View Full Version : Was there ever more than one Flash in the DCAU?

In the mainstream comics DC Universe, there have been four main Flashes in continuity (Jay Garrick, Barry Allen, Wally West, and Bart Allen), with others such as John Fox and Walter West representing future times and parallel universes. The four main Flashes represent a continuing legacy.

In the DC Animated Universe that is home to the JUSTICE LEAGUE animated TV series, there seems to be only one Flash, and he's mostly like Wally (with a hint of Barry in him) from the comics DCU. In the DCAU, was there ever any Flash other than the one in the Justice League?

Unless you count the Streak, who was only a comic book character in the main DCAU universe, no. Not that I'm aware of having shown up or been mentioned, anyway. And I'm fairly certain I've seen all the Justice League and JLU at least once.

The DCAU Flash IS Wally West, a fact that was confirmed in the Star Crossed movie that bridged the two series. While hiding from the Thanagarian occupying force, the Flash objected to the suggestion that everyone reveal their secret identities to each other before blending into the civilian population. Batman's response displayed his typical penchant for "way ahead of you:"

Batman (pointing around the room and removing his cowl): "Wally West, Clark Kent.... Bruce Wayne."
The Flash: "Show-off."

Well Jay Garrick appeared in the comic book. And Michael Rosenbaum voiced Kid Flash in Teen Titans and the Kid Flash costume appeared in the Flash musuem so it is implied that Wally in the DCAU was once Kid Flash. Incidently in that same episode Wally's supervisor had a strong resemblance to Barry.

So I'm leaning towards probably but since the JLU is over we probably won't see the other Flashes. I was kind of hoping they would do a Flash family episode.

I'd also like to think the Flash Superman met in the Superman cartoon was Barry.

Nah, that was Wally too wasn't it? Wasn't he also in a Batman TAS episode? I seem to recall them both trying to save the same runaway subway. Wally was pulling out people one at a time and Batman just applied the brake.

I feel like that was TAS cause JLU flash was smarter tha that.

Anyone remeber this or was it just a dream?

Probably.

Jay’s helmet was seen in the Flash Museum in the episode where Wally, Batman, and Orion fight the Rogues.

While it isn’t 100% official canon, Jay physically showed up in the comic.

Edit: Wait, are you asking if there have been DCAU Flashes other than Wally or are you asking if the Flash has been in other DCAU cartoons than just JL/JLU? If it’s the former then I already answered it. If it’s the later then Wally has been in Superman, Teen Titans (though that was as Kid Flash and I don’t really consider TT to be in-continuity anyway), and IIRC he was with his fellow Leaguers in Static Shock (though it’s also debatable if that’s in the same continuity as most of the other recent DC cartoons).

Static Shock was in continuity; Batman and Robin guest-starred in the second season, and the entire Justice League made an appearance (Watchtower and all) in the third. Wally was present with the League to fight Brainiac in the two-part episode A League Of Their Own.

EDIT: An afterthought that occurred to me: Static showed up as his future self in the JLU episode The Once and Future Thing: Time, Warped; he was still an active League member during the period covered by Batman Beyond. Just further evidence that Static Shock is indeed in full DCAU continuity.

On the other hand: There's also an episode in an early season where Virgil and Ritchie are joking around about secret identities and one of them brings up Clark Kent/Superman. He wouldn’t know that if they coexisted in the same universe and they’d never met. The scene heavily implied that Superman was a fictional character in Static’s world just like he is in ours.

As near as I can tell, it wasn’t until they started to do the crossovers (Static has worked with Batman & Robin, Superman, Green Lantern, the rest of the JL, and the Batman Beyond Batman. We’ve also seen a future Static with JLU membership in time travel episodes of both his own show and JLU) that they changed their mind and decided to ignore the earlier seasons’ indications that they existed in separate universes and the Justice League were just fictional characters.

The latter seasons retconned Static into the DCAU, or at least something close to it since Brainiac doesn't seem to remember this particular encounter with the JL. I also think the latter seasons are more watchable.

I'd also like to think the Flash Superman met in the Superman cartoon was Barry.

Why? He was nothing like Barry. Although, around the time the episode "Speed Demons" aired, a children's book came out starring the Flash. It used the same design as the show, and it was narrated by Wally, who said that his uncle was the Flash before him and died, leaving him the mantle.

All we know from the DCAU is that there was a Kid Flash and someone wore Jay's helmet (as we saw in "Flash and Substance"). Wally sort of gets Barry's origin in "The Brave and the Bold", but that was a dream sequence, so we can't say it's his origin for sure.

Wasn't he also in a Batman TAS episode? I seem to recall them both trying to save the same runaway subway. Wally was pulling out people one at a time and Batman just applied the brake.

Flash was never on Batman The Animated Series (or the New Batman Adventures or Batman Beyond). Before Justice League, he was only in one episode of Superman.

Assuming that wasn't a dream, you may be remembering a Batman Adventures comic. I think Flash showed up in one.

No. It isn't even up for debate like Static and Batman Beyond/Zeta Project.
