View Full Version : I Like The DC Solicits

Gail Simone

I saw a BUNCH of stuff that looked interesting in the new solicits, and I like how there is less emphasis on just the core three characters. Looks like a great month to me.

It may be great for other companies, too, but I've only seen DC so far.

Chaykin on JLA Classified, Huntress TPB, lotsa good WS and Vertigo.

Fun!

I most look forward to the new Mike Carey book despite having forgotten its name already.

And that gorgeous JLA variant cover I won't be able to buy because my shop will make it $20.

Which Huntress TPB is it?

I know she's only had like 2 minis. 1 with Cry For Blood and the other where she had sex with Nightwing written by Devin Grayson.

Both Huntress: Cry for Blood and Nightwing/Huntress have been collected.
She also had a 1994 mini by Dixon/Netzer and was in Robin III: Cry of the Huntress (1992)

But in December, is the really good stuff...

SUPERGIRL #12
Written by Joe Kelly
Art by Ian Churchill & Norm Rapmund
Cover by Amanda Conner
It's Supergirl vs. the League of Assassins and Batgirl! Cassandra Cain has something that creates a weakness in Kara - but what is it? Plus, more on Supergirl's new - and deadly - boyfriend!
Under normal circumstances I'd rejoice at Joe Kelly writing more Batgirl, but in this case? Fuck you, DC.

or:

All I see is sixty-something books and still no "Everything you thought you knew is wrong! Discover here the truth about how everything even vaguely Batgirl-related OYL was a particularly retarded mass hallucination! And shame on everybody who bought that bullshit for a moment." You are so useless to me, DC.

In either case, I've discovered that after DC set out on a campaign to tell me exactly how much my favorite character sucks, I've really been unable to give a rat's ass about anything DC does. It's like a variation of Godwin's Law - anything they say or do is immediatelly invalidated by "you fucked up Cass". Morrison on Batman? You fucked up Cass. Ennis writes more tough guy comics for Wildstorm? You fucked up Cass. Busiek makes Aquaman kinda not suck for the first time ever? Doesn't matter, because you fucked up Cass and nothing you do, DC, matters anymore. Cause and effect.

Huntress and Josh Adventures !

Only if it involves Snidely Whiplash tying Josh to the train tracks, while Huntress rides her horse across Gotham to save him.

Sadly, she is too late. The train hits him. Then Gorilla Grodd comes along and eats the remains. Then he craps out the remains, and they get mixed in with the soil.

Along comes Terra, who takes the pieces of crap (once known as Josh) mixed in the soil, and lifts mixed crap and soil into the air.

Superman flies along, stops down to see what Terra is up to, and fuses the floating pieces of crap and soil together as one big rock. He then punches it, and it flies off into millions of tiny pieces scattered across space.

We then cut to epilogue 1 featuring Josh's soul. Unfortunately, it doesnt go to Heaven or Hell. It is stuck in Hypertime, trapped in the body of the E-2 Black Canary (who thought she was her own daughter), and is in a comatose state in the Thunderbolt dimension.

Epilogue 2 features Zatanna mind-wiping the entire DC Universe (as well Wildstorm, Vertigo, Amalgam and Marvel universes) of any memory of Josh. Suddenly, we cut back to Huntress, who thinks to herself "Huh...I know was doing something...oh well, at least it's not the early 90's and I don't have a mullet anymore!"

P.S.
I hate Josh!!! :D

I'm glad you are enjoying DC comics. That said I would like you to try seeing why what happened to Batgirl has upset us. Many of us follwed that character month in and month out since she first showed up in No Man's land back in the late ninties, so naturally there is anger when such an emotionaly connected character changes so radically, with very little build up. It's not fair to those of us that spent many years, and dollars supporting DC and supporting the character.

I never cared about that Batgirl, but a Bat-Character with a long running solo book is at least b-list. You're just trying to piss off people. Wack!

That's not it. The kid eighteen years old, so he has a temperance that is normal for his age bracket. In a few years from now he will make his points without using the word whack. Also to be fair the kid does have valid point on how people shouldn't be missing out on upcoming great comics, just because of one bad comic they can't stand.

1. I'm really sorry you father had to fight in a war, and I hope he was treated really well during his captivity. If this is world war 2 you are talking about he may have been better off incarcerated as a lot of solders never came home in that conflict.

2. I can't speak for Germany, but America encourages a very prolonged adolescences in it's youth. It's not uncommon for a teenage to scream that they hate their parents, wish they'd never been born, etc. I think all teenagers in the country are drama queens, but thankfully we all outgrow it in college.

3 I could go on and on, but you have to look at Nick's intentions. His intention was to keep dishearten dc comic fans like me into the fold, rather than quit reading their comics outright which is what I've done.

Oh yes, my dad always thanked the fates that he ended up with the Americans and not the Russians. He even got to read Blondie comics sometimes.
