Raven was a Highlander tv show, and it was bad. So bad at the peak of popularity, for Highlander, it lasted 1 season. Even fans that were nuts about the regular serries begged for it to be taken off the air.

one of the best action series of all time.

It had some of the best characters too: Joe, Methos, Amanda,

some truely brilliant villians: horton, callus, xavier st cloud, chronos.

I just wish that they would have been better at marketing the series to make up for highlander 2 <shudder>

A lot of people on this board bash it so I was wondering if I was alone in liking it.

I think there's more bashing of people that use any excuse to bring up the show, than of the actual show...

I liked it up until Archangel. Sweet merciful crap, what a nosedive. The Devil is not a suitable villain for all shows, and the following season was pretty blatantly an attempt to find a female star for the spinoff (and after all that, they went with Amanda. Well Gee Duh, I could have told them to do that without wasting a season).

Raven was terrible, unfortunately, largely due to Wolf. Oh, the writing was pretty damn crap, but the worst bits of writing all revolved around that Gary Stu. Hey! He turns out to be an immortal at the end! Wow. Surprising.

What happened during the last season was that Adrian Paul made it clear it was going to be his last season, and that he was only going to be contractually available for a specific amount of hours. As a result they had make him only peripherally apart of the show, and since they did forced to do that they used that season as a tryout for the star of Raven the Highlander spin off.

Three things happened during Raven that ruined that show.

1. The stars could not stand each other, and were constantly trying to upstage each other to see just who the star of that show was.

2. Amanda was dating a mob person, and was acting like a diva.

3. Initially there were no flashbacks, which initself killed the show for many fans.

4. Elizabeth is a fine actress, but can't swordfight to save her life.

You are not alone TC.

I grew up in a household where my stepdad was the ultimate ruler of the tv, so I have seen all Highlander episodes as well. They actually were fairly decent. I'm a big history buff, so alway dug the flashback scenes. Because of my stepdad I was also the only girl in my social circle who knew what a Ferengi was. :p
Wow, man, I love that series. I lost track of it along the way, but my favorite was always the Watchers.

Oh, yeah, and pretty much disliked the movies.

It went six seasons, and was a great lil show. I hated the concept at first, and disliked the first few episodes, but it got very better till the last season, which was pretty awful.

It even had a spin off show, dealing with Amanda, his on/off again girlfriend called Highlander, the Raven. One season.

And i dislike movies 2 and 3,but i thought the fourth had promise, and can not dimiss the whole movie. Good idea, but weak ending, and fans were mad Conner dies in the movie, thus creating alot of bad will.

There IS a new movie being filmed, staring Adrian Paul as Duncan.

Just to let you know.
Wished i HAD 250 bucks or so to spend on all six season at once, much less time to watch them!! =P

The last year was horrible,as it mainly was a tryout for female leads to star in the spin-off title. I think they went with the right character, but the show itself, the Raven, was awful. I do LOVE her hairstyle thou. Siiigh. :)

I liked the TV show, but the latter seasons weren't as enjoyable for me. First of all, it was very difficult to find out when it was on here, what time, and the station. There were also episodes that I didn't hate, but I disagreed with certain elements or decisions. I don't think I saw the last season, though.

As for Highlander. I really liked the series but I think the first season was the worst. The first season, like most of them, was trying to find it's legs and a lot of the human characters bored me. By far the worst part of the series was the devil story arc. It really didn’t seem to fir the series at all. The last season was good. It gave us a few stories dealing with other immortals. It was something I wanted to see more of throughout the series.

Raven was ok but I didn't like how they brought back the actor who played Chronos to play a different villain. I liked the character Nick Wolf and I think if they gave it more seasons it would have gotten better.

Disagree with this list. First off, that's not three things, but I don't think those were the core problem anyway.

Wolfe and Amanda were just a horrible couple of characters to put together. Amanda was a character with some great comedic moments, and Elizabeth got that part partly because she could do that kind of thing. The scripts didn't play to that strength, and Wolfe (both the character and the actor) was just a Gawd awful straight man for the few moments when she was trying to be funny. I'm not going to go into whether or not I thought Wolfe was a bad character (I thought he was a terrible character, but that's not what's important), he just wasn't what you needed for Amanda's costar. You needed a good straight man, to be amazed at and afraid of Amanda's world, and that's not what we got.

I agree with most of your post but Amanda and Nick really did upstage each other trying to see who the star of the show was. Elizabeth Gracen(Amanda) talks about it during the commentary in the Highlander DVD. I forget the episode name but it was the show where Kit and Amanda, two of Duncan's friends, were trying to kill each other first over an old score and then over a horse. I can find out when I get home if you realy want to know.

I believe it, I just don't think that was the core problem. There are lots of cases where two actors trying to upstage one another has made for a good watch. Off the top of my head, that was supposedly going on during M.I.B., and the actress that played "Ginger" on Gilligan's Island was constantly trying to upstage everyone else, who returned the favor to her (and yet without much animosity, oddly enough) but that was perfect for her character.

Them main problem with Amanda was that she was being written quite differently from how she was originally written, and Elizabeth wasn't getting a chance to use the strengths she has as an actress that had gotten her the part in the first place.

The main problem with Wolfe was that he (both the character and the actor) was a terrible "straight man". Whenever Elizabeth was meant to be funny around him (which wasn't as often or as well written as was needed) he basically poured water on the joke with his reactions (wheras Adrian Paul had done shock and exasperation nicely), and he likewise diffused the excitement over the entire world of the Immortals with his laconic reactions.
