View Full Version : Live Near Austin? Come Say Hello!

Gail Simone

This Friday evening and all day Saturday, I'll be appearing (along with Scott Kurtz, Matthew Sturges, Terry Moore, Cameron Stewart, and others) at the three Dragon's Lair Comics stores in honor of their 20th anniversary. Their stores are in Austin, Round Rock, and San Antonio.

I'm really jazzed about this...they really seem to be making this into a fun event, giving away t-shirts and comics and sponsoring a huge sale, my kinda event!

Hope some of you guys come out to say hello. I'd love to meet ya in person for a change! Bring lots of books for me to sign so I don't feel unwanted. ;)

Here's the info: dlair.net

Drop by for some fun!

Best always,

Gail

I'm there! That's, of course, assuming you swing through Houston and pick me up.

*breathes a sigh of relief* I thought one of my favorite posters snapped but this quote makes sense if you scroll down the threads. I'd explain it more, but I don't want to ruin TC's joke.

Only you are old enough to do that Cam.

Dizzarn, if only I weren't employed and toiling away this weekend I'd make the hour and a half drive.

Although if I don't work this weekend I wouldn't have the money to fill up the car anyway.

Foiled on two fronts.

To bad I live in Michigan. Are you ever in the Detroit area, Gail?

Sadly, I don't live anywhere near Terry Austin.

What about Steve Austin ?

My jaw just dropped. I would never have thought of you as a WWE fan. Than again Sabrina is a genius and she's a wwe fan, so you never can tell who like watching grown men in tights throw each other around.

Lester, I think you're a little confused. The Six Million Dollar Man was never a member of the WWE.;)

Shiloh speaks the truth, Lester.

Steve Austin, aka The Six Million Dollar Man, be whom I speaketh of.

...Damn wanker.

I thought you were referring to the only man in America that drinks as much beer as you do, only he got paid millions to do it on national TV.

Oh, he ain't so tough-lookin'.

Meanwhile, SURE I'll drop by Austin! Just let me get my super-duper underwater Pope-mobile out from storage.

Steven Austin is also the only person to legally get a social security number for his liver.
Dean Martin came close, but no cigar.

And we heathen Anglicans get the super-duper underwater kind of Pope-mobile. That wacky Henry VIII, he got us all kinds of perks.

I live in a place very far away from Gail..Oregon. I hear she NEVER comes there. Sigh. :p

i have never been further east than Las Vegas,so its unlikely that i can show up in Texas. And i have heard many scary things about that state...<scarit look>

And Lester..there is a difference between Stone Cold Steve Austin and Col.Steve Austin,ok? Yes both are fictional, and both have some mechanical parts in them, and both have seen their best days already, and both were loved by millions at one time,and...wow..maybe they ARE the same! :p

and others
Thanks, Gail. Us others appreciate it. :)

I'll be a little late getting to the gathering at Dragon's Lair tonight (my flight home to Austin from Chicago doesn't get in until later this evening), but I'll be there through the weekend. If you need any additional recommendations (restaurants, places to see, etc), feel free to ask away.

The Alamo is in San Antonio, Texas my hometown. San Antonio is just down IH-35 from Austin. I can't make it to Austin A) College B)I have made prior plans. But hey Gail if you ever feel like coming down to San Antonio, it would be great to see you in town, we have the River Walk, the missions which includes the Alamo, we host the Texas Folklife Festival I believe its June...
7th through 11th at the Texas Institute of Culture might have left out a letter or two, I mean there is plenty to do in downtown San Antonio, we also have Six Flags Fiesta Texas where you can catch the best shows in the nations offered up by Amusement Parks, and Seaworld San Antonio, why we have a Seaworld I'll never know.

Perhaps you could come in April during Fiesta! Which is kicked off by the St. Mary's Oyster bake, and stay for the Cavalier's River Parade, and its just a wonderful week celebrating San Antonio's rich culture and diversity, and another excuse to drink. Also come up to the Tower of Americas, that has just reopened, we really are a wonderful town, and I invite you to come and stay a few days when you get a chance.

Dang Gail! since ya'll were running late I missed out on meeting you. My boys had gone down for a nap, so I snuck out and played hookie while my partner watched TV. But they woke up before you arrived, so I had to go back to the day job! I did see Justin and Bert, which was great, but wish I had gotten to meetcha. and pitch you putting my kiddos in your comics. (Their secret powers are cuteness and screaming.) kinda like the Birds of Prey,
in all seriousness, it was a cool thing even if I missed out on seeing all the signers.

I was able to make it to the Round Rock store.

I was surprised that Gail is actually much taller in person than she appears in her posts.:p

Here (http://burritobandito.wordpress.com/2006/08/27/20th-anniversary-and-live-art-show/) are some pics from the event (courtesy of one of the Dragon's Lair employees). There should be more coming soon (I know a couple people were gonna email me when their pics went online), so I'll post those when I get them (unless Gail beats me to it).

And for those that remember the CAPE picture fiasco, you'll notice that I'm almost hidden from the camera in that first photo as well. :)

That's because Ray wasn't there. Otherwise you'd have been completely obstructed again. Ray's funny like that.:p

I came, I bought comics, I had cake, and I said hello.

I usually go to Austin Books and Comics, but dropped by Dragon's Lair to say hi. Austin Books even promoted Lair's anniversary party in the weekly email newsletter. Only thing I was disappointed in was the missing third issue of Truth, Justin, and the American Way. Scott Kurtz did say a trade's coming out soon though so I'll have to add that to the list.

You're the Wilson of Yabs. No one is ever going to get to see your face in a group picture.
