View Full Version : Something I think TNA needs...

other than moving to a 2 hour show (obviously), another thing i would like to see TNA add is a US title belt. i don't want to see them go belt crazy and have a million of them, but we need a way to recoginize a heavy weight champion outside of the the world belt...because those title holders and contenders always seem to be based more around story than wrestling ability. personally, i think that world titles are usually rewards for years of service and/or contributions to the company/industry, and US titles are earned in the ring. since that seems to be the way TNA is treating the world title, i think we need a belt for the likes Rhino, The Truth, Samoa Joe and others.
maybe they could even give an automatic world title shot at a certain PPV every year to whomever is holding the US title. and if he wins, they could have a nice little heavy weight tournament to refill that position.
disclaimer: i love the world title storyline that is going on now with Jarrett, Sting, and Christian, and those are gonna sell ratings...but i think people like the ones i mentioned above still need to be honored with a belt too.

agreed but 1st things 1st, w/o a 2nd hour a 2rd title should not even be considered.

Hey! How about some more finacial stability and job security before any of that happens!?!

They have 3 belts, Champ, X Division, Tag. What they need is for foolish Orlando fans to stop booing Jarrett. If people went silent every time he came out, management would realise he isn't a draw anymore. Every time you Cheer or Boo they think you are reacting to a good show. Dead heat is the only way to force change in wrestling.

panda seems pretty stable, and i think TNA actually started turning a profit this year.

If they hadn't brought in old farts like Lugar, Bagwell, Sting and Steiner they would have turned a profit. Panda has told shareholders they have a 5 year plan. Apparently they will sink as much money into TNA as needed to secure it's profit, and don't expect to turn a steady profit for the first 5 years.
Their ultimate goal is to take the top spot from the WWE within 10 years or less. Si it looks like Panda is in it for the long haul. BTW all this information was reported last year at their anual stock holders meeting.

they didn't pay luger, bagwell, or rick steiner shit, they only came out 1 night for a short segment each, and spike pay part of stings salary. it will take a long long time to ever take WWE's top spot.
i would be happy with a better timeslot or a 2nd hour myself.

Well they expect with free TV , getting a percentage of house shows , and PPV's to break even in 2007. They have sunk about 15 million in TNA since 2002. They got an offer from Morthaplex ( the company they advertise) in December to sell the company for $ 20 million. Panda told em no.
Spike TV fits , Bordan's air travel and half his pay in TNA now. So TNA , besides him really hasn't broke the bank signing guys. They have been smart enough to keep the guys they have developed like A.J Styles , AMW and all.

But I like that there is only one top belt, and like you phrased it, Rhino, Joe, Sting, Christian, Jarrett, Truth, Brown, Abyss, etc. have to earn it in the ring to get it.
Say what you will about Jarrett, but it always makes it sweeter when someone finally takes it off him.
I'm pretty sure Joe is going to get the belt and really turn into a fighting champ - its just a matter of "when."

I too like the fact there is only one belt for the reasons you mentioned.
Sadly when Joe does finally win it i can see Jarrett taking it off him about a month later and taking the undefeated streak with it.

It never draws money, though. The 'sweetness' of it is meaningless fan talk, if the title isn't drawing then the wrong person is the champion.
Ask Christian.

How about they figure out how to book the 3 titles they already have?

I'm with Leslie on this one.
Kevin Nash and Samoa Joe being in the X-Division shows that it doesn't have to be confined to the "cruiserweights". That could be used in other storylines with people like Ron Killings and others that will probably never touch the "big gold" again.

Hopefully TNA management wont let that happen just because Jeff Jarret is Jeff Jarret. Samoa Joe needs to either stay undefeated forever or lose to somebody like Abyss, A.J. Styles, or Rhino in a sweet ass match. Jeff Jarret is really overrated and he would be the last person in my mind to beat Samoa Joe, even if he got help from outside interference.

The Sting debacle shows they need to fix the booking. The booking commitee seemed more intent on fueding Sting/Jarrett than using Sting to enhance the other stars they have and it showed. Samoa Joe leaves Sting laying after a PPV and that ball is dropped. Sting wants to fued with Abyss ( from what rumors said when he came in ) and that ball too was dropped.
The booking problems are hurting the company. Its like TNA's afraid to ask Sting to job to Samoa Joe or feed Christian to Samoa Joe or Jeff Jarrett. Its pretty f-cked up booking and Paul Heyman ripped the company for it and other issues in May.
Its too bad DanH isn't here to defend the companies bad booking. I'd welcome him to explain to me what the idea was to bring Sting into the company and book him into a fued with Jarrett a whole year ignoring the matchups fans demanded to see.

I hope it doesnt happen either and i think AJ or Daniels should be the one to end the streak unless they happen to bring Danielson in and he proves he is the truly the greatest wrestler in the world like he proclaims he beats Joe.
In reality Jarrett will see the only way to keep his heat will be to screw Joe out of his streak so will probably push for it to happen once Joe finally gets round to beating him for the title.

I cant really see Joe getting screwed out of his undefeated streak, Cornette can put him in a match against Jarret, Steiner, and Americas Most Wanted and I still see Joe coming out of top somehow. Knowing TNA though they will probably have Jarret beat Joe because of interference by Steiner, I hope that never happens but I wouldnt be surprised if it did.

As for what tna needs well they lack their own identity. They push themselves as an alternative but they're really just WWE-lite. I wouldn't mind them focusing on storylines, but they don't do them as well as WWE. They are making the same mistakes. They push their X-Division...sort of. They give the guys matches, but why should the fans give a crap? None of those guys have any sort of character development.
The only thing TNA has over WWE right now is it's tag division.
What they really need is to have that one person they can rely on in ring, promo wise and in advertising as well. I mean, Austin was a machine for WWE (as well as Rock and HHH) when it came to making magic in the ring. But they were also excellent on the mic and putting over what they were doing. In addition, they also were marketable ... so that just made them look even better in the product.
If TNA can actually get one person that can give them those three things, I think they may be able to do something. Until then though...they will just be that other wrestling company.
