My best advice would be to check out DDP's forum (Devil's Due Publishing).

Not too many people probably read G.I. Joe, and there are plenty of members at DDP who read the book and either enjoy/hate it.

It's a great series. BUT, I am a child of the 80's and I have the entire run of the original Marvel series.

The current storyline is pretty decent. The Joes have been re-activeated by the government. Cobra is not as disbanded as we were led to believe. As always we see Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow all the time. Duke is still the coolest guy on the team. and Flint now reminds me of the Punisher.....

for more details, definitley check out DDP, who is celebrating their 5th anniversary!

I'm trying to read it, but I a) keep forgetting to buy it, and b) usually am out of money when I remember to buy it. My lone issue of the "current" series (America's Elite?) is #14, which is about a month or two behind at this point. I liked the issue, although I certainly would benefit from knowing just what's going on. I'm also uncertain of what I need to be buying in order to catch up fully with the DDP run.

You should probably get into it if you like the G.I. Joe franchise. I liked the original cartoons of 20-odd years ago and had a basement full of the toys, so I'm pretty much predisposed to like anything G.I. Joe so long as it's not abysmally bad. It appears, based upon my understanding, that
Cobra Commander has infiltrated the White House as a trusted member of the President's staff and has his own special operations unit purportedly working for the White House.

I second the recommendation to visit the DDP forum. The people who actively post there seem to be of the sort who can actively recall what happened in the first issue 15 of G.I. Joe Special Missions, the one that never made it to market but which Marvel/Hasbro ordered destroyed due to a printing error. That never happened, so it's more for illustration of the breadth and depth of the common posters' knowledge. It's almost intimidating for someone like me who never read the originals.

Scarlett: Declassified is really good, in my view. :D

If you don't want to jump into this book, yet, I'd recommend either the Frontline one-shots, which focus on reserve members, or some of the Declassified issues, the most recent one telling Scarlett's origin. The newest one will reveal Zartan's history, and I'm very much looking forward to it.

Thus far in America's Elite, Hawk has practically been declared insane, though he's back, not in charge, but in the picture. Duke went in search of Cobra Commander, with Spirit's aid, both were physically and emotionally put through the wringer, when they were captured, but have since been freed. Snake Eyes died, then came back, turned traitor, then returned to the Joes. Storm Shadow's good again.

The government wants to significantly decrease G.I. Joe's budget, stemming from Cobra Commander's manipulation on the White House. There seems to be a new branch working called The Phoenix Guard. They've appeared, but their story hasn't been told. More than likely, their all mercenaries put together, but they are also after Cobra.

That's about it.

I wouldn't have put it out of the realm of possibility that the Phoenix Guard was more or less under the direct control of Cobra Commander and that he was sending them to mop up teams of Cobra chumps or something, all part of the plan to discredit G.I. Joe and then operate with a free hand later. I could, of course, be wrong.

The Zartan book might be very interesting, even though I never had his figure or really liked the guy. Meanwhile, I need another copy or two of the Scarlett book, and here's to Lady Jaye: Declassified. :D
