First thing I've EVER done in photoshop. Can't believe I'm so far behind!
It's ridiculous...

Got some Hellboy (finally!) stuff in the works.

Oh, and thanks to The Cure for the monkeys pic!

Could be the hormones or it could be the jelly fish....but I just love the second one.

It truely is beautiful..great use of sea horse skeletons.
Some of the trim is a little sloppy, for instance- right arm pit. But hey! you say you just began photoshop...Damn good for a start!

That face under her right arm..looks familiar.

more photoshop!

Yes, beer and photoshop lead to some interesting things, including sloppy cropping and erasing.

Not sure if I should've posted that second one, but at least now I've sized it down a bit.

This is just being bored in class...

That new collage is really cool, I love the graffiti in the background! and the photoshop collage with all the loligos is sweet, due to it being an army of loligos :D.

More! Please!

are you doing anything for the exchange? I bet you'd make a kickass hellboy, especially if it's in your sweet abstract style.

I would like to take a minute and officially apologize for a certain piece that I posted recently. I realized that it may have been offensive to some people and that this was/is not the proper forum to share that sort of work.
I'm sorry.

I've also decided that I should do at least one HB related piece for every other piece that I post, seeing how this is the Hellboy forum.

So here's an early version of what I've been working on in Illustrator today. The horns need to be moved around and adjusted a little bit, and I'm sure there's a few other things that need a closer look at before coloring begins.

Is that the one with the mailbox? sweet isn't it.

Very!

ATTENTION - FREE MUSIC

I recently went through a few boxes of somewhat old stuff and came across a three pack of cds that I had thought were long lost. They're different dj mixes I'd done between 2002 and 2003, all exploring the different sides of drum n bass. Sometime in the late 80's, a London club dj played a breakbeat record at 45 speed (it was supposed to be played at 33) and noticed how the mob on the dancefloor just ate it up. Over the next year or two, it got pitched up a little bit more and became what is known as Jungle (some found the name offensive) or drum n bass.

Mix one is smooth and jazzy (there are a handful of truly beautiful pieces of music on this one) and was mixed live at Burning Man in 2003. It has a pretty compressed sound as I was experimenting with mini-discs at the time.

Mix two starts off pretty smooth and bouncy and gets more and more aggressive as it goes. Kind of my "rock out" version.

And mix three is very abstract and jazzy. More for the head.

So, if anyone is interested, let me know. Just pm me your address, which ones you'd like (one or all), and it would also be cool to know if you're familiar with the music at all. I also recently made some tunes and sampled from the Hellboy soundtrack, but I don't think those will be ready to go for a while yet.

Sweet!

I'm not sure how many of you are familiar with the work of Alex Grey, but he is easily one of my top favorite artists outside of the comic world.

I was recently hired to make a flyer for a rare Seattle appearance of this man and his work, and I am deeply honored. Especially since I not only got paid, but I was given two tickets to the gala dinner event (the tickets are $200 a pop! )

Unfortunately, the layers to the fish piece and the cover were somehow flattened and I'm not able to get back into them. The fish piece was the least photoshop'd of the lot, I just tweaked the waves out a little bit and added the flowers.

Thanks for the feedback you guys!

Only used a few photos. Layered 'em up a few times and applied different effects like overlay, and color burn and then liquified it a little bit. Layer masks are a dream, too.

Yeah! Beyond sweet.
Reminds me, I should post the Cd art I just did for a friends band, It's a bit inspired by your cd work, i even think i used some photos used in a previous one you did, cut out of a National Georaghic. Didn't realized it at the time but saw the art again on your site and... oh well.

Is there more art from the inside or do you only have the cover done? I'm really looking forward to the rest

kid cthulhu
10-14-2005, 05:05 PM
Thanks, Johann. I'd love to see the stuff you're doing.
Probably won't be much more on this in the way of inside art. I'm giving away as many of these as I can (passed out about 20 last night to area club promoters) so I need to keep my costs low but still present a nice package.
Although, I still have to come up with the art to put on the actual disc, which I'll post when it's ready.

Did a few Hellboy doodles, but I haven't got them with me just now. I'll post them soon.

More recent stuff.
This first one, "Squidville", I did for a color theory class. It's actually the first painting I've ever done, so I'm pretty psyched to start playing with paint more. It's guache, 20" x 26".
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/jemaha/squidville3.jpg

This is another painting for the same class. Guache gray study. 8" x 10"
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/jemaha/pippi.jpg

I saw a sweet stencil piece in a recent issue of Juxtapoz and really wanted a version for myself. The original is by an unknown graffiti artist out of the UK.
This is all spraypaint, and pretty big at about 2' x 4'.

I've always liked it when several pieces together form a larger piece/idea.

Great stuff, Kid C! Between your Photoshop skills, your drawing skills and now your painting skills you're getting together a serious arsenal. I studied colour theory in my design program in college and worked with gouache. I found it very hard to get colour or tone gradients that didn't look uneven when it dried. Squidville looks great but the grey scale piece is lovely.

Hey, thanks guys!
I've gotta admit, it feels good to be picking up new skills. Especially in the paint department. I've been so intimidated my whole life to experiment with it due to an initial attempt when I was a kid that failed miserably.

On a side note, for those of you who were maybe interested in my music projects, I've been terrible about following up requests for cds and I apologize.
However, everything (2 dj mixes and 5 original compositions) is available for free download at my site Atomik Zu (http://atomikzu.moonfruit.com).
Feel free to hit me with any feedback, positive or negative. That's how we grow, right?

hell yeah.

Martyr Dumb and Non-Prophet were my favorites, . My dad would like this too, he loves electronic and dance music. I actually liked everything from Haunted Origami, fun for sure. The songs kind of reminded me of when I discovered Nine Inch Nails at a friend's house, for some reason. I dig thems songs for sure.

I'll get around to listening to the hour-long tracks at some point, probably after smokin' some tiny plants of sorts ;).

Heh, no kidding!

Here's a couple of HB sketches that have been hiding in my sketchbook for a while.
The first is just a few roughs, experimenting a little with Mignola's approach.
The second is just for kicks.
The last one is a scene I'd really love to see Mike tackle at some point in the comics - Big Red visiting Trevor's grave. Maybe a whole issue of just HB telling the Prof all of the crazy stuff that's happened in his life and in the world since he passed. I think it would be great.
This one definitely needs some more work - the RHoD thumb seems weird. I'll post the finished piece when it's, um...finished?
