I have a few questions about Proteus. Is he unbeatable? Or can he be beaten? I know he is made of pure psiconic energy, so is he like Onslaught?

This should have been put in the 'Questions' thread on the forums. But no, Proteus is not unbeatable. He's weak to metal and was killed by Colossus in his original 616 appearance many moons ago.

But he lost his resistance to metal though, right?
Proteus has two weaknesses:
metal
his constant need for host bodies
Kevin MacTaggert, as Proteus, is an energy creature; he burned out his original body not long after Magneto's battle with the X-Men in Uncanny X-Men #104. Proteus is vulnerable in his true form as shown when Colossus, who is organic metal, grabs Proteus & disrupts his energy matrix, killing him.
Just read Uncanny X-Men #125-128.

He's dead, so no he didn't. Unless you mean HoM/Exiles Proteus/Morph. Then no as well.

No, considering Earth 616 Proteus is still dead.

Well, yes and no. The woogied version of HoM-616 Proteus is still alive.

Alive, but, in a way, comatose.

The Earth-616 Proteus was revived by Piecemeal, and departed for space, eventually passing through a dimensional rift, as noted in his Handbook entry this month. Which means with the HoM Proteus also still active (albeit rendered harmless for now), we potentially have two of them from 616 (well, 616 and modified 616) kicking around the multiverse.

Well, that wasn't really Proteus. That was Piecemeal-Proteus. Much like how Bastion isn't really Nimrod. Sure, part of him is in there, but it's not the same. And how do we know he wasn't ripped apart after entering whatever dimension?

Proteus always retains bits of his former hosts after finishing with them - look at how the Exiles' one retained some of Calvin's feelings for Blink even after abandoning Calvin's corpse. Piecemeal gathered Proteus' energies back together, and for a while they seemed to share the form, but by the next appearance there's no sign of Piecemeal, so I guess he became lunch, or at least was so fully absorbed there really wasn't a difference.
And how do we know he wasn't ripped apart after entering whatever dimension?
Because the X-Men encountered him there after they later passed through the same rift in space.
