so far it seems like a by the book missing persons thriller.but according to the previews it might be something more to it than that.so far its interesting but i already hate the senetor's daughter lol :D (what a bitch!).why does everybody write young girls/women as inconsiderate bitches??...
on a lighter note Rebecca Gayheart is still fine as hell.

Gayhart's charcter really kills the flow of this thing. I really hope it's dropped midway through.
Otherwise, it's pretty eh.

After watching the first episode, I didn't see anything about it resembling The Skulls. Having watched the previews beforehand, I'm wondering how you even made the comparison.

We enjoyed it quite a bit. Not nearly as much as 24, which it really wants to be, but it was okay.
What was interesting to me is that this is really the first fall season that's latching on to the idea that your show will live forever on DVD no matter what the network does. You know how in comics people 'write for the trade'? Vanished seems to me to be a show that from the get-go is deliberately written for the DVD box set. I think we're going to see a lot more of these.

Fox has cancelled better shows than this. I watched the pilot both Monday night and last night, and it just didn't grab my interest.

To me this is another one of those shows that is a one trick pony, much in the vein of Prison Break, and the new NBC show Kidnapped. After a resolution in the first story arc where do you go?
It amazes me that Prison Break is starting its second year. Prison Break is the poor man's Fugitive. Kidnapped is the poor man's Ransom. How can shows like this stir interest after the first story arc is done.
Remember Wiseguy on CBS a few years back? It had a really cool intriguing first story arc. The second story arc was shorter more compact and not as intriguing though it did have Kevin Spacey and Joan Severence.
The storyarc after that kinda spelled the end for that show. I forecast something along the same lines for Vanished.

Would it have killed anyone to inform Rebecca Gayheart how to pronounce "Chamblee"? It's not "Shum-blee", but "Sham-blee".

pacey wasn't a freemason...:D
i stopped watching after 20 minutes...the pacing was too frenetic and they pretty much crammed the entire set up in the first 5 minutes...the wife has a mysterious phone conversation, then we find out she's mother theresa, the senetor is in the way of some political thing, speaks to some lobbist flunky dude for like 2 minutes and starts looking around for his wife who was only gone for like 2 minutes...apparently that's enough time to execute a high profile kidnapping...i don't watch 24 so i hould have know this wouldn't be my bag.

I loved the TV Guide Watercooler summation that described the daughter as Kim Bauer-esque.
That doesn't bode well for the character that's for sure.

I liked the pilot well enough. It was certainly no 24, but then again, not much is.
Rebecca Gayheart's character is kind of irritating, but I suppose I'll give it a chance.
The one problem I do have is I can't watch Gale Harold without thinking of Brian Kinney, :(. I guess I'll have to get over it.

That kind of sucked. I hated how desperately they set up the "rogue damaged FBI agent." Did they miss a single cliche with that one? Never mind the corny, over the top way they "damaged" him.
Really, just subpar acting all around. Everyone trying way too hard to be intense, but just coming off silly. Never mind that the whole daughter subplot was ripped right out of the first season of 24.

I had some problems with it, but I enjoyed it more as the hour progressed. I'm a little wary of when they start pulling out the 'ancient conspiracy' material.
However, it's an Atlanta-based show about a Georgia congressman. Named Collins. Ergo, it is the greatest new show of the year.
Okay, this show if getting way too confusing way too fast. The former mayor's wife was kidnapped by "them" before the senator's? The senator's daughter's boyfriend was in on it? The senator's ex-wife is hiding for no logical reason?
And the acting is horrible. Every time they show rogue FBI genius dude he looks like he's sucking in his gut.
Vanished is gonna disappear come time for some football.

Actually, those are the reasons we're starting to like it. Literally, Monday night a couple of minutes before the first commercial, I muttered to Julie, "Okay, this better get interesting before the next commercial or I'm done with it, I'm going to go read."
And it did. We like all the layers-of-conspiracy stuff, but most of all what we like is the freaky 1994 flashback story with the fisherman. THAT caught our interest. We like the fisherman anyway, we remember that actor -- though not his name -- from the Global Frequency pilot. We're hoping he gets more of a hero role, because the cop is kind of dull and we know that wherever this is going it's going to end with some kind of parallel situation to the bomb/hostage thing and he'll finally redeem himself. Yawn. We're more interested in the fisherman getting to the bottom of the '94 mystery, maybe with the newswoman.
Anyway, they held us for another week. Still on the bubble, but they get a little more rope from this household.

They may have concocted an interesting mystery but it just doesn't look like it'll be much fun figuring it out. The acting is below average and the suspense just isn't... suspenseful. But I'll wait to see if the upcoming falling elevator/ ramsom drop thing will do anything for me before I decide to drop it.

Three episodes in and I'm getting pretty fed up. Beyond the pedestrian storyline of the last episode, I want the teen daughter dead. She's worse than Kim Bauer.
By the way, Fox has ordered 3 more scripts of the series.

That would be nice, since I wouldn't have to deal with it and "Heroes" being opposite each other. And there's nothing I watch on Fridays now (except BSG, which is on a channel I don't get).

Fox has pulled the remaining episodes of Vanished from the air, thus ending the show. The last four episodes will premiere on the Fox On Demand myspace page starting today. (November 17th.)
I caught it once and just turned it off after the first 10 minutes. I mainly tuned in for Gale Harrold. But there was none of the spark he had in QAF.
