Is there anybody out there who is familiar with the books these gentlement have authored? I have just finished Still Life With Crows, and was wondering what was the first book in which their character of Special Agent Pendergast first appeared.
Pendergast, along with a small group or recurring characters, first appeared in The Relic. If you dig him, I recommend the Diogenes Trilogy: Brimstone (which isn't essential-reading to the "trilogy" story), Dance of Death and their newest novel, Book of the Dead. Pendergast is also the lead character in Cabinet of Curiosities and Reliquary (the sequel to The Relic).
My favorite Preston & Child book is one which (I think; it's been a while since I read it) has none of their recurring characters - Riptide.
I'd avoid The Ice Limit if I were you. Or at least read it last. It isn't very good, and has a very bad ending. Pendergast isn't in that, Mount Dragon or Thunderhead, but those last two are good novels.

I really liked The Ice Limit personally but because of the not very good ending they are talking about a sequel. Which makes sense since the ending could affect the entire freakin planet! And you're right, Riptide is their best book.
Don't judge The Relic by the crap movie they made a few years ago. It's a really great book. I read the sequel first thinking I wouldn't need to know anything since I'd seen the movie, it's The Relic in name only. And they even left out Pendergast... and Smithback as well but that's not much of a loss.

I read the Relic and loved it, but never finished Reliquary and sort of lost track of their stuff after that. I only found out they'd written all these other books after picking most of them up at a local charity store for 50 cents each. Including Reliquary, which I intend to eventually give a second chance. Lots else to read though, with no particular order in mind.

You could pretty much tell the movie was going to be crap as soon as the producers said they were "combining" the Pendergast and D'Agosta characters (probably because he was a weird-looking yet non-racist Southerner). Yeah, let's cut out the most interesting character! That'll be great!

The novels involving Pendergast are pretty good until the last one, unfortunately. But the others are strong, and the stand-alone novels are all worth reading. The Ice Limit is a solid read, but my favourite is probably Riptide.

I love the Pendergast stuff but The Ice Limit is the book I enjoyed most.
BTW they mention the events of The Ice Limit and mention a follow up expedition in The Cabinet Of Curiosities.
