The death of Hellboy that Mignola mentioned in his Toronto panel.

Huh? I'm lost as to what you mean here Otto. This page doesn't seem to have anything to do with the death of Hellboy that I know of. :o

It's been on ebay for i don't know... since SDCC? It was priced very high-> something around 1500 so I guess the seller was left in no intrest from buyers so he was forced to lower the price... Nice piece though!
I asked this question allready but I never got an answer: was this page or was it not collored for the Strange Places TPB? I would love to see the first time we see hellboy both under and above water in collors! I wonder how Dave Stewart would/has interpreted that in color...

Yeah, he's both in and out of water. I would scan it, but my scanner isn't installed right now, sorry. Bright red out of water, dark purplish gray underneath.

Right as always, pal. This is an unused page from "The Island" which
would have been where Hellboy comes out of the sea after "The Third Wish".
The story "The Island", however, can be read as Hellboy's death.

Khan? This page is coloured in the TPB.

that ironwolf is a beauty but the seller is located in england. so for those that haven't dealt with overseas shipping of original art.... be warned. it can be ugly. and expensive!

i had a package from england take four months to get to me. i didn't know for months and months if it was lost forever or what. basically i had chewed my fingernails all the way up the to the elbows by the time it arrived...

i had another package from france where i could see daylight thru the package in four places. in fact, it was shedding black pieces of burnt paper and rubber when the postman sheepishly handed it to me... the only good news was that it contained copies and not originals of hellboy art. otherwise, four pages would have been lost forever.

after that, i decided that i couldn't buy overseas unless it was a grail piece and i was willing to take some serious risks.

anyway, i just wanted to give a heads up to people that are thinking about starting to collect original art....

These things must directly bought by the seller. If these things are found over ocean it is better to avoid. Also I have received some forgeries and it isn't a beautiful sensation to be rubbed:mad:

I have done officially one ebay overseas transaction, courtesy of Fitz from this forum and it went smooth as silk. I lucked out as the Fitz-man is a monster talent and kat-a-licious. Dig out Fitzman...

Whilst I can completely understand what you are saying (I've had disasters too in the past) I can reassure you all that this spage of Ironwolf will be well packaged!

I know the selle, in fact both he and I purchased pages at the same time! He is an artist well used to sending art to the USA... oh heck, he's Sean Phillips if you were wondering! Think he's only parting with that lovely page out of necessity.

Hope that helps ease minds!

Now I better stop surfing and draw some.... well, that would be telling wouldn't it?

BOOM!

hey duncan,
i apologize if it seemed like i was bad-mouthing your friend's auction. every seller is different and i have successfully received packages from outside the united states.

but almost every single out-of-country art purchase i have made has been a problem in one way or another. i have done this five times and only once did it work smoothly and three times it was bad and one of those three it was an absolute disaster.

conversely, i have purchased over 100 pieces inside the united states and only once was the package lost (two nice swamp thing pages) and only twice was the package unreasonably delayed (more than a month).

frankly, i would only buy art from outside the united states if...

1. the art is sealed inside a plastic bag to prevent water damage
2. the art is protected by two sheets of masonite (a hard board material that is pretty bullet proof) or 6 layers of cardboard
3. i can insure it for the full value
4. the seller accepts paypal or some other kind of third party payment to insure delivery of the art
5. the seller can provide a tracking number
6. lastly, that i love the art so much that i can't live without it

this all sounds extreme but i think it is necessary.

sorry,
michael

p.s. if you sell art to people outside the country, you should do all these things in reverse. and you should make sure that the funds clear before sending the art. there are some bad people out there... and even if the seller doesn't want the insurance, pay for it anyway!!!

Hey Michael,

No apology necessary, I can completely understand your concerns, all valid. I was merely vouching for the seller!

Cheers,
D
