Biddy Hodson's character wore the hottest outfit I have ever seen on a woman in a movie or in real life in the opening sequence of Hellboy. Too bad she changed into civilian clothes later on.

I don't know... Every time I see such an arian kind of natured woman in this kind of uniform[the nazi one] i get a quick flashback of the photos in the Aushvitz museum of the woman commando who were ruling the women part of the death camp. And the comparison between these blond haired, blue eyed, smiling faces with the ones of hopelessly hungry and dirty prisioners still sends shivers down my neck...
Sorry for spoiling the discussion but I just can't find anything "hot" in the way the actress was stylized. But that's just me...

Although I admire Mike's attempt in the Hellboy comic to give Ilsa a costume befitting her status in Rasputin's organization, and not just make her into a generic hotty (ala the Baroness from GI Joe), I tend to agree with Khan that there really wasn't anything overtly (or most likely intentionally) sexy about Ilsa in the movie. Now I do agree that Bitty (sp) the actress who played Ilsa is very attractive, but her costume in the movie didn't contribute towards that look and feel for me.

Thank you, Khan Doalyn, for bringing a fresh and important perspective to this thread. You haven't spoiled the discussion at all, but rather made us look in another direction. Living in the USA, we sometimes forget the effect that symbols of hatred and biggotry have on people whose lives have been touched by these evils, either personally or because they happen to live in a part of the world where certain atrocities took place.
And just so this doesn't turn into an OT thread, Khan's comments made me think of some of the reports on the new Hellboy 2 script. There's supposed to be a scene where Johann is introduced and HB responds with "I hate Germans." If this ever gets to film, those of us who know Hellboy's history from the comics might well feel that what Hellboy really means is "I hate Nazis". His past, too, is filled with flashbacks of sinister Nazi plots. I bet if HB were shown the shot in question, he wouldn't think it was so hot, either.

I think the use of the nazi-esque uniform serves to make Ilsa clearly a villain, and therefore hateable, even though she looks "hot".

Thanks for warm replies. Just so that no one would think ill of me: I'm not a german hater(you have the best comic shops in this part of europe)! I just don't like the idea of idealising something anyway asoshiated with nazi culture. As Myst said: The fact that many of my grandparents friends and famili members were "taken care of" by this people just makes me look diffrenly at this stuff. I am totally o.k. with making the nazis the bad guys in any media- becouse thats what they are and wear. Astonishingly stupid and/or ignorant and/or evil maniacs, driven by the couse of an sick, twisted guy. I believe in retribution and the fact that many did reform after these dark times of 30 and 40ties in europe.
The thing that bothers me though (and it has nothing to do with the main topis of this thread) is that 99% of kids/people out there after seing nazis in movies, reading about them will come to same conclusions as above. There's allways this 1% of kids who'll say "oh they'r evil! I want to be evil too" and if no one will tell them what exactly they plan to idolize it might turn into something serious. But that's just one of the drawbacks of mass media I guess... Once again sorry for making this an OT thread.

All I'll say on the subject (now that I can see people don't find it "offensive"), is that Ilsa's fine, fine booty was deliciously accentuated by those tight, tight pants she wore at the end.
You know the part where she finds Myer waking up after Liz imploded at the end, and there's that great butt shot where she's stepping over to him? HAWT.

There are multiple valid reactions to art; emotional, visceral, intellectual. I think we can admire Ilsa for being (in GDT's words) a butch Nazi She-Wolf while keeping in mind that Nazis were some of the worst people to walk the Earth.

Yes, but that %1 are horrible to begin with. Not much you can do about that, and I think it sullies art to try to keep those people in mind. After all, worrying about that sort of thing almost got comics banned as a medium a while back.

We was only talking about what the "actress" was wearing on the movie. I like her pants but I don't like nazi fashion style...

While I understand the real life horrible truths to anyone associated with the Nazi party, I think the female Nazi character has been taken out of context and elevated to a sex symbol.
It's a "bad girl" thing. Ilsa is a dycotomy of power: she is dominant over those weaker than her, but is subersviant to Rasputin. I think the traits of the role are what people find "sexy"
She isn't the first or last in the category either:
Gretta from Rex Steele: Nazi Smasher:

The Baroness from GI Joe (not a nazi, but a evil group bent on world domination)

If we were to deconstruct and analyze in a PC manner everything that's depicted in graphic novels and comics (as well as movies and art)..not much would be left.
