i've really enjoyed alot of his work, i've seen mostly his action stuff. my favorites
the warriors
streets of fire
48 hours
another 48 hours
last man standing
geronimo
what do you think of his work, which movies did you like/dislike, and is there any movies by him that you'd recommend that i might not have seen??
Let's add both the Long Riders and Southern Comfort to that list.
Plus scripts for The Getaway and The Driver.
The man is one of the best talents out there.

there's a few i've seen when i was really young and don't remember, such as the long riders & red heat. what is southern comfort like??
my favourite: Hard Times, which also happens to be Charles Bronson's best movie, IMO.

never seen that one, bronson has always reminded me of my grandpa on my moms side.

It's basicly about a group of National Guardsmen with weapons filled with blanks for war games, who end up really pissing off some mean cajun swampfolks who then decide on some serious revenge.
But it's actually a much deeper film about normal men in extreme circumstances.
Plus it has a great cast of character actors. Keith Carradine, Powers Boothe, Peter Coyote, Fred Ward, the underrated Alan Autry and Brion James all turn in great performances.
There are some obvious comparisons to Deliverence here, but in the end this one shines all on its own.

Yet another great one and James Coburn is excellent in that one too.

I absolutely love Streets of Fire. It's so earnestly epic, so much neon and new wave.... Diane Lane is gorgeous, Willem DaFoe is menacing.... one of those movies that doesn't amount to much, but you still have to love.

It's rather lacking in substance, but it sure does *look* great. It was one of the first movies to show the definite MTV influence.
Diane Lane is indeed sexy as hell in that movie, though.

Indeed she does she was a huge teenage fantasy for me after seeing this film.

Apparently the only similarities between the original and the remake is the name, Cyrus, and the plot about being surrounded by enemies and the gang is trying to get home. It will be set in present day Los Angeles, it wont have any Warrior names like Ajax or Snow, and will be directed by Tony Scott.

He's done more work as a producer than as a director, so major shout-outs for ALIEN (in which his draft of the script with co-writer David Giler transformed a good B-movie into a great A-film), the TV series TALES FROM THE CRYPT, TWO-FISTED TALES, and PERVERSIONS OF SCIENCE (based on the various EC sci-fi titles), and W.E.I.R.D. WORLD (a 2-hour pilot for a slightly tongue-in-cheek version of X-FILES).
EXTREME PREJUDICE is perhaps my favorite of his films, a vastly underrated contemporary Western (drug lords instead of rustlers, AK-47s and jeeps instead of Colt. 45s and horses) with Nick Nolte and Powers Boothe backed up by Michael Ironside and Rip Torn (ye gods! How can anyone NOT love this film with that cast?).
STREETS OF FIRE is not a particularly good movie, but it's got some great music videos imbedded in it, two based on Jim Steinman songs.
Anyone interested in screen writing is urged to track down any of Hill's scripts, in particular ALIEN. They are textbook examples of how to convey the most information in the minimum amount of verbiage.

You're my new best friend! I love this movie to death. Bronson was already in his 50s when he made this and he looks tough as leather. Where are the toughs in Hollyweird, today? All a buncha sissies up there!! This is easily one of Hill's best movies, too. If only Barry DeVorzon's score would somehow be reissued on CD. If they could do it for Death Wish and its snazzy Herbie Hancock score...
