Well, people are reading the post at least, even if they've not yet read the books.

The first 3 are set in the 1800s, "the Burnt Over District" which is the Genesee Vallley of Western New York State (about 7 hours, by car, west of New York City), between Syracuse and Buffalo. It's the region that Rochester is in. They are all self-contained stories, but some of the characters pass through the other books, and the history of the area provides the spring-board for the stories.

The 4th, I've not read yet, or even seen, but it's contemporaneous.
