View Full Version : X-Factor: Quicksilver Should Repower Beak!!
Beast

This just popped into my brain the other day, and I was reminded of it due to a discussion in X-Cres. It would be great if Quicksilver repowered Beak. Since Pietro's powers seem to cause most mutations to flare out of control, Beak's mutation could be boosed beyond the chicken-guy stage that we're familiar with. It could evolve his mutation into something similar to the badass Beak II's from Here Comes Tommorow.
http://img32.photobucket.com/albums/v97/MasterSplinter/New_Beak.jpg
Beak was one of the truly great aspects of Grant Morrison's New X-Men, and this would be an interesting and badass way to bring him back. Of course that doesn't solve the problem for Marvel regarding Angel and the Beak Babies. As depowering all of them was the compromise that was reached instead of killing Angel and the Beak Babies and leaving Barnell powered. What do you guys, especially Peter David, think? :)

I wholeheartedly agree with you. Of course, I assume by "lame" you mean "wicked cool and totally bad-ass". The X-Books are a slightly sadder place without Beak.

No, I entirely agree, Beast.
But I think if it wasn't for Silvestri that (Tito?) would look a little silly and artists would do whatever they wanted with him like they did with Beak during Morrison's run. He looked different with every new writer. Just like Cat Beast. As opposed to both Cat Beast and Beak looking brilliant under Silvestri's awesome pencils.
Also, that shot is wicked cool. I love the bat. And Cassandra Nova looks hot.
But it WOULD be cool to see HAWK Beak rather than CHICKEN Beak.
If they did it right I really wouldn't mind. But maybe we should leave Angel and Barnell alone for a little while, or at least track them in a non-mutant-diaries way.

Agreed, Affinity.
I have no clue how so many artists can draw characters so many different ways. You would think they'd at least try to keep some consistancy between the various artists. In fact Quietly's Beak is pretty much the worst version, given that he was just a skull-headed kid with visable teeth.
Which is another reason why I hate Cat Beast. Old Ape Beast it seemed everyone drew pretty similar. Even Liefeld's Ape Beast looked like Beast. But with the Cat version it's all over the map and noone can remeber how many fingers he has, or how his legs are, or even how his head is shaped.
But I digress, as this is meant to be about Barnell Bohusk. :D

Scott & Jean NEVER!!
Beak & Angel FOREVER!!
Seriously, though. Beak should never have been depowered. Now I fear we'll never see him live out his destiny as the future leader of the Avengers.

yeah, because a character who was inexplicably dragged into Exiles for his ability to "make friends" - when the other members hadn't really shown any deficiency in that area - would clearly be worthy of having his powers restored to a better place, as opposed to having them flare out of control.
more likely, he'd be growing feathers out of his butt and his brain would shrink proportionally like a real bird.
why do you hate Beak?

Well, he was actually dragged into Exiles because the 'Timebreakers' computed that he was the most likely individual to stop Hyperion. He wouldn't raise any flags with Hyperion who was overseeing the bugs, as he wasn't a percieved threat. It wasn't because he was able to make friends, it was because Hyperion didn't consider him a real threat due to his lack of any real powers. Which is indeed why he was able to save the day, since Hyperion was too wrapped up in trying to kill the Exiles while Beak thought of recruiting alternate Hyperions. ;)

I hope so. It would be lame if they just end up saying he died in the bus explosion or something. Just keep him away from Kyle/Yost. I'm really annoyed how Marvel wanted to keep him powered, but it meant killing Angel and deleting the Beak-Babies from existance. Lame. :p

I somewhat agree with you and also somewhat with the thread starter. I like both, so I am torn to which I prefer.
Or we could do a Rachel Summers and bring Tito from HCT to the present for one reason or the other.

I am not entirely sure if my memory is accurate, but is it not true that the Beak/Angel offspring do have natural accelerated aging due to Angel's genetics? I seem to recall that being the case.

Yeah, it was sort of a no-prize of explaining how they were already toddlers in Exiles when they were just babies in New X-Men. It also fits as Angel's pregnancy cycle was a manner of days instead of months.

Best part of Morrison's New X-Men. It also makes me appreciate Grant a bit, because according to GM he was supposed to die shortly after Imperial. But the character wouldn't let Grant kill him, he kept making GM write more whacky stuff for Beak to be a part of. Til eventually he became a leading member of the cast.

I agree, they should leave Barnell and Angel to raise their children.
BUT, I will say I @#$%ing loved Tito Jr. in HCT, so I say age Tito Sr. quickly (since he's still powered he would have the accelerated aging still, whereas his siblings wouldn't), put him in New X-men and use Barnell, Angel and the other kids as supporting characters in New X-Men.
I might also suggest retconning out the fly wings he was depicted w/ so that they could use the "Eagle" version of the character, it's not 100% necessary, but it would be cool since Tito Jr. was friggin awesome and I'd like to see some semblence of him again. If not, they could simply leave him w/ the fly wings, give him a more eagle looking head and body so that it wouldn't be to farfetched for him to have Tito Jr. that would end up primarily a human/eagle hybrid.

His head was never feline, up until Morrison. While he lacks the pronounced nostrils of an ape, the dental structure was even apelike. Really the only thing that didn't fit the apelike design was the gull-wing hairdo, but then he was humanoid-ape and not just a super-evolved simian.

Agreed. My big problem with X-books in general is that stories never really seem to have an ending. You can argue it's because it's an ongoing series, but at least the minor characters should be able to find peace and retire quietly without having to die or something. I'm sick of never trusting a "the end...for now! Mwahahahahaha!" ending from Marvel. Let him alone.
For the record, I think his family was one of the most endearing this about him. And I thought he was cool in his lameness (I've got a habit of that)...his power was mostly just unfortunate.

I don't know, I never really saw the Ultimate X-Men one as overly funny. He was moody and mopey, for the most part. But I did love his relationship with Storm. They were a great couple.
