Anybody watch this? I caught parts of it and thought it was ok. I liked the Pamela Anderson roast better.

Gotta say I'm surprised Shatner would agree to to do this. I always heard he had a huge ego. He seemed to take all the fat, old and bad actor jokes well. Although, I noticed no one mentioned the toupe.

Also, how slow am I. If it weren't for this show, I wouldn't have known George Takei is gay.

Parts of the the roast was so dull.Still haven't watched the last 20 min. I figure it will be better than what I saw so far.

I don't know , Maybe I'm getting old, but the last few roast's have been nothing but Penis jokes. I remember the Dean Martin roasts, take the one for Johnny carson for example, and they where more witty then just foul mouthed.

Don't get me wrong, I was a Marine far to long to worry about language, but It just didn't strike me as funny. It seemed that Betty white was marginaly funnier then the others.

I thought it was really dissapointing. Too many people went for the easy jokes like impersonations or toupee jokes.

And I thought there were way too many George Takei jokes. And only one or two of them were funny.

Is it just me, or do all these roasts turn into "andy dick gay joke" contests?

On another note, I was somewhat surprised by all the racial jokes, not offended, but surprised.

StephenDifferent era. It's also due to the fact they keep using the same comedians. And why do they keep bringing Andy Dick to these things? He's not funny and he's a huge attention whore. Getting up and constantly licking people. Speaking of attention whores, I would love to see Courtney Love at more of these things.

On another note, I was somewhat surprised by all the racial jokes, not offended, but surprised. The racial jokes used to shock me, but I got over it because nothing is off limits at these things. Race, religion, age, sexual orientation, child molestation and personal tragedies are all fair game.

The best jokes weren't the "gay" and "fat" "talentless" and "old" jokes. They were the ones that showed some wit, originality, and understanding of the man and his persona.

And how can you make fun of Shatner's singing? It's simply beyond being able to be mocked.

I liked the Roast, I was surprised how funny Betty White and George Takai were. I was dissapointed by Lisa Lampanelli, usually she is really convincing when she is insulting somebody but at this Roast it didnt seem like she was trying. Andy Dick is creepy, they need to stop inviting him to these things.

Does anybody else miss the Friars Club Roasts? I remember watching the Drew Carey and the Chevy Chase Roasts and I laughed so hard at both of them. One reason that made them so great was that they didnt have the same Roasters every time and they were alot longer.

I miss them.

The Comedy Central roasts - especially Shatner's - have been much smaller in size. I mean, they had like 50 or 60 people on the dais at the Carey and Chase (forgot all about Chase's) roasts. So that made them seeme like a bigger deal.

I'd love to see those earlier ones on DVD.

Taped the Shatner roast last night; didn't know Nimoy actually took part (in a pre-taped skit) - very damn funny.

Yeah Comedy Central said that they stopped airing the Friars Club Roasts because the Chevy Chase one was too dirty. I didnt think it was all that bad, when does Comedy Central consider dirty to be too dirty? Hell Pam Anderson wore a shirt where you could see her boobs(im not complaining, Pam is hot).

I liked it but you could tell they edited alot of stuff. Kevin Pollack was barely shown and he's pretty damn funny. Still I thought Shatner was pretty funny and a good sport.

I turned when Betty White came on, because I'd thought she'd bomb. Good to hear that wasn't the case.

Shatner was a good sport. Artie Lang on the Howard Stern Show said that William Shatner didnt want anyone to make jokes about his hair, which Jeffery Ross did and Shatner didnt seem to mind all that much.

I enjoyed it for the most part. Betty White was surprisingly good, and Shatner firing back at everyone was one of the better parts.

...Andy Dick is creepy, they need to stop inviting him to these things...

Couldn't agree more. I'll never understand why he's get paid to show up, anywhere. And going along with the Andy Dick gay joke contest, he seems to be the only one who doesn't take the jokes in stride that well.

I thought the only thing off limits was mentioning his wife drowning?

Wasn’t bad but wasn’t great. Andy Dick is what really bothered me about the whole thing. Everyone seemed to toss a few gay jokes at him and he seemed to take it personally instead of as a joke. On top of that, when he started licking people I was more disturbing than anything. He has yet to make me laugh at these roasts.

That's true. Artie said the only thing that was off limits was the drowning but that decree came from the guy who put the roast together not Shatner.

I liked the Pam Anderson roast better. Overall the material from that roast was stronger. The reason some comics were edited down so much is because they basically bombed.

The funniest parts of the whole thing were the old clips of Shatner singing. It would have been a helluva lot funnier to just go with Patton Oswalt or someone hosting a show of clips like that.

The roast itself looked like it was aimed towards Howard Stern fans. Which we're not. We found the whole thing to be mostly a depressing exercise in reminding us of better comedy-roast shows that aren't on any more.
