Well the blood curse is still in effect, but Dane hasn't used the Ebony Blade in over 10 years. He's been using enchanted weaponry and armor since finding out he's this universe's Pendragon.

I think he was referring to Sir Percy, the very first Black Knight, who merged with the blade in the Doc Strange/Black Knight LS in order to defeat the curse that had turned Dane into a living extension of the blade.

I would assume that Percy is still inhabiting it, but it's kind of strange since, obviously, the blood curse still works (it affected Dane's squire, Dolan, turning him into the Bloodwraith, and it was still in effect far in the future when one of Dane's descendants traveled back in time to kill Dane to try and prevent it from taking effect- this was an issue of Solo Avengers, IIRC.)

Dane was using the Sword of Might and Shield of Light in the Heroes for Hire series (given him by the Lady in the Lake of Avalon), but I've heard that he is currently using the Ebony Blade again in the current Excalibur run, so who knows.

The blade was also evidently given to Crystal of the Inhumans by Dane at one point (during their stint in the Avengers together?) and she was keeping it embedded in a stone underneath Attilan for some reason (this was in a couple of issues of Quicksilver), though I believe it was supposed to be in the Bloodwraith's keeping at the time.

Definitely some unexplained weirdness going on with the ebony blade.

It looks like Dane retrieved it in an unseen story, because he's definitely got it back in Excalibur.

Yeah, I was glad to see Dane with the sword in the pages of Excalibur! We haven't seen him in action for FAR too long. He was one of my favorite Avengers!

Bloodwraith got it back by the end of the issue. There were actually *two* Ebony Blades at that point--Dane's original one that Bloodwraith had, and the one which belonged to Proctor (an evil Dane Whitman from an alternate reality). Bloodwraith had one, Crystal had the other.

Presumably, Bloodwraith still has his, and the one that Dane had in the New Excalibur issue is the one that was left in Crystal's keeping.

The one Dane has is definitely the same one his ancestor Sir Percy used, making it the original.

So he's using the ebony blade again? What happened to the Sword of Light and Shield of Night? They were given to him for the express purpose of defending Avalon by the Lady herself (and, from what I understand, the Excalibur arc going on right now is about Avalon). Anything mentioned about them?

(Not a big deal, I suppose, as I always found those artifacts kind of hokey, myself, but curious.)
