Silver Surfer Rises
For those following it, the Fantastic Four sequel has gotten a title makeover. The movie, which revolves around the superhero friends' battle with the Silver Surfer, will be called Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer. The film, in which Our Heroes battle the surfer and Dr. Doom for the salvation of Earth, is set for a June 2007 release. And in other superhero news: Apparently not satisfied just battling snakes on a plane, Samuel L. Jackson is letting it be known that he'd be into playing Marvel Comics superhero Nick Fury should that project hit the big-screen … Finally, X-Men star Ian McKellan is reportedly talking with director Brett Ratner about a role in the third Rush Hour movie. Also on Ratner's RH3 whiteboard: Seinfeld alum Michael Richards and … Roman Polanski. Guess they'd have to film in Europe.

it's nice that they're not going to try and do the whole Silver Surfer/Galactus story in one movie, but Doom and the Surfer might just be a little too much for one movie.

so long as it's as much fun as the first though it should be good.

Well I just hope that Doctor Doom will be more threatening and well used in the second film than he was in the first one.

He should be. Magneto wasn't all that threatening in the first X-Men movie and look what they did with him in the next 2.

Looking forward to FF2.

Jackson as Fury is kind of a no-brainer these days. Is there another character in comics right now that's actually drawn to explicitly resemble a specific actor (like Jackson/Fury in ULTIMATES)?

If you're going with the 616 universe, my choice would be Kurt Russell though.

I don't see how introducing one new character would be considered "a little too much for one movie"...

I would say Sean Penn but he may be a little young for the part.

Sean Penn would be a good choice for the regular Nick Fury, Ultimate Nick Fury's appearance was based on Sameul L. Jackson.

But that's because it had Bryan Singer and his people. The FF still has Tim Story and everybody else from the first FF movie. I seriously doubt the sequel will be any better then the first.

Does John Constantine count?

I actually *liked* Constantine. The only problem is that they adapted the wrong character, Harry Dresden, and changed his name.

Other then that it was a good movie.

I think Tim Russ, formerly of Star Trek: Voyager would make an interesting Norrin Radd/Silver Surfer. In terms of a film, Silver Surfer needs to be fully and properly introduced on his own, so that what happens when Galactus arrives, makes sense, and Galactus is such a vast concept, in terms of who/what he is, what/how he does things, that he needs a film on his own. We also need to see the arc of who the Surfer was, and who he becomes when he betrays Galactus.

I'm really glad that it's not going to be called FF2, or something numbered!

A few months ago CHUD had a few articles about a buddist director (forgot his name) to direct a Silver Surfer movie.

But after the FF movie hit it seems to have gone to limbo again.

I wonder if Sam Jackson reads The Ultimates, I know from here (http://www.comicbookresources.com/news/newsitem.cgi?id=5415) that he's a comic book reader and knows about the character, but I wonder if he actually reads the book.

He's an actor I'd actually *believe* loves comics. If he didn't read the Ultimates before, he probly does now.

Last time they botched Doom, let's hope they don't botch the Silver Surfer any worse.

I like the Silver Surfer to much to see how they'd screw him up.

Can't believe they messed up Doom. He's *easy* to do correctly.

Or, for that matter, why it's a good thing they aren't trying to tell the Galactus story in one movie? It was what, two issues of Fantastic Four? Not exactly an unfilmable epic.
