Hey guys. I recently started my own Spider-Man podcast, The Amazing Spider-Cast. I have two episodes up thus far, with a new one coming out every Friday. So far I've discussed Spider-Man from idea to print, the various Spider titles published today, and an overview of events leading up to Civil War regarding Spidey. I also have a segment where I read from the old Spider-Man letters pages. The microphone I'm using is not very good so the audio's a little low, but I hope to get a better microphone soon. So if you want, give it a listen and tell me what you think. Post any comments, suggestions, or maybe things you'd like to see discussed here.

Listened to episode 1 on the way to work, really enjoyed it it was good. Listened to episode two on the way back, liked it but and its a really little but, felt it went on a bit at the beggining with all the proposed changes from episode 1. It as a really little "but" but i know you said you wanted that feedback both positive and negative.
Like the letters, episode 2 letters especially good. Looking forward to your take on the clone saga (Give ben reily a fair carck of the whip, he's a good guy)
Keep it up i'm all subscribed up and looking forward to friday. My monday morning drive to work is now sorted

Ey dude, you ever thought about getting another person to tag along for a more back and forth discussion or are you going to solo it out throughout?
Not really saying your podcast is worse off for it but it would be interesting to see contrasting points similar to the shows Comic Geek Speak and Fanboy Radio.

I'd like to, but there really aren't any comic fans where I live. I do plan on recruiting some Spider-Fans from the forums for a roundtable via Skype down the road.

You ever thought about making it twice a week instead of once? I don't have an Ipod so I can't take it with me, but I would sit and listen to it if it were a little shorter.
Also, just curiosity sake, is their a way you can do it in some chapter form? That way I could jump to the next topic. Don't know if this would be possible though.

That's pretty much the only way I see it to be possible without anyone local.
StoneGold, me and a few others were going to do it but I couldn't unfortunately.

I would put a poll in, but there are so many topics that can be covered, how could I narrow it down? I'm planning ahead more, so I know what I'm going to cover in the next few months, but like I say each episode, you can always e-mail me with something you'd like to see covered.

Anyone else not enjoy this podcast? I feel like the host doesn't know his Spider-Man comic book history. I mean I've read every issue of Amazing Spider-Man and feel like the host doesn't have a strong opinion or any incite into the comics.
Especially now that it is 616 Spder-Man's most historically significant time in his life. If you're not reading every Spider title currently along with every big Civil War tie-in, Frontline, Captain America, New Avengers, then you can't really be trusted as a Spider-Man podcaster. Not to mention the Ultimate Spider-Man history is great too.
Plus the sound is bad. But most of all, the time spent talking about the technical difficulties. Like if the host is having problems, I don't want 10 minutes explaining that there are technical problems. Skip that and get to the Spidey talk. It makes you less reputable when you cite your own shortcomings.
I don't mean to be negative for the sake of being negative. But negative in the hopes of improvements or maybe someone else will start a Spider-Man podcast.
Chris Johnson
03-08-2007, 12:49 PM
How far have you listened in? The early shows were crap, but the quality really picks up at episode 16. If you haven't, I implore you to listen to episode 16 onward, which features discussion between me and other Spider-Man fans. Much better shows, much louder audio, and no 10 minute rants about techinal problems. And it's still a work in progress, I'm hoping with the next show to have breathing cancelled out.
And I totally have to disagree with reading every Civil War tie-in. I am not going to waste my money on stuff I don't want to read for the sake of the podcast. I read all the core Spider-titles and Civil War and got a clear picture of what's going on with Peter's life. I did pick up the latest Cap issue, and may pick up the new New Avengers, but Frontline? No. To tell you the truth, I hated Civil War and had no feeling whatsoever to pick up every single tie-in out there.

Yet again a fantastic episode, you guys are doing a great job. I love the idea of brining other opinions in it makes the topical discussions really fun to listen to. But can you please talk less about spider-girl? =P sorry she really does not appeal to me what so ever...talk about baby may!
Chris Johnson
03-11-2007, 08:39 AM
Sorry, I like Spider-Girl. But don't worry, I only do one episode for every three issues.
I would love to appear on your show too...but i think you should use Ventrilo instead of Skype, that way you wont get a delay on responses and the quality should improve..plus you can do it right infront of your computer for free! I guess the more times you cover Spider-Girl i might grown to like her

Part 1 of Episode 30 is up, featuring the beginning of Dave and Jen as co-hosts and discussion on the second wave of Back In Black issues.
Another great episode Chris. I really loved the discussion in the first 5 mins (ish) about joe Q, the spider marriage and sins past. you guys really hit the nail on the head and said my thoughts out loud. Joe Q wants the character to be a teenager again not a man...which ticked me off and you guys seem to agree. Im guessing he wants movie fans to pick up the book and see something that reflects it.
To summ up:
- MJ seems to be the only good thing in peters life..."he can't hook up with a model" it's his FINAL reward, he got the girl even after all the pain he's suffered so she's kinda his reward.
-Im not married ive only just turned 20 and i can relate to the marriage in a sense of the feelings flowing around and the interaction, we always see it on tv so why not in a comic book?
Great job, keep up the good work guys!

sins past

totemistic origins

Another great episode, and as to your question for skrulls...
I personaly hate the idea of either MJ or May being a skrull. I mean they haven't been acting strangley at all and if they say now they are skrulls im going to bite my lower lip till it bleeds in frustration. This would mean anyone who has come back recently and has been written in character is suddenly going to change and it wont be the genuine person anymore just cos benids had an idea 10 years later...
