I know only some passing knowledge of Galactus, (cosmic force of nature, devourer of worlds, utimate Marvel baddie) but I have yet to read some good stories regarding him.

Can you guys suggest some trades collecting some great Galactus stories? Old or current, I dont mind. I'd just like to posess a little more knowledge regarding this Marvel icon.

Thanks.:)

TFan.

PS-I've notice a definate similarity between Galactus and Transformers nemesis Unicron. ;)

Try Essential Fantastic Four which reprints Fantastic Four. Galactus first appears in Fantastic Four #48-50.

Buy Fantastic Four Visionaries John Byrne volumes 1-4. Byrne's issues cover Frankie Raye's transformation into the Human Torch III then she volunteers to become Galactus herald when she eventually takes the name Nova. Nova is responsible for leading Galactus to the Skrull Throneworld to consume the planet; as a result, he sets the Skrull Empire in chaos & Majestrix Lillandra wants to execute Reed Richards for saving Galactus' life. Uatu, Odin, & Galactus come to Richards rescue.

One time he traded the earth for the ultimate nullifier, or something like that.

I don't know if it's been collected into a trade or not, but 'Galactus The Devourer' is a six-part miniseries from 2000 (I think). While it's not spectacular reading, it is...serviceable.

The 'FF Visionaries' trade that DDM mentioned is very good.

The only thing it did that has proven to be worthwhile was to introduce Red Shift, one of Galactus' heralds now currently appearing in ANNIHILATION.

It was meant to be the final (or maybe not final, I forget) arc of the old SILVER SURFER series, which was headed at the time by Louise Simonson and Mike Zulli. But the book was cancelled and thus this story was made into a mini. After Zulli dropped out after issue 1, John Buscema took over the art - and IIRC this was one of the last things he ever did for Marvel.

The Byrne Fantastic Four Visionaries are great. Bryne really knew how to write Galactus. Plus you get alot of Nova II and my favorite of the Hearlds Terrax.

Silver Surfer 70-75. The Hearlds Ordeal story.

Silver Surfer mini 1-4 and Annhilation 1.

Take a look at MARVELS #3. There's another one called "The Origin of the SIlver Surfer" that reprints FF 48-50.

The Essential FF's have a ton of big G apps. :p His origin was told in some THOR issues too, but I'm not sure all of them have been reprinted yet. Check the new Ess. Thor vol #3 out this week.

After that "Galactus the Devourer" story mentioned above he next appears in an FF ish, that was #50 before the re-numbering.
