Justin Hammer in Iron Man was based on Peter Cushing

John Constantine was based on Sting

Ultimate Nick Fury on Samuel L. Jackson

The field leader of the Skrulls (or 'Chitauri' if you like) in Ultimates Vol 1 is a dead ringer for Robert Carlyle (Trainspotting, The Full Monty), too much so for it to be a coincidence. Particularly in the full page mug shot depiction that he got at the end of issue 10.

ChrisCross drew Bruce Banner like David Duchovny in an issue of Captain Marvel for no apparent reason.

Captain Marvel was drawn to look like Fred MacMurray.

"How could I have known that murder could sometimes smell like honeysuckle?"

In Identity Crisis, Rags Morales used a lot of celebrities for his characters.

Who, exactly? I didn't really notice any.

Ron Jeremy for Captain Boomerang.

Ricardo Montalban (as Khan) for Meryln.

Carolyn Jones (Morticia Addams) for Phobia.

Almost every character was based on SOME celebrity (heck, even the Calculator was based on Brad Meltzer).

The Hellfire Club were based in name and appearance on the old Avengers show and a few other things:

Jason Wyngarde - Peter Wyngarde
Sebastian Shaw - Robert Shaw
Harry Leland - Orson Welles
Donald Pierce - Donald Sutherland

Here's the Wikipedia entry - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hellfire_Club_%28comics%29

I know somewhere out there they compare pictures, but...I don't remember which site that was.

Luke Ross's Jonah Hex is a dead ringer for Clint Eastwood. Well, if Clint had horrible facial scarring.

The Bronze Age Superman characters Terra-Man and Vartox were based off of Clint Eastwood and Sean Connery, respectively. Since they were created in attempt to give Superman's rogue gallery a shot in the arm, it was decided that it'd be a good idea to base them on two of the hottest actors of the day.

Hmmm... Vartox always looked Mexican to me.

I believe Mark Millar references actors in just about every character he creates.

The main two characters in Wanted were blatantly Eminem and Hally Berry

Gil Kane used Paul Newman as the model for Hal Jordan.
Don Heck used Errol Flynn as the model for Tony Stark.

i thought the Flash Thompson from The Other saga looked a little too much like Jim Carry.

i think the most famous one is without a doubt Ultimate Nick Fury based on Samuel L. Jackson

Slam Bradley is based on Robert Mitchum.

Huh? Slam debuted in Detective Comics #1 (March 1937) and is an obvious swipe of Roy Crane's Captain Easy. Mitchum's first film credit was in '42. Or are you referring to some later incarnation of the character?

I think DubipR is referring to the Paul Gulacy rendition of Slam in CATWOMAN, who bore a strong resemblance to Mitchum.

If the resemblance never occurred to you earlier, you obviously never saw this picture before.

Count yourself lucky, I suppose.

Anyway, the lower half of the body, especially, is JUST LIKE Vartox's.

Yes. Thank you. I should've clarified that. But it was Darwyn Cooke's rendition of Slam that was Mithcum. Gulacy just upped it one.

Thanks for clearing that up. If it's happened in the last en years or so, I probably missed it.

Oh, you're right; I forgot Cooke's version of Slam.
