Who is your favorite all-time television character? and why?
Carl Kolchak. He was always on the right track for the scoop of the year but no one cared....

Face (Templeton Peck) on the A-Team.
As a kid I thought he was the epitome of cool. Also, I was too young to complelty seperate him from Starbuck on Battlestar Galactica, since they were both Dirk Benedict. So cool, so very very cool.
Leslie Lee III

Jack Bauer
Although, technically, he shouldn't count as a "character" since 24 is a documentary.

Despite being a relatively new arrival to TV by comparison, Al Swearengen from DEADWOOD.
He spouts some of the best dialogue on TV and has undergone a great developmental character arc in the last 3 seasons of that show.

Its a tie between Doug Heffernan(King of Queens) and Homer Simpson. There about both funny and overweight. I wanna party with them.

Lucy from I Love Lucy. You just can't top that show.
(Allthough Mary Richards comes close.)

Optimus Prime. Needs no explanation.

There's a lot of great choices, but I guess I have to go with Homer. Almost twenty years and he still cracks me up.

Probably Mal Reynolds, River Tam, or Jack Bauer.

Fox Mulder. It sounds stupid...but a little bit of the reason I'm in Law Enforcement is because of old Spooky.

Brisco County Jr., or Gregory House.
Kolchak is up there, so is Barnabas Collins, the Doctor, Mick Belker, Ben Sisko, Jim Phelps, Paris and Jim Kirk.
Lucy, Ricky, Rob Petrie, Steve McGarret, Colombo and Mary Richards are up there too.
Hell so is Sue Ann Nivins, Jim Profit, Maverick and Will Robinson.
Frank Drebben, John Steed, Emma Peel and Caine too.
But if I had to pick just one character, I guess it would have to be The Prisoner.
Patrick McGoohan’s fable on individualism has had a bigger effect on my life and my philosophy then anything else I have ever seen on the tube. And the character himself is still my favorite secret agent ever.

Greg House of HOUSE, Al Swearengen of DEADWOOD, Edmund Blackadder of BLACKADDER, and Neil Burnside and Willie Caine of SANDBAGGERS.
If I had to pick one, it'd probably be Burnside. That might just be because his is the series I discovered most recently, though.

Not sure I have just one favourite, but all-time, I'll nominate Arthur Daley from Minder; and more recently, Angela Kosmo from the recently cancelled Da Vinci's Inquest.

In many ways, she was the Tao of Pu. The un-carved block who lived in complete amazement of the world around her, and greeted every day in total awe. For all the years that Jean Stapleton portrayed her, she and Edith truly were their audiences' best friend.

Number 6 is a great choice, as is Frank Pembleton.
But I'm going to have to go with FBI Special Agent Dale Bartholemew Cooper.
Dude's been a definite influence on my life in a great many ways. From his joy in simple things, through his childlike sense of wonderment, his loyalty to his friends and his very personal sense of honour and justice.

I'm a little more partial to Harvey but since Harvey only exists in John's head its like a vote for John. Or is it a vote for Scorpie?

Inspired choice. As is Ranger's Les Nessman. I also considered Ted Baxter and Radar O'Reilly.
My ultimate choice...Artemus Gordon.
It's not quite cancelled.. it moved on to be Da Vinci's City Hall.Sad to say, CBC appears to have cancelled City Hall now as well.

From the '60s: Maxwell Smart (GET SMART)
From the '70s: Archie Bunker (ALL IN THE FAMILY)
From the '80s: Hannibal Smith (THE A-TEAM)
From the '90s: Data (STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION)
Today: Michael Scoffield (PRISON BREAK)
Great characters + capable actors = great television. What happens when reality TV consumes it ALL? Will my fave TV character be "Linda" from The Real Housewivse of Orange County or something?

George Costanza - He's not a bad guy really, but he is however weak, petty, neurotic, self-involved, in brief i see him as likely the truest depiction of the everyman ever depicted on television.
Others i wanted to mention
Bill Haverchuck - Freaks and Geeks
Anya - Buffy
Dwight - The Office
Dutch - The Shield
Aku - Samurai Jack
Father Jack - Father Ted
Cookie Monster -Sesame Street
GOB - Arrested Developement
Groundkeeper Willy - The Simpsons

Dr. Robert Kelso - That guy is surely the Devil! He's a bastard to any and everyone around him. Although sometimes he's written like a live-action cartoon character, which is still great. He says the best lines.
"Who has 2 thumbs and doesn't give a crap?"
*points to himself with his thumbs up*
"Bob Kelso!"

One of my all time faves is Jimmy James, played by master character actor Stephen Root. He steals every scene in every episode on Newsradio.
Brian from Family Guy. Too much to relate to, except the whole self-licking habit.
and of course, The Masturbating Bear.
Frank Black from Millenium, played by the classy Lance Henricksen.
Dark Soul # 7

Dr.Cox. His a-holeness makes me smile all day long.
Spike(S2-3 of BtVS and S5 of Angel) not during the wuss years.
Stewie Griffin. He's an adorable evil baby genius. What's not to love?
I do love the bastards of tv.
EDIT: Oh, and I forgot Huey Freeman.
