(I have finally gotten ahold of BKV's _first_ brainchild (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Y:_The_Last_Man), and I reccomend it to all who have not)
17 July, 2002.
For some unknown reason, every male mammal hemmorages massively and keels over dead... save two.
What do you consider likely to happen, both worldwide and in your neck of the woods?
What would you have done if you (somehow) proved the lucky(?) soul?
Assuming of course that you are a guy, although womenfolk here are free to give thier reactions as well
Discuss.

Women around the world rejoice at now having exactly what they wanted all along.
If I'm still alive, well all the women will most likely behave as they do now. Which is to say they either tell me all their problems and then ignore my advice, or just avoid me like the plague.
Yeah I have no last man on Earth fantasies.

a. The female population scrambles to improve in vitro fertilization and cloning technology to stave off extinction of the species while the two men left are used as sperm banks, possibly against their will.
b. I'd be miserable. There's only so much sex a man could (presumably) take. I want time to do other crap too.
And when I saw the thread title I thought you meant "Last Man" in the Nietzschean sense.

Well, society should quickly collapse in very interesting ways, because of the asymmetric gender distribution in many occupations. For example, there would be very few doctors or engineers, especially in the developing world.
On the other hand, crime would rapidly decline as want was eliminated and the "super offenders", all young males, left the population. Global peace would immediately become feasible, as most of the leadership structures in major world religions and dictatorships disappeared.
The population would undergo a serious decline, assuming that in vitro stores are depleted, it would take 15 years to get enough sperm producers back into the population, and it takes time to figure out what the virus or agent is that killed all the men (and whether it would just kill the men fertalized to re-populate).
I also bet that in that first new generation, about 70% would be male before genetic tampering to select sexes, as species have been shown to produce different sexual outputs depending on environmental conditions.

Well thats only due to the fact that women...as you said earlier...dont generally occupy these roles...if they were to do so is there any proof there wouldnt be war?

Well, there are a couple of things suggesting war would be much less frequent:
1. The immediate disapearence of 47% of the population would be the sort of crisis that unifies people.
2. The immediate disappearence of half the demand for land, oil, food while keeping the supply more or less the same.
3. Violence and aggression being supposedly genetically linked to masculinity.
4. Totalitarian, authoritarian, and hierarchical structures tend to be heavily masculine in character and personnel.
5. The immediate disappearence of 95-99% of the capacity to make war with the loss of military personnel would create some powerful inertia.

Save 2?
They would immediately fight to the death for the right to be considered the alpha male (lol)
After a tidal wave of grief for our sons, lovers and fathers (probably in that order) had swept the planet, life would pretty much go on as normal with a few minor differences:
chocolate and vibrators would be available on prescription
toilets would be a lot less smelly
freed from the imperative to attract a mate women would stop shaving, worrying about their weight and accept their boobs as being the way they are.
After a bit women scientists would figure out a way to kick start the human race - including the xy contingency - again (there are some of us who are unredeemably heterosexual whatever the circumstances)

I'd expect a lot of suicides. Hell, I'd be severely depressed and suicidal as well. I'd lose my eight year old nephew. :( And my brother, my dad, my uncle, my cousins, and the rest of my male family members? Plus the depressing factor of three billion human beings suddenly dying. All those little children...
I really doubt I'd be able to pull myself out of that funk.

Just outta curiosity, have any of you folks read much of the series? Most of the ideas I've seen mentioned here have come up in the comics.

I'd like to get all fanboy and point out that BKV's first brainchild was his Swamp Thing series as it focused on a grown Tefe that he created himself.
Please ingore my nerdiness and continue ...
