View Full Version : Marvel Universe's Own Green Lantern

Spinning off of the thread about moving a DC character into the Marvel Universe I figured i'd make a twist.
The Marvel Universe gets a Green Lantern Corps, but no characters, just rings, batteries, Oa and a Central Battery and has to start from scratch. Who would make good Green Lanterns in the Marvel Universe? A skrull? Kree? Shi'ar? Maybe somebody on Earth? Keep in mind they have to be able to overcome great fear (and/or fearless) and honest in order to be able to use the ring and have strong will power.
I'll post some of my ideas later

I'd have to say Dr. Spectrum.
Squadron Supreme version? 616 Version? MAX version?
Out of those the only one I'd see making a half decent GL is the Squadron version and thats just because he's Hal Jordan light

The first person that pops into my mind as a perfect GL (but it could only be short time as he would never want to leave his family for too long) is Ben Grimm aka the Thing. Think about it, he's fearless, he's faced down Galactus for g-ds sake. He's got more willpower than almost anyone, look at his fight with the Champion, heck he'd make an awesome GL. Ben would love to be able to fly on his own power as a former jet jockey and i could see alot of ring creations based on things in NY and certainly a certain street lol. Ben Grimm, Green Lantern would make a heck of a mini even if I couldn't see him being a permanent member of the Corps

Assuming you want this to spread out across the universe, I'd pick up Gamora, Rocket Raccoon, Prodigy, someone from the Shi'ar (maybe Deathcry, though Cerese already has Lantern-like abilities), a random Skrull, a random Kree, someone from Pip's race, a Z'nox, someone from Arcturus IV, and maybe even Drax. Yeah, that covers enough.

Heh, Daredevil.
Daredevil is "the man without fear", but he would be blind whenever he put up a standard GL forcefield for protection. His radar sense would stop at the forcefield, and all of his other senses would also be limited to the confines of that forcefield, except for his sense of hearing.
Carol Danvers, aka Ms. Marvel, would be a decent Green Lantern even without her existing powers. She has military discipline, pilot training (good practice for flying with a ring), and courage. However, her problems with alcohol suggest that she might not have strong enough willpower.

The now-powerless Charles Xavier would make an interesting choice. He's a teacher, has tremendous willpower, loves the space-ladies and he knows all about protecting a "world that hates and fears him."

I wonder how a skrull would do as a Lantern. Imagine a Skrull and a Kree teamed up as Lanterns of their sector of space (now that each sector has two lanterns) some crazy stuff. As for Shi'ar space i'd like to see a member of Cho'd race and maybe one of the other enslaved races take over as a Green Lantern, wonder if they'd be friends or foes of the Imperial Guard

So you'd like to see a Saurid? Yeah, I guess that could work. Hell, give Cr+eee a ring. I don't know what other enslaved races there are besides those on the Starjammer, but I suppose if there are other ones, a representative from one would do. And I imagine the Kree/Skrull thing working like the Rannian, Thanagarian thing we have now. Though, the Kree and Skrull members would probably be selected to monitor different sections.

Deathcry. The character might actually have some potential then.
Freedom Ring would have made a good lantern. Shame about what happened to him though.
Cerise has similar powers already. She's likely to make a good lantern.

My picks, just from Earth:
Daredevil
Cyclops
Captain America
Spider-Man
Bishop
Ones who would be bad ideas, but you know it'd be fun to see what'd happen:
The Punisher
Deadpool
Quicksilver

I think the ring would compensate. I'm pretty sure there have been blind lanterns before. Of course other than the "fearless" aspect I don't think he'd make a good lantern. His "physical" abilities wouldn't lend well to the ringslinging.
I think Captain America would be a pretty good one. I'm also a little surprised that nobody has mentioned Quasar yet? I've always considered him the Marvel GL. I could see Nova taking the responsibility for it well too.

not to be insulting but i think quasar becoming a green lantern would be a demotion

I'll take your word for it, most of what I've seen of Quasar made them pretty similar. The only difference I ever saw was that Quasar was in charge of "protecting the Universe" WHere Green Lantern only has to worry about a "part" of the Universe.

Given that Quasar already has a cosmic protection role and already has abilities similar to that of a Lantern, I see no need for him to be granted a ring.

True, but a lot of things could happen. The question was who would be a good a GL? I think Quasar could switch from Bands, to Rings without a hitch ;)

Colossus would make one bad ass strong cool member of the Lantern Corps!
To make it interesting, I would choose Moon Knight :)

They already have one. His name's Richard, and he's the last of his Corps . . . kind of like Kyle.

Everyone forgot the greatest space fairing hero out there. Rocket Raccoon. HE would rock as lantern.

For pure creativity and some insanely complex constructs. The most hated man in the MU....Tony Stark!
willpower maybe not so much (glug glug) but the guy is a freakin engineering genius.
Reed Richards and Doom DOOM
man, that would be some shit, willpower and smarts in spades

Well, technically they had that with the Nova Corps, although that was never fully developed.

You do realize your injecting reality into this dont you?
I mean come on forefields, power rings, radar sense and your arguing that his senses couldnt penetrate the forcefield? I mean how do you know, this is afterall a comic book and you do know comic books arent real right?
Nothing much bothers me but when people start saying stuff like "well if spiderman has strength proportionate to a spider and given his height and weight he wouldnt be able to lift that because it would defy the laws saying he can only lift something 3 and 1/2 times his size and that truck is easily 4 and 1/4 his size".
Just because were not little kids anymore doesnt mean we have to tear apart everything with logic or reason. Cant comic books and video games just be comic books and video games and leave them alone?

I was thinking GL would be a good plot for Guardians of the Galaxy with either Vance or Yondu as GL.
