Varies from month to month but I'd say $80 is average. The most I ever spent in a month was $400. I don't smoke or drink so I need to have a different addiction than most. ;)

You know I was just thinking about this. First, I spend about $30 if you factor in the occasional TPB:
Punisher MAX
Powers
Daredevil
Captain America
Ultimates 2
She-Hulk
Civil War
But note that I said these are the titles I "collect." What I've been thinking about lately is that I would like to READ several more titles a month, but I just don't care to collect them. Don't have the space, don't care that much about the creators, etc. If Marvel offered some kind of electronic subscription service (perhaps $30-40 per month) where I could log in and read anything published in the last 30 days - I would be all over that. I'd still collect the hard copies of my favorites, but for the X-Books, or the Avengers stuff - I would love to tune in and read a few books a week.
Granted, in some cases they may lose money on people who traditionally buy their entire catalog each month, but it would almost triple what I give them, and might even get me to buy more hard-copy titles.
Of course, there's the issue of piracy. But their Electronic Comics engine is pretty good as is, and it wouldn't take much to build one that prevents easily copying high-res books.
I know it will never happen, but it would tickle my fancy if it did.

Right now around $45-$65 I guess. I never really keep track because if I do I know I would be ashamed.

I really need to cut down.

I don't keep track
I have my 11 issues at my LCS to keep the 15% discount ( though thanks to delays and minis this is only 8 thank you Wolverine vs Hulk and Daredevil Father)
my 30 dollar a month credit at work
and my subs which is a 30-40% discount
but I also do Ebay, Mycomicshop and Amazon when I have extra money

well my collection is a shared habit with those i live with, I also need to budget in the fact i am gay under 30 an going off to clubs 40 mins away from me at least so i have really been cutting down.
I spend about 40 a month usually alittle more alittle less
Marvel I have droped to just
Uncanny X-MEN
X-MEN
NEW AVENGERS
MS MARVEL
They start going above the three dollar mark an I am done. There getting to be way to much to justify throwing away money on.

I'd ball park 100-300... I buy TPB, so sometimes I don't even buy any, and then other months I fork out big cash. I sometimes pick up random mini series to keep myself busy.
1)Cable Deadpool
2)X-men
3)Amazing Spidey

If I add it up, I'll only feel bad about it.
Needless to say, it's gone up... A LOT in the past two years. Partly because of increase in price, partly because they keep increasing the Spider-Man and X-Men lines which I read a lot of, and partly because I am not longer in absolute finanical crap so I can afford more books.

Now consider that 20 years ago, most comics were .65 cents. Now tally up all the books you buy right now and make them .65 cents. Look at the difference in how much you'd be spending.

Somewhere around 60 individual titles a month (depending on the # of minis at the time, crossovers, and skip months). After discount, bags/boards, and sales tax, it's usually around $170 a month on those normal issues. The occasional trade, back issue, bust, figure, etc is above & beyond (but only every so many months).

Right now I`m spending about $80 a month due to Civil War. After the war is over I`ll be back down to 10 ongoing titles but 2 of them are on an irregular schedule.(Ultimates2 and All-Star Superman.) So probably $25 to $35 a month when theres not a big event going on.
Marvel: Amazing Spider-Man, Fantastic 4, Ult. Spider-Man, Ultimates 2, Ultimate Fantastic 4, Ult. X-men
DC: Detective Comics, Batman, JLA, All-Star Superman
Minis: Civil War, CW:Frontline, CW:X-men, Wolverine CW tie-ins. Ult. Wolverine Vs. Hulk
The rest of the Civil War tie ins I buy as I can afford them.

Average of $80 a month from internet discount service. 40 comics on pull list, but with bi-monthlys or delays it's shorter each month. Before I went with the service it was around $200 a month with gas to drive the 50 miles one wat to the nearest LCS. Thank god I switched before gas really jumped. And it's sad, but I've been in there a couple times to pick up boxes or something when I'm in that town and there a55h0les to me now. So I get the boxes online now too.

I spent $271 last month on comics, mostly trades, hardcovers, and back issues. I'm gradually moving away from buying any new individual issues, and I'm liking the storage convenience much, much better with books.

That's insane that you spend that much on comics in a month. I just find that a little sorry.
It all depends on how much money you have available to put towards your hobby. I work two jobs and have two expensive hobbys. One is comics and the other is guns. Of course my wife and I are both competitive shooters. And we are both avid comic readers...well, she reads Wonder Woman and a Hell of a lot of Anime and I pick up everything else. We both work corporate jobs and we both work in a bar. It leaves us very little time to do anything, but a lot of extra money at the end of the month. So, we hit car shows and buy cars, gun shows and by guns and Comic shows and buy lots of comics. We hit Charlotte's Heroes-Con a little bit ago and in September we will be going to the Baltimore Comic-Con. So, it's all subjective to a person's financial situation. In June I spent about $900 on comics. In July I spent about $60. This month I spent about $60. In September I will probably spend around $1000 or so. Or I'll buy a new motorcycle. I haven't decided yet. It's early and I'm tired and I don't feel like I am making much sense. My point is; if you have the money and the inclination to buy comics. Buy whatever you want and spend however much you want. This has been a long-winded public service announcement from Nemo. If it makes no sense, please chalk it up to me being supremely sleepy.

That depends on your income level and how you spend your money. My wife makes a very nice salary, enough to pay all our expenses entirely on her own, and I've never had one of those expensive gourmet coffees in my life, so there's $100-150 a month right there, and neither of us drinks alcohol or smokes, so we lack expenses others take for granted. With no car payment that leaves a good amount for hobbies, artwork, concerts, etc.
It's about what you can afford, and what your interests are. Some people spend $1000 a month eating out. Others stock a wine cellar or a liquor cabinet and drink every night. My father in law collects vinyl record albums. My brother has four season tickets to both a pro baseball team and college football team.
It's just about what interests you. There's nothing wrong with any hobby so llong as you're not spending money needed for necessities.

And you are in charge of my finances? With the money I bring home, I can afford to spend this much. I also support someone else besides myself, I pay rent, I pay bills, and I live a very comfortable life and buy pretty much what I want. I have the latest greatest electronics, and a nice ass car too.
In other words, get a life and stop worrying about mine.
And I am only 27 too.
By the way to other posters, I apologize if this sounds like bragging, you won't find me saying stuff like this about my life normally, but when someone tells me I am sorry, or something I do is sorry, I will stand up for myself. I just hope Dustin reads this.

About $100/month. About 23 monthly titles and then assorted minis, one-shots, and things that come out pretty much at random.

How much I spend depends on my current financial situation really. I'm currently in Grad school, and have just finished off paying a rather large debt (for my income level anyhow), this hasn't left me with much disposable income, so I spend maybe $30-40 a month on comics. In the past I've spent up to $300 a month on comics.
If you don't eat out too often, don't smoke and don't drink (or only drink on occasion), you'd be surprised how much extra cash you have to put to other uses. Three hundred dollars a week on a hobby isn't much if you're making 50K+ a year (and don't have a family to support).

I spend about $130-$150 a month currently and thats $60-$70 books, bags and boards for all also. I have been as high as $300 a month but right now alot of books from DC that I was getting got bad, so DC lost about $100 of my money every month. If the books ever become good again I will go up to $300 or more if need be, just whatever I need to pay to get the books I want to read.

I typically spend right around $80 a month, give or take depending on delays or mini series. Right now I'm getting:
Marvel:
X-Men, Uncanny X-Men, Astonishing X-Men, New Excalibur, X-Factor, Wolverine: Origins, Civil War: X-Men, Civil War, Ms. Marvel, Moon Knight, U. Wolverine vs. Hulk, Annihilation
DC:
Green Lantern Corps., Batman, Ion, 52, JLA, Allstar Batman & Robin
Wildstorm:
Skyerunner
Other:
Mouseguard, Ant
Future titles:
WildCATS, Hero's for Hire, Ultimate Power, Phoenix Warsong, Ultimate Wolverine and I can't think of any others but I'm sure theres more.
Read but do not buy (my brother collects them):
Amazing Spider-Man, Spectacular Spider-Man, F.N. Spider-Man, Civil War Frontline, Green Lantern

How many titles do you buy monthly? Do you subscribe or do you get them at your comic shop? Lately I've been getting pretty much all the civil war tie-ins, all the non-ultimate spider-mans (just for the first few "unmasked" storylines), and ghost rider. My girlfriend gets uncanny/astonishing x-men. It seems like a lot to me. After civil war I'm going to have to decide which comics I want to subscribe to, and how many I should get. What's normal for you guys?

Since I live in Amsterdam, I don't have any subscribtion at Marvel itself, but you can take subscribtions from the store itself. When you take a subscribtion on a series, you'll get a 20% discount at our import comicshop.
So far I have subscribtions on:
X-Men
Uncanny X-Men
New X-Men
Astonishing X-Men
X-Men: Warsong
Excalibur
Civil War, including sketsbook, the files and Warcrimes
CW: Frontline
CW: X-Men
CW: T-Bolts
CW: YA & Runaways
CW: Cable & Deadpool
CW: Blackpanther (just subscribed yesterday)
CW: Ms Marvel
I cancelled my subscribtion on X-Factor
.

I think after civil war is over I'll probably get:
-Whatever Avengers title comes after CW
-Astonishing X-men
-Uncanny X-men
-Amazing Spider-man
-Cable & Deadpool (or, if something happens in CW, whatever comic Deadpool is in)
-Captain America
-Ghost Rider (if I still like it by then)
Subscriptionwise, that would come to around $140 USD, but I guess it's not that bad when you consider it's for the whole year, right?

Average of $80 a month from internet discount service. 40 comics on pull list, but with bi-monthlys or delays it's shorter each month. Before I went with the service it was around $200 a month with gas to drive the 50 miles one wat to the nearest LCS. Thank god I switched before gas really jumped. And it's sad, but I've been in there a couple times to pick up boxes or something when I'm in that town and there a55h0les to me now. So I get the boxes online now too.

Right now I'm down to 23 new titles. Given that I used to be at about 90, that's a very small sub list for me.
However, I do buy a lot of back issues. They're relatively cheap for anything post 1980, and even some 70's stuff. I just recently got the entire original run of Shang Chi (about 120 issues with team ups and annuals) for a little over $100. With that, last month I got about 140. Other months I might get no back issues but spend $100 on hardcovers and another $100 on trades and digests. How do you count those? Is a Showcase 20 comics or one?
So it varies a bit, from 30 to 200, with an average cost of $250-$300.

How can you guys spend so much? Don't you think you should save up some money?
What if there is a sudden crisis, and you've blown all your money on.....comic books.
Where do you think this is headed? If you continue to buy like this, what will your wallet and home look like in 5 years?

I'm fortunate enough to be earning a good wage at the moment. I can afford to spend my $200 a month, plus put a nice sum aside for savings as well.
Also, my spending is higher due to $2.99 comics costing $5.00 in Australia. Our dollar is worth about $0.75US.
A few years ago, during my "lean" years, I was spending maybe $50 a month.

I work in sales, I should clear the equivalent $45'000 this year, not bad for someone who only got a pass at university ;) . Bullshit just always seemd to come naturally to me so now I do it for a living! I think I'm worth it though, when I arrived at the company I work at they had no sales team and were generating £500'000 per year. So far this year I have booked £600'000 worth of business for them on top of existing income streams and there's still four months to go! :D

My scary scary pull list.....
Isn't that every book Marvel puts out in a month. Also you guys that have wives that read comics, where'd you find them? I am yet to meet a girl who has any interest in comics.
I subscribe to my books so I don't spend much in a month. A lot of this has to do with insufficient funds, and a lack of a comic store to look around in. When I had a job oh man did i spend way to much on comics, but now i am just a starvin' college student.

We make enough money, well over six figures combined, to provide us with a nice disposable income. I choose to spend my share of the entertainment budget on comics and related stuff.
We have plenty of savings and investment, and it's steadily growing. We'll be fine.
Also you guys that have wives that read comics, where'd you find them?
I converted mine, at least to some of the non-superhero oriented stuff such and the more complex writers like Alan Moore, Grant Morrison, and Neil Gaiman.

No I don't buy young avengers because it's dull
UFF because it's crap
Ultimates cause Hitch is a dick (made some ****ed up comments a few weeks ago)
and some of the titles are only there for the tie-ins
(new avengers is crap but I want the full stroy so...)
Also Devi, The sadhu and snakewoman are virgin comics not marvel :p

When I collected comics I would buy five issues or more a month. Some of them cost 3.00 each while others cost 10.00 and up. I mainly bought back issues though and the special edition ones with the hologram cards or covers.

I pick up about 30 or so Marvel titles a month. (including limited series and one-shots)
I'm really feeling it in my wallet too, since most of the comics are now $2.99 and up! I'm glad that my LCS gives me a decent discount!
