Wow, someone else who's seen Being There! Such a brilliant film, and I've never met anyboyd who's even heard of it!
Peter Sellers is a genius, and the movie is incredible.
Being There is really Peter Sellar's zenith. The culmination of everything he was and had ever done, and he would never do anything nearly as good, again. It's also a great satire, and a brilliant example of how people see what they need to see. I love Shirley MacLaine in it, as well.
Pairing it down to 10 was hard, There were a number of films that were on the list, like "Strangelove," and "the Party," but I went with "Being There" for Sellars, "2001" for Kubrick, and "the Anniversary Party," which is fantastic on its own, but also represents the influence of Sellars - rather nakedly. Of course being limited to 10, when I looked at the other lists, I thought, "I should have said 'Casablanca'!" or "Rear Window," or something by Fuller or Peckinpah!
