Whoa
I'm shocked that there's no thread on this, maybe i didn't search hard enough.

anyways is anyone else excited about this? I loved this series back in the day, and mourned it's slow death.

it had so much potential! though i would have preferred them staying in the UK away from the rest of the MU.

anyways, thoughts?

Alan Davis came up with it during the days of Marvel Uk. It would have been part of that line, but then Marvel US closed down the imprint, and published Clan Destine in the US.

Here's a bit more info:

Very good news. I'll generally buy anything Davis does, but I especially liked his work on this series.

I was a huge Clan Destine fan, so I am ecstatic about their return.

Hopefully this means the original will be traded as well.

Hopefully this means the original will be traded as well.

There was a trade back in the '90s that included Davis' work on the series and Clandestine vs. X-Men. It skipped the few issues that came out after Davis left. I'm sure it will be reprinted when the series comes out. I'm always up for some weird, goofy Alan Davis work (because it is weird and goofy in the best sense possible-- fun).

I was also a fan of the original series.
I'm also a Davis mark so I am extra thrilled at this!

If you enjoy the hunt you can probably get these in the quarter or dollar bins at your LCS... it would be cheaper than the trades.

Clandestine was great. I have the original series, plus their 2 mini crossover with the X-Men. It will be interesting to see what they've been up to since they were last seen. Especially Kay. Her adventures are always interesting.

With this new Clandestine does this leave the door open for other Marvel UK properties to return?

You know, it could well be.

First they brought Excalibur back, both Pete Wisdom and Union Jack are both being given a limited series, and now Clan Destine are back, too.

It's like there a mini British Character Renaisance goin on at Marvel. :D

With these number of titles it wouldn't be too dificult to reintroduce people to some of Marvel UK's other characters.

I hope that us readers and the editors will allow davis to do this his way. nice and slow. None of this mandated 3/6 issue stories for no purpose, single arcs, thing that has been going on. I loved the subplots and suspense of the davis penned issues of the first series. and the innumberable possible family members, hinted at on the cover of issue 1. gold foil and all.

i'm bloody psyched.

so can someone give me some info on this series. Like why it was stopped in the first place? Was it popular? A decent seller? How many issues were there. Was there an ending or was everything left hanging?

I'm interested in this but know nothing except what i've read on wikipedia.

I guess it's safe to say there will be a trade colection of the old series?

can't be 100 % but i am sure it stopped due to low sales. it lasted barely a year, and series creator/writer/artist was replaced for the last story arc. only to be retconned (the arc) in a crossover with the x-men also done by davis.

i don't really remember the internet back then so can't say how popular it was.

there was an ending of sort, but there were plots left hanging.

i wonder what deal was brokered to make this happen again. go davis.

There was an actual story arc after Davis left? I only recall one issue coming out after Davis left. Did I miss something?

Davis last issue was 8, there were 4 issues after that (12 being the last, not including X-Men&Clan Destine). And the less said the better. Vincent came back to life, Adam disappeared, Oz and Kay started a relationship (but it was OK, because Oz was adopted *sigh*) Davis pulled the "it was all a dream"-retcon on those 4 issues.

First, sorry if there is a thread about this.

According to the Marvel website. Alan Davis remains Marvel Exclusive and says he plans to bring back the Clan Destine, his own creations which had a 12 issue run (him writing and drawing 8 of those) and a 2 issue crossover with the X-men.

Link here: http://www.marvel.com/news/comicstories.625

For me this is good new, love the characters, good to see they are being used again.

P.S. Anyone got any better links then this?

I read the issue immediately following Davis's departure. It was crap as I recall. But I didn't recall seing any others after that. (Or maybe I just blocked it from my memory.) But where/when did Davis retcon that story away? I don't recall any mention of it in X-Men/Clandestine (although it's been a while since I read it) and he hasn't done any other Clandestine material (as far as I know).

X-Men/Clan Destine had Rory telling his sister about the weird dream he had "The family were all acting out of character, William came back from Australia and told us Kay wasn't really our sister and then Vincent came back to life ..." (the events of Clan Destine 9-12, though Davis did make an error: William wasn't blood-related to the family, not Kay.)
Pandora tells him that that sounds stupid and thinks the family are complicated enough as it is. (I missed it the first time as well, but somebody else alerted me to it)

I'll buy anything lan Davis draws. The fact that we'll be getting a lot of artwork from him in the coming months (Clandestine, FF: the End, Stan Lee Meets Dr. Strange) is excellent.

Clandestine was an amazing series, and I'm glad Marvel is allowing Davis to return to these characters. Here's hoping the book is a big success.

On his forum, Alan offered this explanation for why he left Clandestine originally:

I began work on The ClanDestine a few months before the first big Comic Industry implosion. Marvel UK was the first victim and had been publishing something like 25 titles until literally overnight, they were reduced to publishing one-- The ClanDestine. BUT it wasn't as simple as that because Marvel UK were no longer actually publishing any comics... Marvel US were/did. I wasn't aware of the arrangement until things started to go wrong-- which were euphemistically dismissed as 'falling through the cracks' (that translates into nobody was in charge or taking responsibility). The reality was each division of Marvel assumed the other was promoting the book (etc) but neither did. I soon began to feel I was in limbo and producing work that may never see print. (Many of the other Marvel UK titles that were cancelled had three or more issues completed which have never been published-- and some of them were very good). In a nutshell I lost confidence with the system and quit while I was ahead-- or at least before I lost too much.

Yummy Alan Davis Art! I loooooved Clan Destine when it came out....and I loved the X-Men crossover too...

so does Alan own the rights to the characters he created? or can Marvel (not that they would at the moment) create more stories about them without Alan?

They created more stories without him in the atrocious issues #9-12 (Which Davis correctly retconned out as a "dream" in the X-Men cross-over), so I'm guessing Marvel owns the rights to Clan Destine.

On his own message board, Davis said he has finished 5 issues of the upcoming run, and the possibility of future issues depends on how well these 5 issues do in sales.

so can someone give me some info on this series. Like why it was stopped in the first place? Was it popular? A decent seller? How many issues were there. Was there an ending or was everything left hanging?

Definitely get the upcoming hardcover trade, you won't regret it.......The original series was 12 issues, but issues 1-8 are "essential", whereas 9-12 were throwaway crap which shouldn't have been published in the first place. There was also an appearance in Marvel Comics Presents, and there was the 2-issue limited series with the X-Men. All of these (Except for issues 9-12) will be in the upcoming hardcover trade.

The comic was popular with those who actually bought it. The problem was, it had advertisements before the comic came out, but then chaos was going rampant with Marvel editorial and the comic got lost in the shuffle. Not many people even knew about the comic, including some of Marvel's staff.

As for an ending to the series, you weren't necessarily left hanging, as Davis's work was fairly conclusive (It wasn't like the ending of each of the first two LOTR films)........But you were left with knowing there was much more to be told about this family, which is one of the reasons I'm looking forward to the upcoming issues.

EDIT: That's what I get for quipping before the end of a thread. I gather from finishing off the thread that this project will be coming out sometime in 2008. Maybe.
