I haven't read any Runaways comics but I think I might if someone could answer this. I looked around on wikipedia and I think I can para-phrase this:
The Runaways' parents were members of an alien race known as the Pride. There were 12 of them and they were promised that 6 of them could/would be given powers in return for some labor. One of the couple's got pregnant and so the other 5 decided they would each have a child to, so that instead of 6 of them having the powers, all 6 of the kids would.
I know I'm probably way off. Can someone help me out with this?

Yeah you're kinda off. The runaways' HUMAN parents were 6 couples of different yet equally morally-questionable backgrounds.
2 were wannabe sorcerers. 2 others were wannabe evil scientists. 2 others were struggling time-travelling robbers. 2 were small-time thieves. 2 were (incestuous) telepathy mutants. and 2 were exiled aliens living as soap actors (no joke).
They were basically all failures until they were summoned by these giants named the gibborim who were old as time and wanted to purify the world by....destroying everything. They promised the six couples wealth and power beyond their wildest dream if they became their servants. the Pride was born.
Knowing that they were asking them to basically kill all life, 6 of the 12 - those who had been most faithful- were promised a spot in paradise after the world was cleansed along with the Gibborim. As the couples grew they decided to have children. Instead of competing amongst themselves for the seats and condeming their own offspring to death within a few decades, the entire pride decided to each have one child and to give up their spot in heaven to the child in question....these children are the Runaways.
Bunch of ungrateful bastards if you ask me. Great title though. It's less retarded on paper.

I strongly recommend that you pick this up.
You can find each of the first six arc (six issues each, of volumes 1 & 2) collected in a backpack edition for about $7.99 each. Available at your LCBS, but also on ebay, and sometimes at a savings. There is also a hardbound 18 issue collection of the first volume, complete to the end of the arc you are talking about above.

Runaways is one of the BEST comics out there at the moment. And People need to be exposed to it!
The CW mini is giving more exposure, so us fans are happy.
I think the thing I like best about Runaways is the gang arn't super-hero's and don't run around in spandex. Don't get me wrong, I do like that, lol. New X-Men and Astonishing X-Men are some of fave comics too. But what I'm trying to say is that Runaways is a nice break from all the normal super-hero stuff out there.
(And Spider-Man Loves Mary Jane is just a nice break from everything else Marvel has to offer at the moment. It's true to high shcool life, and just fun).

I feel the need to quote a certain video game for this one:
Were your parents related, like, before they were married?

It's never been stated directly, but some readers have interpreted them to be an incestuous pair due to their suspiciously identical mutant powers (telepathy, with glowing purple eyes as their power signature) and an offhand comment about their "pureblood" marriage. It makes sense given that they were the "outcasts" of The Pride (of course this could just refer to them being mutants, but BKV often goes for the less obvious) and were worried about conceiving Molly.

I didn't think I should open a new thread so I thought I should revive this one. :D What's the main difference between the first & second volumes of Runaways? Are both in-continuity? Do I have to read the first to understand the second? Thanks in advance!

Volume Two . . . takes place after Volume One. Shocking, I know.
Seriously, though. They're both in-continuity. The only difference between the two is the progression of the plot. You can start with the second one and follow along just fine, but reading them in order is probably the absolute best way to go.

I should slap myself for still not having the hardcover (even though I have all the individual issues).

Oh, OK. I think I got confused if they were in-continutiy or not b/c it was under Tsunami and then Marvel Age I think.

Be warned though if you decide to get into this series... BKV likes to kill people... And as his current arc says: "Dead means dead."

I haven't read any of volume 2 yet. But I loved Volume 1. And I'm refering to runs, not TPBs. But I'd definatly recommend it.

Where's it going after BKV leaves? With Joss Whedon writing all the way up the chart!
