It talks about "2,000 clips, including parodies, related to Haruhi being on YouTube". Holy crap, that's a lot of clips...
The YouTube issue is interesting in its own right. How does one differentiate between clips shared on YouTube and fansubs distributed through P2P, for instance, from a legal perspective?

I believe that they arn't thats why the japanese companies are up in arms about it from the looks of that article.
Although I wonder if they frown upon DVR in that same respect.

Basically YouTube will yank a clip if they get a complaint. There is an interesting question regarding what in the U.S. is know as "fair usage" which means in publishing terms the ability to quote a short passage or show a single image from a collection of images without first getting the permission of the copyright holder; one is also allowed to parody something once without running afoul of copyright infringement.
The argument being made with a lot of movie, music video, and anime clips on YouTube is that they are being used in the above context; i.e., a blogger writing about a film will post a link to a YouTube clip from that movie, or a funsubber will do a music video using clips from anime shows and and claim it's a parody.
It's a gray area that will get a lot grayer before it's all hashed out...

Well...it's made me sufficiently curious to check out the first 14 episodes...

Well...it's made me sufficiently curious to check out the first 14 episodes...Well, those 14 episodes comprise season 1; We can hope more seasons get made though :)
Episode 1 may be funny or boring, depending on your tastes. I found ep 2 onward more interesting.
Also, do watch the next-episode blurbs, or you might get lost ;)

Eh? Normally I skip those, but all righty...
This is also why I was very late to find out that there are little, original "extras" after every Bleach blurb...

The 14 episodes aren't in chronological order; that's why you have to watch the episode blurbs in order to piece the episodes together after you've seen all 14.

Anime Insider's article on Haruhi's popularity. Has a better premise description.
