For those of you who don't know me, I'm Derrick Ferguson and I'll be
your Editor-In-Chief at the AVENGERS2000 fan fiction site for the foreseeable future.
What does that mean, exactly? I dunno. You see, I've never been an Editor-In-Chief before so this is most certainly going to be a learning experience and one I hope we'll all enjoy together. So what makes you qualified to take over as Editor-In-Chief of one of the best loved and best respected fan fiction sites on The Internet? you may ask.
Well, go ask Gary Dreslinski since he was the one who
made me the offer. I knew he was sincere because he not only emailed
me but he called me on the phone as well. So he must think I can do
the job. Do I think I can do the job? Again, I dunno. Come back in
six months and we'll see if I'm still here and we can talk about it then.
I'm not entirely unfamiliar with fan fiction. I'm Executive Editor
over at DC Legends and I've written stuff for JLU2001, Marvel Omega,
Altered Visions and right here at AVENGERS2000. In a way, you could
say that my fan fiction career really didn't take off until I took
over AVENGERS (again, at Gary's request) because he wanted someone who
wasn't afraid to wrap up the plotlines left over from Alex Maggi's
run. Even though I had been writing fan fiction for a number of years
it didn't seem like I reached a wider audience until I started writing
AVENGERS. Suddenly I was getting email from readers commenting on how
much they were enjoying the series and I was being asked by nearly
half a dozen other fan fiction groups to please come and write
something for them.
So AVENGERS2000 has played a major role in me having whatever success
I enjoy in our fan fiction community and I'm happy to have the
opportunity to give something back to a site that is one full of
boundless talent and wonderfully creative storytellers.
What changes can you expect to see in the future? Not as many as you
might think. I'm a huge believer in the saying; "If It Ain't Broke,
Don't Fix It" and there's not a lot to be fixed at AVENGERS2000. My
primary goal at the moment is get some of the major titles back on
track with solid talent writing them. Once that's done, we'll see
where we go from there.
If you're a writer with that dream project you've always wanted to do,
get in touch with me. I don't care how far out or impossible to do
you think it is. Bring it to me and we'll work on it. Don't forget
that there's four other imprints in the AVENGERS2000 family so there's
plenty of room in the pool. Just don't be afraid to hold your nose
and jump in. Whatever it is you want to do, I'll do my damndest to
find a way for you to do it.
If you're a reader, tell me what you want to see. You got a favorite
writer you'd like to see writing here? Let me know. I can't
guarantee it'll happen but there's nothing preventing me from asking
them, is there? You have a favorite character you'd like to see more
of? Let me know and we'll see what we can do to get that character
some more exposure. You want crossovers? Major events? I won't know
what you want until and unless you tell me.
But my all means, let me know. I want to hear what you think could
improve AVENGERS2000. I want you to challenge me with your concepts
and your opinions. Give me work to do, people. I've got two email
addresses you can reach me at: DerrickFerguson@gmail.com or
DerrickFerguson1@aol.com
I'd advise you that if there's something you need a response on right
away that you use the AOL address as I check that at least three or
four times a day whereas the gmail address I only check once a day.
Okay, that's enough outta me for now. I've got a lot to do and only
so many hours in the day to do them. And now a special few hours out
of my day has to go toward the care and nuturing of AVENGERS2000.

One of the things that I've always noticed about a lot of fan fiction
sites is that the staff seems to be uncomfortable with promoting the
site, the stories and writers and I've never understood why. The
Internet is packed to bursting with fan fiction sites and writers all
competing for the time and attention of readers. You've got to do
something to stand out and entice readers to want to come to your site
and read your stories.
It's a big job and quite frankly it's too big for me. I'm already
working on bringing quality writers to the site to do stories for
AVENGERS SPOTLIGHT, which I consider one of the core titles of
Avengers2000 and that's a job in itself. So I've got somebody else to
do the promotion.
Welcome Tom Deja to Avengers2000. Now, I know what you're saying:
"Why welcome him since he's been writing IRON MAN here?" Well, not
only will Tom be continuing writing IRON MAN but he's also going to be
Minister Of Propoganda For Avengers2000. What does that mean? That
means you can expect to see the titles and writers of Avengers2000
showcased a lot more not only here but elsewhere as Tom has an
extensive background in marketing and promotion and he knows what he's
doing. But if you've been listening to his fan fiction podcasts
"Other People's Toys" you know that already.
Tom's also going to be wearing another hat: Director Of Special
Projects and we'll be discussing that later on....

Hello from the Avengers2000 Special Projects Laboratory.
You've all heard Derrick Ferguson make some reference to the first goodie being worked on
here in the Special Projects Lab. While I can't tell you outright what Meriades
Rai is working on outright, I can let you in on a couple of hints:
It's a thematic and spiritual sequel to one of the greatest Marvel miniseries
ever.
It features a large cast of some of very, very familiar faces...none of which
have ever had their own series.
It'll be released not monthly, not bi-weekly, but weekly.
It's going to give readers some fascinating insight into some characters.
It's going to change other characters irrevocably...
It's going to cause one of the heroes of the Av2K Universe to turn on his
friends and co-workers...and force one of them to take him down.
...and the build-up starts in the next issue of IRON MAN...
What is it? Can't say right now...but if I can quote a not-quite-beloved Mel
Gibson vehicle of the 90's....
It's time to root for the bad guys.
(And there's other great stuff coming--a flagship title will go bi-weekly as one
of the true greats of the fanfic community takes the readers on a wild spin, and
another major talent returns to av2K to write a sequel to one of his greatest
works...but that's for later)
Until next time...

I'm not familiar with Avengers2000 but I'm a writer and I've always dreamed of writing the Avengers. What are the criteria for signing up?
EDIT: Also, how much research should be done on the characters you are writing? I looked at the site and noticed that almost any title I'd write for currently has a writer. I was thinking about writing a "Wonder Man" mini though.

There's an amazing amount of creative growth and excitement here at AVENGERS2000 that has taken place in the last couple of weeks and I want to quickly squash one of the rumors that is going around our community: the new excitement that has taken place in AVENGER2000 is being attributed to me. Such is not the case. It really isn't.
The excitement was always there and it never left. AVENGERS2000 has always been on the forefront and the cutting edge of fan fiction reading, writing and now, through the percetive and informative reviews that have recently been posted by Brent Lambert, Ben Wolfert and Tony Thornely we're also becoming known as a site that has objective reviewers who aren't afraid to acknowledge the amazing talents writing at other fan fiction sites.
We've got titles such as IRON MAN, WARBIRD and our flagship title AVENGERS that have seen renewed energy. We've got exciting writers such as Dale Glaser who has begun writing SQUADRON SUPREME and Jason MacAskill who will soon be writing ALPHA FLIGHT. I don't know about you but I'm looking forward to reading every issue of those two titles right there.
Our two big events will be blowing the tops of your collective heads off soon: SUPERVILLAIN WAR by Meriades Rai will forever change the status quo of so-called 'second-class' supervillains in the AV2K Universe. ARMAGEDDON by Barry Reese is a cosmic adventure that I honestly don't think any other fan fiction writer active today could have attempted. Much less written. Trust me on this. I've seen what Barry has been doing. Cosmic is never going to be the same at AVENGERS2000 after ARMAGEDDON.
But besides that we've got the all-new MARVEL X imprint directed by Mike Rasbury, there's MAVERICK by John Bush and that's not half of what we've got planned as we work our collective moneymakers off to bring you the best in fan fiction reading that will excite and thrill.
Notice that my name was nowhere in all that. And there's a good reason for that. I'm just the guy who gets to be in on the inside of all this incredible good stuff that's going on here at AVENGERS2000. The writers just come to me and say: "Hey, can I do this here?"
And I say "Sure."
And then it happens.
So if you want to credit anybody with the new energy and creative surge at AVENGERS2000, then credit the writers. They're the ones who are working incredibly hard to write the stories you want to read with the heroes you love to read about.
Me? I'm just the middleman.

Welcome Back.
You know, we've generated a LOT of attention in the last few weeks for the Avengers 2000 family, and I think many people mistakenly believe that this is because of the kick-ass editorial stall El Excellente, Derrick Ferguson has put together.
And the simple fact is it's not true. We can bombard you will all sorts of new events and series and proclamations and it won't means crap on a crap stick unless we've got enough writers at the top of their game knocking themselves out to make Av2K The Premeire Marvel Fanfic Site.
And this last month, Derrick and I have been discussing a way to acknowledge the invaluble contribution our writers make to the site.
Which brings us to October 8th, and the beginning of The Writer's Spotlight Program.
Starting next Monday, and on the second week thereafter, we'll be devoting a week to highlighting the best work of the best writers Avengers 2000 has to offer. Much like our PENDRAGONS Week-long event, a different issue handpicked by that month's spotlighted writer will be represented. I encourage everyone to check these issues out, as they're the personal best of one of our stable of writers.
And I'm proud to anounce that the first Spotlighted Writer is one of the true unsung heroes of Av2K, Jeff Melton. For years, Jeff Melton has been quietly producing two titles I would put up against any title this site has produced, Invaders and 60's Avengers. That these two series are not more widely read and discussed is criminal, and I'm glad that we now have a chance to give readers a chance to discover (or re-discover) a truly cool writer who knows how to provide solid Silver-Age thrills.
It all begins on October 8th. Mark your calender.
(And wait until you see what we've got in store for The Supervillain War and Armageddon....it'll be a non-stop celebration)
Message ends.

There are these moments in time when the collective public will never get to the truth. These are the moments where everyone who was there had an angle, an entry point--but not one of these entry points matched up.
Sparta became one of those moments.
Yes, you could ask the higher profile participants in that dark day...except the Reverent Stryker is locked away in Ravenscroft, hopelessly insane and Charles Xavier...well, he always changes the subject.
You can ask the Summers family, but the parents have gone into hiding, and the sons....
We all saw what happened to the sons, even if we weren't there. For a time, we saw the aftermath on every news show in every market across the nation.
And the rumors of why and who and what were beind the events still persist, still move forward slowly, stubbornly. The whispers of an organization springing up in the wake of the tragedy determined to defend the normals, to be the Sentinels of what they consider humanity grow every day. And the quality of recruits that these Sentinels are garnering grow as the mutancy question continues to dominate the national debate.
We are becoming the minority, they say. We need to keep the mutts from overtaking us or we'll become curiosities.
But there's another whisper, another rumor.
A rumor of an altenrative to The Xavier Corporation's program...a rumor of a shadowy group composed of those mutants who can't live a normal life, a group that has decided to defend mutants, to give them space to grow and thrive as a community.
A group to end the threat of those who would wipe them out.
A group that has a name that spits in the face of the public face of mutancy, as a sign to the public at large that The World Is Going To Change, Whether You Like It Or Not.
...and if you can't handle it...get out of the way.

The official dossier paints a bleak picture. Cemetery skies, scurries of snowfall, ice packed hard underfoot. No one hears the crack of the sniper’s bullet; very few see the woman’s head snap back. It’s only after the fact that the crowds begin to gather round, wide-eyed, pointing in mute shock at the virgin white slowly darkening to scarlet where the victim has fallen.
Her name was Symira Rahman, SHIELD agent Alpha-Red-One-Eight, fieldname: Viper.
She was killed ten years ago to the day.
But now she’s back. And her message is one that chills me to the very heart.
"They say the world was built in seven days," the image of her on the screen declares softly. "I shall raze it to dust once more in six."
The meeting is arranged for 1030 hours this morning. Designates from all the major intelligence agencies will be there, representing their nations. They won’t like what I have to tell them - that the only hope we have lies with three individuals many of their governments would be happy to witness swinging from the gallows.
A bounty hunter of royal lineage, specialising in the tracking of war criminals and the recovery of lost treasures, often by illegal methods.
An ex-Cold War spy now adept at industrial espionage, high level identity fraud and the procurement and black market auction of military secrets.
And an assassin, available for hire by any faction regardless of creed, nationality or organisation, willing to murder in cold blood solely for financial gain.
Three individuals. Three fugitives. Three political timebombs.
Three women.
And, as of today, they’re all that stand between us… and the potential genocide of mankind.

Last year we started a tradition at Pendragons with our first Pendragons

(and in order to get you warmed up for the upcoming Avengers 2000 Awards
that are being discussed right now), Pendragons is kicking of with the
Second Annual Platinum Dragon Awards. Yes, I've given them a name...
Moving swiftly on, this last year at Pendragons has seen a lot of titles
from a lot of names and a lot of series coming forwards. As last year, it is
a write-in format for the nominations so please send your three favourites

Not long ago – maybe a day or so – I posted the official announcement about the
Vengies,
the big AV2K awards. A few of you were even prompt enough to have already sent
in
votes (and much love for that!). But now, we've hit a bump in the awards
road...
Fortunately...it is a *happy* bump. It is my pleasure to announce that after
some behind-
the-scenes discussion, the Pendragons branch will be merging its awards ceremony
with
the Vengies, so that all AV2K imprints will now be voting and awarding like one
big,
highly-competitive family! I do apologize to those of you who have set the
responsiveness
bar so high by already turning in votes – expect a personalized e-mail from me
shortly
regarding any possible adjustments you might want to make in your ballots.
Also, in performing this awards-merge, we realized that David Wheatley had far
more
categories of awards on the Pendragons slate than what the lazy-assed Vengies
voting
committee (ie., me) had been planning on tabulating. However, David was
ultra-candid in
revealing that most of those categories weren't exactly getting lit up by
respondents, so
our solution has been to incorporate the one category here that *was* getting a
proper
amount of play: that of Favorite Issue. Therefore, for all Vengies voting,
please consider
the work from *all* imprints, and the categories shall be as follows:
Favorite Writer
Favorite Title
Favorite Hero
Favorite Heroine
Favorite Villain
Favorite Team
Favorite Story Arc
Favorite Issue
And I thought it best to repeat the verbiage about the two new "special" awards
that
Derrick concocted...the first is the Jarvis Award of Excellence -- this is to be
viewed as a
sort of "Hall of Fame"-ish prize, and anyone voting should select *one* writer
from the
halls of AV2K-dom, past or present, to be held up as the epitome of all that is
good and
fine in a fanfic writer. Essentially, pick your favorite writer to ever have
placed even a
single issue at any of the imprints at AV2K since the dawn of the internet. You
can pick
someone who's been retired now for five years, or someone who posted nothing
beyond a
two-page one-shot, it doesn't matter -- as long as they posted a work of fanfic
at AV2K
*ever*, they're eligible. The second award has been dubbed the Platinum Avenger
Award,
and is basically the same as the Favorite Writer award -- meaning, voting
centers only on
writers who have produced work in the past year -- with the crucial difference
being that
this award is voted on *only by AV2K staff* -- a jury of writers' peers, in a
sense. In other
words, if you don't work for AV2K, you don't vote on the Platinum Avenger Award
-- and if
you do work for AV2K, you can feel free to select the same writer for the
Favorite Writer
and the Platinum Avenger Awards, or two different writers, it's completely up to
you. I'm
sure many people *will* end up duplicating their choices, but it is also
possible to
approach it with the idea that Favorite Writer is for whomever brought you the
most sheer
enjoyability as a reader, while the Platinum Avenger Award goes to whichever
author
released work that most pushed your "writer buttons," made you analyze what
they were doing and how they did it, and taught you something about the craft of
writing...your call, really.
Which leads us to...what to vote on? Below is a list of all eligible issues (the
entirety of
2006 releases). The various imprints listed below will be competing against each
other
directly, as it makes no sense to conduct separate awards for, say, the MX
imprint, which
saw only two issues released all year. Therefore, MX work will square off
against Other
Worlds, which will grapple with Pendragons, which will take on main imprint work
-- you
(hopefully) get the idea. So...the issues that will be included in this year's
Vengies voting
are:
AV2K Main Imprint:
Alpha Flight 23-25
Amazing Spider-Man 1-4
Armageddon 1-5
Avengers 28-30, Annual 1
Avengers Spotlight 21
Avengers Team-Up 2

Other Worlds:
60's Avengers 26-32
Dansen Macabre 6

parameters yet
again...thanks, everyone! Now please go getcher vote on!

It has been a bit publicized here and there that we didn't get what could
exactly be called
a staggeringly high number of votes in this, our inaugural year of AV2K awards.
*However*...that is not to say that a lack of quantity means a lack of quality
in terms of
close and exciting races. For those of us who got to watch the results (slowly)
unfold --
meaning basically Derrick and myself -- there were some extremely tight races,
and in
one category, we even have a tie. So without further ado, I give you the
winners of the
first annual Vengies:
1) FAVORITE WRITER -- a few people got their names in the book with a vote
apiece, and
there were also clear silver and bronze medal-winners in this one, but
outdistancing them
all, and nearly beating the combined vote-count of everyone else put together
was our
own Danse-ing, Macabre-ing, Regenerating, Super-Villain Warring...MERIADES RAI!
Please
give the man a hand! Meri hit the scene hard this past year at AV2K, and
continues to do
so, bringing technical skill, oustanding characterization, and intriguing story
ideas with
him to every series he touches. Thanks for all the good reads, Meri, you
couldn't have
deserved it more!
2) FAVORITE TITLE -- speaking of Meri...again, we had a smattering of
single-vote getters,
and a tie for a distant second place between FANTASTIC FOUR and SUPER-VILLAIN
TEAM-
UP, but the clear winner and champeen here is the action-packed, energetic epic
that
spreads the antagonist-love like nobody's business: SUPER-VILLAIN WAR! This is
a
dynamite series, and Meri not only pays homage to a veritable cornucopia of
under-used
old bad guys, but also manages to tell a cracking good tale in the process. If
you're not
reading this one, I pronounce thee "chump"...
3) FAVORITE HERO -- a *much* tighter race in this category. Lots of single-vote
recipients, and a pair of two-fers, but we finished with a photo-finish too
tight to
call...which means, ladies and gentlemen, we have a tie! Here, the Vengie goes
to the
wildly disparate heroes, THE RED SKULL (Derrick Ferguson's original creation
headlining
his own title in the Other Worlds imprint) and the more cosmic ROCKET RACCOON,
bandit-
masking his way through Barry Reese's ARMAGEDDON. Odd to note that none of the
more
"traditional" Marvel heroes really made a serious grab for the prize here...
4) FAVORITE HEROINE -- okay, and now we come to the single biggest landslide to
be
found throughout our little competition. Nowhere else did anyone so run away
with an
award -- talk aboutcher "escape velocity" (thanks, folks, I'm here all week --
try the pot
roast!). By our widest margin anywhere in the contest, the clear, clear winner
is...WARBIRD! Carol Susan Jane Danvers cleaned clocks all over this category,
in no small
part due to the excellent work turned in by Josh Reynolds, who chronicles
Carol's
adventures in fine style in her own solo title. Great work, Josh, you earned
this one...
5) FAVORITE VILLAIN -- the category with the greatest number of
entries...hopefully this is
a sign that almost *all* the villains at AV2K are well-rendered! Nevertheless,
there can be
only one winner, and the man who strode (or flew) off with the coveted Vengie
here
was...the Wingless WIZARD. Check out the stellar portrayal of the leader of the
Frightful
Four (many Frightful Fours, actually) over in SUPER-VILLAIN TEAM-UP. It's
outstanding
character work, and definitely worthy of the award. Congratulations to Doc
Fiction for
doing such a bang-up job with an often underrated villain!
6) FAVORITE TEAM -- the Avengers, the Squadron Supreme, and the FF all made runs
at it,
but the prize in this category goes to the oddball assemblage of heroes known as
the
AVENGERS WEST COAST -- Barry Reese and Tom Deja both had their hands in the mix
here, and the results were apparently to the liking of AV2K assembled. Well
done, gents,
and good wishes for continued success to Tom, as he takes the baton from Barry,
and
brings the team into 2007...
7) FAVORITE STORY ARC -- once again, the mighty SUPER-VILLAIN WAR blew doors on
all
other contenders. The story is still unfolding, so if you haven't yet done so,
catch up on
what's occurred to date, and then strap yourself in extra-tight for Meri's
high-octane
proceedings. You will *not* be sorry you did!
8) FAVORITE ISSUE -- a tougher category, and not everyone could pick out a
single issue
from the masses...but one issue did manage to rise up from the pack, and that
was the
extra-celebratory, landmark offering, PENDRAGONS #100. Props to David Wheatley
for the
big accomplishment, along with contributors Joseph Connell, Dave Evans, Gary
Jones, and
Barry Reese (who especially deserves added kudos for such a long run on the
title). Nice
job all the way around, men!
9) THE JARVIS AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE -- again, please clap y' hands for his
prolific-ness,
Mr. BARRY REESE. If there's a fanfic site, you can almost bet Barry's written
something
there, and if he hasn't...it might not be a fanfic site. AV2K is no exception,
and not only
did Barry write more issues than anyone else this past year, he's also got the
backing of
the throngs of readers out there. Congratulations, Barry -- and don't spend so
much time
polishing your Vengies that you neglect that WARRIORS book! And I also would
feel remiss
if I didn't pass along honorable mention to the honorable Des Davies, who made
almost as
fine a showing as Barry in the voting, and has gifted the site with not only his
invaluable
webmastering over the years, without which none of us'd be here, but has also
given us
long runs on key titles like WARBIRD and the flagship AVENGERS book, as well as
his own
UNION, a very interesting team book featuring a cast of European heroes all of
Des's own
creation. Thanks for everything, Des, you're as "Jarvis-ly" excellent as
anyone!
10) THE PLATINUM AVENGER AWARD -- a final time -- please give it all up for Mr.
MERIADES RAI! 2006 bore witness to a veritable Meri-storm, and not only did the
readers
love it (see: FAVORITE WRITER), but so did the writers (see: uh, this award!).
Meri didn't
just tell good stories this past year -- he told them *well*, and that's what
the Platinum
Avenger is all about. Metaphorical hats off to you, Mr. Rai! You entertained
us all year,
and you made AV2K proud. You set a fine standard for the rest of us to aim for
in '07, and
we all appreciate it...
And that's about that for this year, folks. Thanks for coming, and don't forget
those
complimentary gift-bags on your way out (and please be careful with the pumpkin
bombs
and cosmic cubes -- Jarvis has enough to do without cleaning up after your
bungling,
y'know...). See you all next year (or maybe later today, but...),

For some time I’ve been looking at the inactive titles on the DC HEROES site and within the LEGACY branch of AVENGERS 2000 and wondering what could be done with them.
Today you see the answer I came up with – the “Comic Book Fanfiction TREASURY” – http://treasury.ironrodstudio.com
I will be continuing to make changes to the site to provide a more unified look, which the individual issues don’t currently have. You might also notice that there are more titles under the Marvel Treasury than were housed at the Legacy branch. I’m pleased to have added the following to it:
From Bob Gansler – his two Dark Lore series: Master of Kung Fu and Vampire Tales
and
From Ralph Angelo, Jr. – his entire body of MV1 work , including Spider-man, Captain Marvel and his Avengers 2009 / 2011 mini-series.
I’m not adverse to adding additional sites to the Treasury, or additional titles to the existing sites. I have a complete copy of the Dark Lore site, but I’d need a good weight of previous writers from the site to okay that before it went up. Let me know if you would like your inactive titles added there. However, note the “inactive” tag. The Treasury will not be home to titles that are currently being written.
Enjoy!
