HellboyOne and I got to see the film, courtesy of Doug Jones. I sat next to Doug as he watched the complete film for the first time. It is really a wonderfully sad, moving, beautiful film. You should definitely seek it out. Meanwhile some people in Toronto got the see Guillermo's new baby and loved it.

Thanks Tad! One more voice to add to the chorus of well wishers for this film. My biggest issue is that it doesn't come out until December here in the US for most of us! :D

Lucky.

Well, I was on the fence about going to see this but now, well...ok, I'll give it a shot.

Ha! Right! Have been dying to see this since I saw the first teaser. Can't wait. What I can't figure out is the fact that so many people use the word "sad" to describe the film. Not a word I would have expected. Makes me even more curious.

I was psyched to see this at the New York film festival, but the tickets were sold out to members I think before they even went on sale to the general public. So I guess I'll be seeing it in December sometime like everyone else.

I hope it'll get to europe eventually... It's magic climate of this movie reminds me of my favorite motion picture by Tim Burton Sleepy Hollow- now that was one great movie! That opinion is based only on the trailer, mind you...

It is a remarkable film - visceral, brutal, magical, beautiful ... all of these and much, much more. And yes, 'sad' comes to mind, but the film still leaves you full of wonder. It was interesting as the audience filed out of the cinema, even after a Guillermo del Toro Q & A, to see how thoughtful and quiet they were, as though still trying to ingest what they'd seen. The only comment I heard over and over was 'I'm going to have to see this again ...'

When I spoke to GdT a couple of days later, he asked me what I thought of the film ... and I found I couldn't really tell him. I used words like 'beautiful' and 'astounding' and 'magical,' all of which are really inadequate. The film was still rattling around in my head and I knew I just had to see it again to begin to appreciate the layers and nuances in a film which is nevertheless satisfying on all levels - a fantastic and beautifully rendered story, but with so much more to see every time you watch it.

Go see it.

Isn't it December YET? :(

Thanks for the link to the interview - very insteresting and I liked learning about his early learning about the Spanish Civil War.

He looks very well! :)

The preview for this looks great, I showed my girlfriend and got her interested in it as well. The last visually cool and different movie I saw was Mirrormask but the story was a lil bleh I thought.

In the interview GDT said that he was able to showcase his creativity much more in this movie compared to how much the studios cut out of his hellboy script/film.
