and they were still replace by the second generation of their legacies?

superheroes/heroines that died/retired/depowered/etc:
Steve Rogers
Tony Stark
Peter Parker
T'Challa
Thor aka Don Blake aka Thor Odinson
Brian Braddock
Jessica Drew

And in this era we would still have the replacements as the
new mainstay superheroes/heroines of the old heroes' titles?
And what if Marvel never, ever bring back the older heroes
their former roles again?

new generational superheroes/heroines that would still be active
in their heroic roles:
John Walker(Captain America)
Jim Rhodes(War Machine)
Ben Reilly(Spider-Man)
Kasper Kole(Black Panther)
Eric Masterson(The Mighty Thor)
Kelsey Leigh(Captain Britain)
Mattie Franklin(Spider-Woman)

So then, what happens? Also, what other generational heroes that you
think Marvel will keep around? I would they would have the current Marvel
Boy(Nor Varr) as Captain Marvel when he grows up. That would be so cool.

Sooo... This is a what if for Civil War, right? Is your what if taking place in the continuity that has occurred so far? Because I'm really curious how you could expect Ben Reilly to take over as Spidey since he's, y'know, dead and all. If you're just saying that it would be cool if Ben Reilly was still around and he took over being Spidey after Peter died or quit or lost his powers, then yeah that would be kinda cool I guess. But hey, it would be kinda cool just to have Ben Reilly back at all.

interesting proposal. However, you have to have more information than that. They can't just all of a sudden die or lose their powers. We need something that would take them all out. Then these other people, if any of them could fullfill the job, could be replacements.

Y'know, this reminds me of something a friend told me. He thinks that the perfect end to Civil War would be this:

All the pro-regs and anti-regs get in one place out in the middle of no where fighting an all out war. All of a sudden, a nuke falls from the sky and kills everyone (Yes, a nuke could kill most of the superheroes. It would have killed Superman in The Dark Knight Returns if he hadn't been able to draw energy from nature). Only 3 or 4 superheroes survive the whole thing. And Marvel would restart their entire lineup from these superheroes. They would find out who did it and exact their revenge. I suggested they call these surviving heroes the Revengers. :D

This'll never happen, I know, but it would be really cool.

the Young Avengers, living New Warriors, Runaways, and New X-men are the next generation.

A new generation who will never ever take over for the old one.

It'll be wierd seeing the Young Avengers upgrade to Adult Avengers in the next 10-20 years.

I'll call it Genext and have Chris Claremont write it.

If that ever even theoretically happened the MU would be in biiiiiig trouble. There's a reason none of these backups ever usurped the role that the heroes at the top originated. They were for the most part poor imitators who didn't have what it took. Johnny Walker was the Ryan Leaf of super heroes.

The young avengers won't surplant the old avengers, at least not in terms of actual characters. The originals will always be around, for the most part, and will never end up being a bunch of old men and women, even in 30 years time.

Well, that dosen't seem fair to YA(and for their fans for that matter).

And to let you(Shelf) and everybody know that this sort of thing would take place
in the past before the Civil War event(in marvel time).

Someone's never read DC's Kingdom Come.

I guess I could see those characters as semi-suitable replacements for the characters, but their overall unpopularity causes Marvel to ween back into bankruptcy. (Isn't that kinda what happened, besides the collector's market bust?)

I agree with you Deadpooligan, but I think another reason Marvel went into bankruptcy was they overextended themselves. They made anything and everything that was even remotely popular a title. They didn't realize that some popular characters just can't carry their own series and are better suited to recurring limited series.

I'd have no problem with it at all but what I'd prefer to see is all of the original heroes dead/gone/retired and nobody taking over for them. Retire them for good. Try something ORIGINAL!

Get rid of Spider-Man, the X-Men, Fantastic Four, Avengers, Daredevil, any character that was created before, oh, 1970 or so. Let them go and get on with the future, not just replaying the past over and over and over again.

Of course, that'll never happen, Marvel has too much invested in old characters.
