Giant-Man series, the same store received multiple cases. They had to stack the surplus on a different shelf.

I imagine the first shipments will sell-out quickly. The replacements shipments probably will last a bit longer. It may take all Summer, but eventually everyone who wants this series should be able to get it.

Funny, my local Walmart still hasn't gotten *ANY* of the exclusive figures, or it they have, they haven't put any of them out. They have exactly one Marvel Legends figure on the shelf, a torn up piece of crap from a couple series back. They just replaced all the empty pegs that used to have Marvel Legends figures with Superman Returns.

Yeah, my Wal-Mart is the same. Fortunately for me, the Wal-Mart two towns over is on the ball.

Not around here. Yesterday, I went to two other Wal-Marts, neither of them had anything. So I called a friend of mine who manages a Wal-Mart about 90 miles away, he hasn't seen them either. He was going to take a walk through the back room today and see if they've ever received anything.

Is it possible that the West Coast hasn't gotten any?

My local one in north/suburban Atlanta, GA just got their first case up & out around last Thursday (5/18). I checked Wednesday evening...nothing...I checked Friday at lunch and there was one AOA Wolverine left...that was it (no Kitty...darn it...)

By the way, what is the comic packaged with Warbird.

I don't open my figures, so I have no idea. It looks like the alternate cover to one of the House of M issues. But it uses the Avengers logo -- and says King-Size annual. Is this an old Avengers Annual with a new cover?
It's Avengers Annual 10 first appearance of Rogue when she takes Ms. Marvel's powers. Also Spider-Woman, the X-men, and Mystique make appearances.

Well, that's just idiotic!! Carol doesn't even appear as Ms. Marvel/Warbird in that issue -- except briefly in flashback. Yes, it's a must-read for Carol's history -- but this isn't the issue they should have chosen to spotlight her!

I get the feeling that the Giant-Man series has all been shipped -- and we'll have to wait for more to be manufactured. Or, they are holding onto more until all of the currently released figures are gone. This may take a while as both stores in my area have Saber-Tooths that no one wants.

Cephus

It looks like dealers have bought up almost 100% of the cases in this area. Of the 8 Walmarts I've checked, all of them report massive sales to individuals who filled their carts. In one case, the display case never even reached the floor, it was bought outright by employees.

At the local card and toy show, these figures are showing up at $20-30 each. I'm sure the rest are on eBay.

West Coast? I thought you guys were the ones who had them all. Here on the East Coast, good luck... I remember posts from a month ago from people who'd found them, but not a single Walmart in this area has even a hint they might come out. Been checking the closest one every weekday morning for 3 weeks, every day the same thing... Legendary Riders. Bleh.

Managed to find the Young Avengers at one store, but no sign of the Monster set or the Face Off two-packs either.

Man, I've seen the monster set and nothing else. Apparently Illinois, according to my LCBS manager, is pretty screwed for them.

I've tried two Walmarts, one even had a sign up saying "We are sold out of Walmart exclusive Marvel legends"

Walmarts are bastards.

Here's what I got today when I stopped by my Wal Mart on my way home from work-

Kitty Pryde :D
Captain Britain
Havok
Sentry
Sentry Bearded Variant

Monsters Box
Young Avengers Box

It was a good day to be a grown man who still collects toys. :)

I'm not at all surprised my local Walmart can't manage to get Marvel Legends out. About a week ago, we checked and the only ML figure they had at all was Prof. X, not on a peg, just laying on top of a pile of Superman figures. Yesterday, I went in to pick up a prescription for my wife and I decided to look.

The Prof. X figure is still sitting in EXACTLY THE SAME PLACE! That means that in a week, they couldn't get someone down that aisle to hang it up. No wonder the shelves are empty, they have no stockers.

Sadly, that is probably the most-likely scenario at stores where none of this series appear to have been delivered. I really hope that Walmart orders more of this line -- and replenishes their stock -- so the ebay profiteers have to eat all of the surplus they've collected.

Just tonight, I bought Ms. Marvel and Kitty Pryde, and put the rest of the Giant-Man series on lay-away (my wife was with me; I had to). The only one they didn't have was the bearded Sentry variant. They just got these in, too, for I had to go to Wal-Mart LAST night as well, and none were there.

I haven't seen any of the box-sets there at all, and I frequent Wal-Mart--and its toy section--on a weekly basis.

The latest? Apparently a night stocker has been buying the cases or stealing them and is selling them out the back of his car. A guy that works at my LCBS told me he was approached late one night by a night stocker who offered to sell them to him, and arrange a time to meet him to sell them.

Man I wanna bust that guy, if thats a bustable offense.

F-in jerk.

After getting back to Marvel (But only on digital comics, cheaper back issues and trades) I've become curious about the Marvel figures.

The Marvel Legends figures are of course, great, but I'm curious about the Spider-Man line. Not the figures of Spider-Man figures himself--they seem to have lapsed into the same kind of silliness that the Batman lines have-but the villain figures, which seem to be mostly comic accurate and similar to the "Legends" in terms of detail although they seem to have some kind of 'special feature'. Are the villains figures Legends quality? Or a waste of money?

I suppose this also goes for the X-men and new Fantastic Four lines, it seems that they mix in comic-accurate sculpts with wacky stuff (Although I've heard that the superposable Juggernaught, while not comics accurate, is pretty good). The FF line in particular looks like it has a promising Dragon Man figure coming up.

She hulk

any FF villains would be nice (Diablo, Moleman, and Annihilus particularly)
BAF Lockjaw

I don't know beyond that. I'm not really a hardcore collector but those are the ones I would almost definitly buy.

GLA (Mr. Immortal, Dinah Soar, Big Bertha, Doorman, Flatman and Squirrel Girl)
Amen to that! So long as they do it right - a Gumby-style bendable Flatman, and a plush Big Bertha. And if they can squeeze in one more figure, a Grasshopper would be neat.

Or they could do it as a BAF wave: Mr I (with Flatman as an accessory), Dinah Soar, Doorman, Squirrel Girl (and Tippy-Toe), Grasshopper, and Leather Boy as Dr Doom (with a horribly mutilated Monkey Joe), with a proper-sized Big Bertha as the build-a-figure. There's even existing variant options: Squirrel Girl's alternate costume, Doorman's Angel of Death appearance, and Mr I with a pair of giant scissors stuck through him.

Not likely, but hey, I can dream...

the womens sculpts have always been the sole drawback i have had with the marvel legends as far as quality. the best of them so far has been Phoenix and storm was good...

do you guys consider the spidey classics, ff classics and marvel selects to be A companion line? i take everyone out the package and pose them all together...it seems that most of the figs made in the other lines arent being duplicted in the ML line (some exceptions). I display Hydroman and the Superskrull with my ML's and they look great! Thanos and the Watcher also are in scale and work nicely....what do you guys think?

oh yeah, almost definitly!! like I said, I'm not a hardcore collector but most of my collection (about 20 figs) actually spans 4 or 5 lines. Out of the 20 I have only about 1/4 of that is Marvel Legends. My FF figs (aside from Thing and Doom) are all from the movie and SuperSkrull (one of my favorite figs) is of course from the classics line. My BEast fig is from the Xmen classics line and I plan on getting Rogue whe she comes out. I have Spidey, Lizard, Venom, and Sandman from the SMC line and my Mystique figure is from the first Xmen movie line. So yeah, I have no problem seeing them all together.

I'm actually thinking of getting She Hulk from the Marvel Select line buthaven't decided yet. Does anyone have this figure? Is it any good?

Dude, you can't do a Hellions set until we get a box set of the original New Mutants. Cannonball (with snap-on blastfield), Sunspot in powered-up mode, wolfed-out Wolfsbane, Mirage with buckskin boots and individual belt, "flame on!" Magma, Magik with Soulsword and eldritch armor, and Cypher inside a Warlock battlesuit. And ideally Karma, if they have enough room.

This I command.

Are the Amazing Spider-Man figures-the villains at least-and the non-gimmicky X-men and Fantastic Four figures the same quality as Marvel Legends? I've noticed that the new Hobgoblin figure is being rated pretty highly...

static
06-23-2006, 09:11 AM
I use the hydroman, hobgoblin, man wolf , Scorpion, Sandman and the sinister six set with my marvel legends as well as the absorbing man from the hulk line, the superskrull and Impossible man from the FF line and the Watcher and Thanos from the marvel selects line. They are all in scale and i dont think they are going to be made in the reg ML line so its both a perfect match and the best i can ever expect to compliment the ML line. I dont use the Shehulk from the selects line cuz she isnt very posable.

Cloak and Dagger (especially Dagger) are not in scale with Marvel Legends. She will be much taller then her Legends sisters. They both will have very limited articulation as well. Although the Marvel Selects versions will be good, I would prefer a scaled down, more articulated 2 pack.
As for Professor X and Magneto, if they continue the Face Off packs, they'd probably do this one, since they already have the basic molds for these 2 characters, and they are arch enemies (at times). There are also plenty of costume designes for Magneto that they haven't done (Ultimate Magneto comes to mind) and lots of people wanted the first Prof X in his hoverchair onstead of his wheelchair (check out Fwooshnet). If they can keep making multiples of Captain America, Iron Man and Wolverine, I wouldn't mind seeing this 2 pack.

I may not be alone on this...maybe I am...but I would love to see some two figures for the price of one. It couldn't cost more than the piece of a "build-a" figure. So here are some suggestions.

Everyone comes with a Multiple Man figure. Buy the wave and you have your mini army. COOL!!

Spiderman w/ Peter Parker or Mary Jane
Daredevil w/ Matt Murdoch or Foggy
Punisher w/ Mafia boss/thug
any X-men w/ Hellfire Club agent
you could also mix in Hydra Agents, Kree, Skrulls, etc

C'mon Marvel, give us just one wave where we get something for nothing. Reward us a little. Thanks.

Hey all. Been a while since I've posted. Anyway, one day I'm at Target, and I see these bad boys on the shelf. Currently, the first wave has Captain America, Iron Man, and Wolverine. When I saw it, I just had to get it. I missed out on Marvel Legends when it started, so I didn't want to miss out on this.

So I bought Iron Man. It's so cool displaying it on my shelf. I am planning to buy Captain America as well (for some reason they only sell the unmasked version of Cap). I cannot wait for series 2 - Hulk and Venom, and series 3 - Beast, Spider-Man, and Thor. I'm most excited for Thor just so I can have the Big 3 Avengers.

Anyone else buying them?

Beast
08-14-2006, 08:07 PM
Actually, there are variants of all three. Masked Wolverine, Masked Cap, and Red/Yellow Iron Man are the regular versions. Unmasked Wolverine, Unmasked Cap, and Red/Gold Iron Man are the variants. Series II's variants are Grey Hulk and Transforming Venom (You see Eddie Brock's head getting consumed by the Symbiote).

As for series three, it's only Beast and Spider-Man. I'll be getting Beast and probably the variant. The Thor you saw is part of Hasbro's line. They have Wolverine, Thor, Dr. Doom, and Thomas Jane Punisher on the list so far.

I think they're pretty boss, but considering that I have 80-plus 6-inch Legends on my shelves laready, the last thing I need is to start buying foot-tall versions, too.

I might change my tune if they come out with figures that make sense to team up with the existing line -- similar to the BAF Goliath, Sentinel, etc.

Here's an idea. With all the marvel legends out there. and all the figures we have seen we haven't seen the Inhumans. So why not an intire Inhuman build a figure set.

Black Bolt
Madussa
Crystal
Quick Silver
and Gorgon

and they can each come with a piece of Lockjaw

It's unlikely that they'd make a whole wave focused on one group. After all they're trying to interest all the fans. I can see Lockjaw being done as a build-a-figure, but it wouldn't be in a straight Inhumans wave.

It doesn't matter who the writer is, that's the issue. Unless you put the kids in costumes, they're not going to get retailer interest. Because the retailers don't follow the comics, they just buy what looks cool.

I'm majorly annoyed at the ML 15 variants...because I soooooo want that "Destroyer" version of Thorbuster Iron Man....but I've -never- seen a variant on the shelves from -any- wave, and aren't sure these last two waves will be any different.

The Spider-Woman variant is nice, too.

Wasp I'd be happy with any of them.

And an "Inhumans" box set would rock.

Beast

They said that the variant cases would be a lot more than normal, mostly due to the number of wanted variants that are in this case. So you may be able to at least find them cheap online.

May have to disagree there. Direct market retailers stocked Buffy and Angel figures, and they don't wear superhero costumes.

That's a totally different thing. You're talking about Specialty Markets, such as comic shops, etc. Direct market accounts for very little of Marvel Legends sales. The major toy companies have to sell things to Wal-Mart, Toys R Us, etc. And those companies have little to no interest in things that don't look 'cool'. Hell, it's retailer resistance that accounts for a severe lack in female characters from the toy companies. Only recently has there been some movement on this issue, as retailers learn that female figures do sell.

AXM Cyclops, AXM Ord, and AXM Danger w/ Wings were seen also. Though there's rumor that they may be in Face-Off 2-Packs. Here's hoping for AXM Cyclops vs. Ord and AXM Beast vs. Danger.

Marvel Select: Cancelled ML Henchmen 2-Packs in '07!!

This is great news for those of us who really wanted to get our hands on these army builders for our Marvel Legends. The first 2-Pack being offered is being dubbed the "Alien Legends 2-Pack" and will include a basic Brood and Skrull grunt. Hopefully they will sell well enough that we'll see the A.I.M Soldier, Hellfire Club Soldier, Kree Soldier, Hydra Agent, Hand Ninja, and Doombot as well. And then maybe we can see some of the other cancelled items from Marvel Legends. Maybe a Spiral figure with the X-Babies and Baby Avengers. :)

Marvel Select Alien Legends Two-Pack

The best-selling Marvel Select line will contain a very special two-pack next year featuring Toy Biz’s own previously unreleased Brood and Skrull figures! Originally planned as part of the phenomenally successful Marvel Legends line, these alien legends have been brought back from the brink of annihilation and will hit stores next spring.

Featuring the same articulation and attention to detail as previous Marvel Select figures, these alien warriors are no match for Earth’s heroes. Whether invading the X-Mansion or infecting Wolverine with their eggs, the Brood are as treacherous as they are bloodthirsty – making for a very explosive combination! Less threatening but just as deadly are the Skrull, a race of intergalactic warriors bent on the destruction of the Kree – and any who dare stand in their way.

“When these figures were originally cancelled, fans made their wishes quite clear. Since Toy Biz sculpts and develops our Marvel Select line, it was only natural to inquire about the availability of these particular goons,” says Michael Leavey, Marketing & Sales Coordinator for Diamond Select Toys. “So far the response has been great, and we’re definitely looking forward to similar opportunities in the future.”

With a suggested retail of $19.99, be on the lookout for these cosmic soldiers in comic book and specialty stores next spring!

Good news, I'll likely pick them up.

By the way regarding the current Mojo Wave I've gotten Luke Cage (who's awesome), Falcon, Baron Zemo and Psylocke so all I need are original suit Iron Man and Longshot but are they any good? For some reason original suit Iron Man is never on the pegs in the Times Square TRU and I wanted the variant Falcon so bad but that one is hard as HELL to find. Longshot is relegated to peg warming too so I'm always hesitant to buying those but maybe The Lucky One will convince me otherwise ;)

Regarding the Wave 2 of the Hasbro Marvel Legends figures, the latest Toyfare revealed them as they look right now and my lord do they look bad. I don't know if it's just bad paint jobs or what but they don't look nearly as good as they did during the show. The only ones that looked even remotely well done were Viking Thor and Ultimate Wolverine but they looked very simplified and flatter looking so I'm not seeing the upside to the line being handed down to Hasbro yet.

I think they all look pretty good. Let's face it, the mass production figures are never going to look as good as the original hand-painted prototype that is shown. Other than the variant Jean, I like them all. And frankly, I'm glad they de-grossed Blob a bit. He was a bit too over the top in the fugly department. :)

Will.S
11-10-2006, 04:53 PM
I dunno, most of the Marvel Legends prototypes have at least been pretty close to their real release looks.

The Hasbro prototypes just looked so great that seeing the final product really makes them look worse. I don't know if it's just the paint job or if the sculpts are just better pronounced in the prototypes but comparitively it looks like Hasbro simplified them a good deal.

Hank Pym looks like a definite downgrade:

http://img165.imageshack.us/img165/3577/img2240rw7.jpg

http://img142.imageshack.us/img142/2235/img2234mj4.jpg

Original suit Iron Man is awesome... ironically, the arms and legs move a lot better than some of the more modern armor IMs. But yeah, he's almost impossible to find, even the regular version.

As for Longshot... well, obviously I'm biased. I'm just happy there's a Longshot figure at all. But looking at it objectively, he's not the best ML figure that's ever been released. He doesn't stand very well at all, and the fact that the throwing blades are sculpted onto his hand instead of a snap-on piece is annoying. Plus he's definitely the pegwarmer, which is demoralizing. But he poses well, and the bandolier and satchel (it's not a man-purse, dammit!) are cool. Was glad they remembered the detail of the knife strapped to his leg too, even if it's usually a machete and the star is the wrong color.

But bottom line, you need all of them to construct Mojo, who's an awesome BAF. Even if it's almost impossible to get him to stand straight on those spindly legs.

Ahh, thanks for the feedback.

I actually do want to complete Mojo but with the Iron Man issue I'm hoping I'll be able to find him at all which is odd since usually the female figures are harder to find. Heh at least with Longshot I guess I'll be one figure close to making the Outback Era X-Men.

Yeah, I can usually find any of the ML figures by searching two or three stores. With the original Iron Man I tried over a half dozen and even then I only found one with the silver armor. I'd love to have the gold, but I know it's not happening.

While I still have some issues with the articulation (hands have no joints to make a fist and a few figures don't have foot joints), those look MUCH better than the other pics. You can tell that they use the same exact sculpt for Qucksilver and yellowjacket though.

And YIKES on the Ultimate Wolverine face, jeez.

Beast
11-22-2006, 07:46 PM
The foot joints are fairly pointless anyway. And as for the hand ones, I don't mind losing the joint there if we do. Most of the figures never come with accessories, so articulated fingers or hands are pointless. As for Wolverine's face, I like it. It fits really closely the Ultimate comics look he's styled after.

I actually use them a good deal. It's just nicer to have but it seems that most of them have the foot joints anyway.

It's not so much about the accessories to me, it's more about getting as much articulation as possible to be able to do alot more poses in them either to mimic a comic cover or to do some cool battle scene. The She-Hulk figure for example is looking like it's going to be slapping/choking bitches an awful lot.

So yeah- i know this is going to sound like hearsay- (and it is, i suppose...) but a very good friend of mine works in a toystore had a visit from some Hasbro people today. He's... what you'd call an extreme comic fan, and started up a conversation about their Marvel figures- And supposedly, they informed him of some boxed sets they were thinking of making- namely Runaways and Inhumans. He said they were a little unsure as to whether or not they'd sell well, so if you're interested, i'd suggest writing a letter or something. And before i'm accused of spreading ill-gotten knowledge, I've known this guy for 6 years, and i'm convinced that he doesn't know how to lie. This seems to be the real inside scoop, straight from RI!

Its the new Hasbro line. Its got Emma Frost, Banshee, Movie Beast, Hercules and I think Planet Hulk. But the package is new so you could have passed them. But there due out in January but I know with Hasbro there sometimes released early.

The first wave was:

Daredevil/Kingpin (variant unmasked DD/black coat Kingpin)
Hulk/Leader (variant angry Hulk/original head Leader)
Captain America/Red Skull (variant unmasked Cap/Baron von Strucker)

Second wave just hit, it's:

Mid-90s armor Iron Man/masked Mandarin (variant War Machine colors/green, unmasked Mandarin)
1st appearance Wolverine/old costume Sabretooth (variant "angry heads")
Punisher/Jigsaw in Punisher costume (variant different head Punisher/Jigsaw in a suit)

The Brood and Skrull were originally going to be pack-ins with ML but were scrapped.

Hopefully if that set does well -BROOD!!!!!- then we'll see some army builder sets (like the cancelled packins with Hydra agents and the like) and maybe the X-Babies/Avenger kid...things.

Oh and yeah, I got the ML Beta Ray Bill earlier last month and ML Wasp on my birthday.

Wasp is actually really good, save for the paint app on mind that makes her look like she put her eyeliner and lipstick on drunk. (The left side of her face is crap. Eh, nothing a little paintjob with my new acrylics can't fix!) Otherwise, fantastic. And if I could customize, I'd SO make one into a Phyla-Vell.

Beta Ray Bill... IS LOVE. Seriously, this is my favorite ML hands down. He's just so.... AHHHHH AWESOME. Well, Hasbro has said they will do variants when it makes sense. But unlike the Destroyer , Giant Man, etc. deal with Toy Biz... they said they would never be all new characters and just repaints and retools. The first one so far is Dark Phoenix from X3. The variant will have her 'Phoenix' look with the pale skin, veins, and black eyes.

To be fair, those early sculpts weren't really very good. I'd rather see them do some new sculpts and if they do re-release some figures, do the HTF chase figures like Dark Phoenix. Not to mention both Cap and Hulk have had recent updated sculpts in the Marvel Legends line. Hulk as both single carded and in a 2-pack with Leader, and Captain America in a 2-pack with Red Skull or Baron Von Strucker.

I don't mind the variants themselves but the distribution of them is what bothers me the most. I'd rather have a 50/50 of each figure that has a variant so that at least people can get the best of both.

Like today I saw the red and black Wasp variant and the White variant Moon Knight costume but given that I had no choice to choose those earlier when I had bought them I don't feel the urge to rebuy them. BTW Moon Knight in particular disappointed me as a figure since his cape and cowl never come out right when you want to him face left or right since it's too fixed. The legs are a real pain in the ass too since they make him too awkward and stiff looking so its harder to get out an exciting pose.

Agreed.

I actually want a redone Toad and Dr. Doom and maybe even Magneto. While I still love the Mags figure, it's too obvious that it's derived from the IM sculpt. I'd also want another readily available Deadpool and Phoenix figure, a redone Black Cat, a contemporary Rogue figure with the green and white costume (or AoA), Astonishing Beast and maybe Mole Man.

Heh same here.

Hasbro is being pretty smart with these figures in continuing the line using figures that haven't been made yet. BTW I just bought the two recent Face-Off packs with 90's Iron Man & Mandarin and First Appearance Wolverine & First Appearance Sabertooth.

First off, the paint jobs are decent but sloppy. I especially dislike the way they colored Iron Man's helmet since the lower chin part of the mask remained yellow where it was supposed to be red. I never modify my figures but I figure a little red here will improve the fig.

http://img205.imageshack.us/img205/7554/picture51lq8.jpg

Second, the arm pieces come off too easily and if you lose them....forget it it'll be like trying to find a needle in the haystack:

http://img204.imageshack.us/img204/6043/picture52ng9.jpg

Then there's Mandarin:

http://img135.imageshack.us/img135/6251/picture53vo8.jpg

Now I love the sculpt, love the paint and love the costume but just HOW THE HELL AM I SUPPOSE TO POSE HIM?!? It's worse than even the Dr. Strange figure, they really should have ditched the molded rubber and went either a real cloth or with the green robe as part of the sculpt of the figure with joints in the elbows, shoulders and a swiveling joing at the wrist.

The Sabertooth figure is pretty darn cool though even though mine has a loose left arm and the Wolverine one is great. He's very stumpy and well painted and sculpted but the paint job varies wildly. My only problem with Wolverine was that it came with the feet switched so I had to pop them out and switch them back. Lame.

Ultimately the Cap vs Red Skull and Kingpin vs DD face off series was WAY better. These are mainly good for nostalgic flavor of their respective looks as I especially loved the 90's Iron Man armor, Mandarin's look and Sabertooth's 70's intro costume but they are definitely lower quality figures.

Well of the ones that I purchased, the first wave of Cap vs Red Skull and DD vs Kingpin were awesome. Very good if not decent paints and the poseability is top notch (although DD I would bump down a bit).

This current second wave is just merely OK but I'm disappointed with the Iron Man figure and the Mandarin one is pretty much as useful as a statue. The Wolverine vs Sabertooth face offs on the other hand are quite good although the paints get pretty splotchy so if you see them in the store see if they have others to choose from. Sabertooth is awesome and Wolverine has a very good paint job and sculpt.

Congrats for opening and playing - that's the only way to enjoy an ML.

I've found the new face-offs to be a toss-up. Pay close attention to the joints and the paint jobs on wave 2. I've seen some awful paint jobs on those, especially with IM-Mandarin and, to a lesser extent, Wolvie-Sabretooth. The Punisher-Jigsaw pieces have all looked peachy.

The wave with DD-Kingpin, Hulk-Leader and Cap-Skull was really top notch. Very rare to find a bad lot there.

Grabbed both Beasts, actually. The Lab coat Blue Beast and the 1st Appearance Grey Beast. :)

What I don't get is why "grey" Beast is in reality jet black. He looks like a furry Venom.

Weird. Maybe all the ones that shipped to NJ/PA were mispainted. Or maybe it's yet another variant, but man, that sucker was definitely black. And I saw it in two different stores, they were both the same way.

It could be the store lighting. I've seen that happen before.

"Planet Hulk" Hulk
Ultimate Iron Man
Lord of Asgard Thor

Looking forward to these, I love the design of the Lord of Asgard Thor, and the Iron Man is a must. I have all of his figures except the gold variant 1st appearance version...damned variants :(

The X-Characters sell the best, which is why they usually get weighted pretty heavily in the case mixes. Just be glad that Spidey has his own seperate line, or there would be a bloody Spider-Man in every wave, along with Wolverine. I'm actually glad there's only one Wolvie so far in Hasbro's ML. Still, there's some great non-X characters mixed in there. Wave 3 if it pans out is actually the worst with X-Men. Which is why I doubt it will pan out exactly as rumored. ;) :D

Has anyone picked up any of the new Spider-Man Origins line? I picked up the Doc Ock and the Spidey 2099 figures.

The Doc Ock is well-articulated and has super-cool gripping tentacle claws. Worthy of Legends status.

But the Spidey 2099 is almost inarticulate. Luckily he makes a nifty display piece, but his pose-ability is awful.

Is there a new Scarlet Spider figure coming out anytime soon?

I haven't seen any figure of it yet but I guess Hasbro might pump that one out in due time.

BTW speaking of scarlet characters, it's too bad Toybiz never got around to released the improved Scarlet Witch figure Jesse Falcon was promising after having been disappointed by the one that was released. Hopefully Hasbro will use her Coipel designed look and make a better figure.

I picked up Mysterio yesterday. Very cool excerpt that the buttin for the 'action feature' sticks out like a mile and a half. So I actualy popped off his dome, removed the head inside and then cut the button off the back. I'm going to fill the hole on the cape with some liquid latex mold builder when i get a chance. but, yeah he's a pretty cool sculpts. I really like the texture and pain on him.

I found part of the hasbro wave V1 in Target today. Picked up Hercules, Planet Hulk and Banshee (no Emma Frost  ). This could have just been the area (Middle Tenn) but they were $9.99 each, versus what, $7.50-$8? In addition, while you'd think we'd get superior quality and product for an extra $2, it's actually a little inferior to the old line. Banshee and hercules have no hand articulation past e wrist (although Hulk does,) and Banshee's neck is a little too long so it looks awkward. I also realize this would have probably been not possibl e with price, but since Banshee's powers ARE sonic, mouth joints to move his mouth open/closed would have been cool. Granted though, that is probably because I HATE the open mouth look some of the toys have.
Things I did like - I don't have the original Hulk, so the fact the Planet Hulk's helmet is removeable is a plus. Also so are Banshee's "wings". hercules is (aside from no finger joint articulation) pretty well done. His facial features are kind of goofy but that fits in with the characters happy-go-lucky nature.

That said, I don't know if this is an improvement or not. We're getting some really cool figures in the months ahead, and that's a plus that will keep me buying them. Maybe with the next wave in production Hasbro can rethink the finger articulation. And while it's doubtful, dropping the price by a $1 - $1.50 would go a long way to continuing collecting in the long term. $10 a figure plus tax is a LOT.

Even though its X-Men heavy, I get pretty much a break while still having figures I want from each wave.

W1: Emma Frost
W2: Xorn
W3: AXM Cyclops, OG Storm

I really hope Emma turns out okay...

I'm concerned by the quality, too. I'm pretty disappointed with the face sculpt on Emma. But I need her to round out the Astonishing team on the shelves, so...Cha-ching, Hasbro.

If a Hasbro rep's reading this, let's got hopping on these characters :)

Polaris
Warpath
Forge
Madrox (in Multiple Man guise)
Invisible Woman
Modern Luke Cage

As long as you have the figure and proof of purchase from the card back they should replace it for you free of charge. I got a Thor-armor IM with two right hands and am in the process of getting a new one from Toybiz.

Totally agree on Polaris. She's probably the most needed X-Character to be made now, followed by Cannonball, Moonstar and Forge (IMO)
Avengers, I would love to see US Agent, Black Knight, Pulsar and Sersi.
Baddies that come to mind first would be: Vulcan, Count Nefaria, Graviton, Viper, Enchantress, Klaw, Sebastion Shaw, Selene, Kang, Shadow King, and Grim Reaper.

If they made all of the above, I'd probably be the happiest Marvel Legends addict on earth.

Well they are on the shelves now and the Hasbro Legends are pretty horrible, I couldn't even bring myself to buy them just to build Annihilus (the only cool part of most of the figures). Hercules is the only one that doesn't look like cred, Emma and Banshee look exceptionally bad and Emma doesn't even look in scale to the rest of the figures. And this is from somebody that has nearly every past Marvel Legend including the Classics such as Rhino, Storm, Scarlet Spider, Shocker, etc...

Emma is actually not that bad in my opinion. Banshee's definatly the worst of the bunch.

Just curious but which is the best black costume Spider-Man figure?

I know the Toybiz Spider-Man classics had one but it was just a spidey head on an Iceman body and I'm wondering if the current Hasbro black costume Spider-Man is good.

What's the deal with the WWII-looking Captain America figure? The one with the triangular shield. Has it become one of those urban myth ghost-figures that are just impossible to find?

Honestly, I don't think she looks bad. It's a lot better than some of their female figures. Or even some of their male figures. I think it's mostly the hair which is the real problem.

I'd want to see Emma from all angles before making a judgement - a single photo (especially a straight frontal) can be unflattering. I just stared at the face of my Rose (Doctor Who) figure for a moment, straight from the front, and y'know it started looking pretty seedy - but turn it five degrees off centre and put it on the shelf, and it's a great likeness of Billie and a damn fine lookin' little plastic woman.

Man, I cruised by just about every single store in town that sells Marvel Legends figures today, which included 3 Walmarts, 2 Targets, 2 fred Meyer's, and a Toys R' Us looking for Ultimate Iron Man and Planet Hulk, but EVERY store was wiped out of EVERY single figure. Not even a Banshee remained. In every section there were tons of toys surrounding 3 completely empty sections all marked "M. Legends $9.99". Smells like Ebay sellers doing, buy at the store for 10 bucks then turn around and sell for 15 +shipping.
