3rd Annual Denver 24-Hour Comic Challenge moves to the Capsule Gallery & Event Center

The 3rd Annual Denver 24-Hour Comic Challenge has moved to the Capsule Gallery & Event Center at 560 Santa Fe Dr. in Denver. It begins on Saturday, September 30th at noon and goes through Sunday, October 1st at noon.

The idea of the 24-hour comic was invented by leading comics theoretician, Scott McCloud, who devised it as a challenge to show creators just what they are capable of. The challenge is to complete a 24 page comic written and drawn by one person in the course of 24 consecutive hours. The moment the pencil hits the paper, the clock is ticking. You can eat, sleep, or do anything else you need to during the time, but the clock keeps going. Local cartoonist, Stan Yan from the Squid Works comic creator cooperative will be moderating the event and will be helping participants select randomly generated story ideas.

Challengers have through Friday, September 22nd at noon to register to participate in this year’s event. To register, call Stan Yan from Squid Works Comics at 303-452-9046 or send him an e-mail at stan @ squidworks.com. There is no registration cost, but participation will be limited to 40 people. The event is open to the public and non-participating art and comics enthusiasts are also encouraged to drop by and watch challengers draw (no registration necessary).

Upon arriving at the event participants are all required to sign a release form. All ages welcome, however parental guidance is required: participants under 18 years old will need to have a parent or guardian sign a release form (we suggest parents or guardians accompany younger challengers for duration of the event).

Challengers should bring their own drawing supplies and paper, as well as snacks and beverages to keep their energy level up. Event sponsor, Qdoba Mexican Grill (http://www.qdoba.com), has generously agreed to donate dinner for Saturday evening. Successful challengers will have their stories printed and available through the stores of event sponsor, Mile High Comics (http://www.milehighcomics.com). It is imperative that ALL challengers arrange for transportation to and from the event – challengers nor their accompanying guardians must not drive home sleepy!
