What if Canary doesn't leave Birds? Didn't Rucka want Huntress in his Checkmate series?

Just a random, dumb thought.

That would be an acceptable loss.

I don't mind if The Huntress leaves Birds of Prey as long as she is replaced by Lady Shiva permanently. If L.S. doesn't join permanently then Helena better be part of the team. Now that I am finally enjoying this book after the getting the back issues and liking the chemistry I hope they keep the team intact.

I think Birds could live. If the girls are like a family, Helena was always more like the younger sibling, but never quite one of the twins. Plus, I read and enjoyed the book before Gail added her, so I'm sure with good writing I could again.

I think everyone is in a huffy about Dinah leaving the BOP for the JLA. But seeing November's solicits, it sure seems like they want the E-2 Huntress back. So maybe Dan in another of his brilliant invisible wall, continuity wave ideas is going to delete the Huntress we all know and love and replace her by Paul Levitz's creation.

And let's also not forget that Selina does have a daughter named Helena already.....what a way to de-age the character....

It's not Gail we are worried about, it's Didio and Meltzer.

If it turns out Canary is getting booted from BoP into JLA, I'd like to have been a fly on the wall when Meltzler and Didio first told Gail about it. Frankly, if neither of them exited the room in a sling, I'd be dissappointed.

I seem to remember hearing that Huntress was planned to be in BOP AND Checkmate. Similarly, I don't see why joining the JLA means Dinah must leave BOP.

I don't see both of them suddenly having two books. It seems more likely that one of them would leave.

Why can't Dinah be in both JLA and BoP? I mean, lookit Wolverine. He appears in more places than Paris Hiltons vagina.

I don't see why it'd cause a problem. Cable isn't the biggest name any more, he's in two books.

We're in the days of looser continuity, a time where a character can appear in two books and we'll accept it and not whine because someone is in Asia in one book and the US in another. If it isn't going to hurt sales of BOP, what problems can it cause?

What I meant was,

-huntress might leave
-huntress might stay
-canary might leave
-canary might stay

The odds of all of those happening at once are smaller then the odds of a few of them happening seperately.

Maybe I'm wrong, maybe BOP has made the two of them so popular that they can both easily pick up an extra book. I don't know.

LOL! I quoted your statement above Bree to a friend of mine, and he said: "what's really funny is that the only reason she hasn't fucked him is cause he isn't real"

God, I hope not.

I like my Huntress to be Helena Bertilini (sp?), please.

Huntress would fit in with Checkmate but I'd like her to stay under Gail's pen instead of Rucka's.

Has Rucka ever written her before? If so how did he handle her?

Yeah, when Batman shows up in your book you know you've hit the bottom 100 of the Diamond list and the axe is about to fall...

Canary is in a superior position to Huntress if one of them leaves. She's always been more popular then Helena & BOP always was *her* title years before Huntress came aboard.

But I'd hate Huntress to leave. Canary will be in two titles (3 if you include JSA) while Huntress only a regular in BOP. :(

Huntress needs an ongoing *bad*. If Gail wasn't busy writing twenty million books I'd wnat her to do it.

How come fandom never liked Huntress, anyway? I always thought she was interesting.

Not read it, but yes. He did Batman/Huntress: A Cry for Blood.

I've wondered about that myself. Apparently, her writing had been all over the place - some writers have portrayed her as either a slut or a psycho bitch.

Then you have the Wayne factor - there were and still are plenty of people who would have preferred to keep the original huntress, Helena Wayne.

And then you have the fact that her first origin story, by Joey Cavileri in 1989, was fairly brutal. That may have turned off sensitive readers.

And finally, it occurs to me that she appeared mainly in Bat-books, and Batman never liked her. There was once a time when the Fandom trusted Batman's judgement, and that may have affected her popularity.

Oh, and Cry for Blood is excellent. Recommended reading for all Bird Fans.

Nope, it's just a companion trade to go along with the Justice Society and Power Girl trades, to complete the 1970s Earth-2 material, and since the Crisis Wave 3 has an action figure for her.

You aren't trusting in the Gail then. The Gail can overcome whatever is thrown at it. The Gail will turn it into a good thing you wished had happened before. The Gail is that good. Trust in The Gail!

I think this happened with Civil War too. Some people have before reading a single thing decided that Cap was right. Could this be because they feel Cap is ALWAYS right?

I think when characters have been around for a fairly long time, people dislike them because of periods of their existence or parts of their character. The fact she isn't the original Huntress, the fact she has slept around a little, the fact that she disagrees with Batman....it all adds up.

I really really do not want anyone to leave BOP. I just love the dynamics all to much. That being said, I if I were to choose could deal with The Huntress leaving easier then Black Canary. Mostly just because I love Dinah, and I think that she could make a interesting rolemodel for Gypsy.

Regardless, I'm sure I would keep reading. Favorite charecters are great to read ablout, but they are nothing with out a compitent passionate writer, and hopefully artist as well.

I think it would be way cool if they brought back Helena Wayne.
Not to replace Helena Bertenalli, but just cause she was cool. She could find her footing and take on a new name of course.

That's a good idea. Everyone gets what they want that way.
