I read this book. It's AMAZING! So awesome! It's the re-telling of the Hulk Origin by Paul Jenkins. And the whole book is painted! YES the art was great! And the writing was soo good. I've read his origin by Stan Lee, and this was equally good. Great book and I'd say it is a MUST buy for Hulk fans.

Any thoughts on this book?

I only saw the painted art which is one of the factors why I didnt buy. I didn't like it at all. The other is this retelling of the Hulk origin thing has been done in many other minis.

I just bought it for the art but I'm going to read it soon to see how Paul modernizes it since his X-Men Mythos book was good.

It downplays Rick Jones' role a lot (and makes him an intern working at the base rather than having him somehow sneak in). He doesn't appear after Bruce saves him. Igor being a spy is elimated (or just not mentioned/relavent), the countdown continues due to computer error rather than Igor trying to kill Banner. Hulk is green in his first appearance. He smashes up the place because Ross was going to take him off the project (and away from Betty) now that they have all his research they don't need him anymore.

The art didn't grab me but I could get used to it (like all painted comics) if the story is good. So it's good? I'll probably pick it up so. I like Hulk but Jenkins is a kind of an on and off writer for me.

Yeah that's why I didn't bother with it either... I also don't like the tweaking. Why bother? What does adding Rick as an intern add to the story? Is this cannon now or is it still the original version?

The whole point of the Mythos series is to sort of combine all the different origins from all the different media properties into one origin story. They aren't canon (then again, neither was Birthright, originally), they're basically just the origins with more mainstream elements added into them, and with certain 1960s-specific aspects removed. Basically, they'll make a really, really nice oversized hardcover trade some day, but other than that, just enjoy them for what they are.

That said, how much of a better first half of a Hulk movie would this have made as opposed to the real thing?

I know it's been a while, but I just read this, and I feel like I became a Hulk fan for the first time. It was truly breathtaking (http://comicglutton.blogspot.com/2006/11/praiseworthy-comics-jenkins-and.html). If anyone hasn't read it but can still find a copy, BUY IT! Truly magnificent.

yeah I loved this too.

Were there more Mythos books that I missed? More on the way?

Just X-Men and Hulk so far. Ghost Rider next.
