BKV loves his words.
In this aftermath issue, Victor and Nico share a not so special moment together while Molly discusses Heaven with Leapfrog. Xavin makes his declaration to Karolina and planet Earth. A new villian arises that the kids should have a tough time beating. Lastly, Chase makes a move against one the former Nu Pride members.
Thoughts- Knowing that Chase rejoins the team, because of the Civil War Tie-in, takes some of the coolnes out of the Chase incident yet I'm still intrigued to know what doesn't go right. Everybody seems to be set up for a maturity spurt after this arc. Nico's revelation about herself. Molly's accepting of a friends death. Chase's new reality without Gert.

Can you fill me in one some of the details West?
You're kinda vague.
1.Are you saying Nico and Victor slept together?
I thought that's what the preview pages were implying.
2.Who's this new villian?
3.Xavin's declaration?

Sorry about the vagueness, I got the issue early and wanted people to have something to read.
1. Yeah they did.
2. It's a giant monster. Funny situation involving Starbucks and an old man!
3. Xavin pledges to protect Earth with the Runaways.

Great conversations in this issue, plus Mike Norton did a wonderful job on the art.

just got my copy! Loved it!
I loved the art just as much as the regular art.
The scene with Molly and the Leap Frog was nice. I'm one of the very few that LIKES what happened between Nico and Vic. I'd like to see them as the new Gert and Chase. And Molly's line "Yes! It's Cobbering Time!" - Now where is that from, I know it, but it's on the tip of my tongue, lol.

Actually, we don't know that for sure. We know they did something, but we don't know what that something was.

Good issue. I still miss Gert, and that opening scene with her "funeral" was gutwrenching. The scene between Molly and the Leapfrog was cute (especially the Leapfrog's shifty eyes). Chase seems to be pulling an Anakin Skywalker. I'm very curious as to what he wants with Lotus...is he going to lead The Pride 3.0?
Actually, we don't know that for sure. We know they did something, but we don't know what that something was.
It wasn't that ambiguous. Nico said she "ran into the arms of the nearest warm body," which we've seen her do with Alex, Topher, and later Chase. If she did have sex with Victor, it would be perfectly in keeping with what we've seen of Nico's character so far. I don't think it'll turn out that Victor "initiated" a "cheap" game of Yatzhee or anything like that.

can we have a real summary?

Ok, I didn't mean for this to be so long but once I got started I couldn't stop.
Prologue: Flashback to a few months ago where the runners are burying Future Gert. Everyone is sad but Gert says they shouldn't be because it wasn't really Gert, just some woman from the future claiming to be her. Nico suggests finding Victor and help send him in a different direction, Chase is out for revenge because Future Gert died in his arms.
"Do you know what it's like to feel the freakin' life slip out of someone?"
Gert reminds Chase that she does, when Chase drowned in season/volume 1. Chase remarks that Gert saved his life that time and now he's gonna save hers, even if it means killing someone. Gert says Chase can "scorch the earth" avenging her when she does die (foreshadowing?), but for now they should give Vic the benefit of the doubt.
Close up on Gert
"Apparently, I've still got an annoyingly long life to live"
Flash forward to the present day in Nico's room in the hostel. Nico is under the covers sitting up and Victor is sitting on the side of the bed fully dressed. Nico says that nobody can know about this and comments on how whenever she's scared she "runs into the arm of the nearest warm body" (Let's see, there's Alex, Topher, Karolina, Chase and now Victor :p )
Victor reminds her that he initiated it, not because he was scared but because he likes her. Or at least he would've said he likes her but she cuts him off.
They get back to talking about Gert and Nico starts crying while reminiscing. Victor hugs her to comfort her, end of scene.
Cut to Molly holding Gerts glasses talking with Leapfrog. Molly asks Leapfrog if Gerts soul is in heaven. Leapfrog says it doesn't know but after being insulted by Molly, fakes a software update and confirms that Gert is in heaven. Molly then asks if her parents are there but Leapfrog says she should ask Chase. Molly tells Leapfrog that Chase and Old Lace are gone and they don't know if they are coming back.
Then there's a scene with Xavin and Karolina, where Karolina asks if Xavin can be happy on Earth. Xavin says he/she/it can be happy whereever Karolina is and vows to make Earth a better place.
Then an ex-cop goes to an antique store to sell an artifact. He took a "tchotchke" from one of the Prides hideouts when he was still on the force and is now selling it. He hands it to the store owner but he's not interested. The cop needs cash bad and asks the store owner what he wants. The owner, holding the tchotchke says "I want everything to be like it used to." The store owner then starts fwaashing into a demon/monster/alien thingy. We only see him mid-transformation (where he's like a cloud with teeth) and the his shadow over the cop where he shouts in some alien/demon language.
Back at the Hostel, Victor is using the police scanner and hears that all the Starbucks in town are being smashed by "something awful". Nico thinks they should sit this one out but everyone else seems excited to get out and do something other than mope around the hostel. Nico says they can't go anyway, because only Chase knows how to pilot Leapfrog. Xavin asks if the "house android" can fly it. Victor retorts that he's "not their slave, Gender-Bender" :D but he is a fast learner.
Cut to Vic flying the Leapfrog rather erratically. After some bouncing around Vic end up flying (upside-down) towards an angry looking, skyscraper-sized, pink, horned monster amidst smoking building.
Epilogue: Chase (with the Abstract) and Old Lace confronting Lotus (from the Nu Pride) in a parking lot. Chase has been checking up on the Nu Pride. Stretch got committed to an insane asylum, Hunter joined the Peace Corps but then asks why Lotus, instead of dealing with the blood on her hands, just went back to her day job. Lotus says to Chase that he can't kill her, because she was tricked by Wilder. Chase then says he's not gonna kill her, he's gonna hire her.
"You work for us now"
To be continued...

Another great issue, this title never disapoints! The last scene with Chase, Old Lace and Lotus was great!

This was a great issue. Everybody dealing with Gert's death in there own way. It's interesting that Molly, the youngest, is probably the one who reacted the most maturely.
And what exactly is Chase planning with Lotus? "Hiring" her?

I'm certain that we'll learn more about Chase's plans next issue, although you can be sure that BKV will throw plenty of twists still......;) :D

I thought the Molly and frog scene was great also. Are some of the runaways at least 18 or are they promoting sex at an early age? Hopefully Xavin puts lucy in her place since she doesn't seem to be able to accept fpr physically being who he is.

Since the team is soon to be out of a glove person I suggest two words for a replacement: Southpaw
Besides Squirrel Girl is just too much for this team. If you catch my drift. :D

You don't promote underage sex. That's like promoting money.

Yes, and then her profile will read "Granddaughter of a lawyer."

I think it's better if Xavin stays on earth, considering most of -if not all- the Skrulls have been wiped out by the Annihilation Wave in 'Annihilation'.
I'd love to see a future issue of 'Runaways' that touches on it once that event is over, depending on WHEN 'Annihilation' takes place. I mean, hey, we could use a new Super Skrull... if you know what I mean.

Chase is almost 18. Nico and Karolina should be 17 soon, and Molly is or is about to turn 12.
They arn't promoting sex at an early age. Vaughan was purposefully vauge on what they did, which would mean a few things:
1. They didn't have sex. There is just as much reason to think they didnt have sex as there is to think they did.
2. Vaughan was vauge, and when Vaughan is vauge on something, there is always a chance that he is waiting to use the specifics later on. Personally, I'm not going to jump to conclusions untill we have the end of Dead Means Dead and the remaining arcs in this mega-arc (if he is indeed doing another 18-issue mega-arc.)
3. Even if they did have sex, BKV isn't promoting it. It didn't fix anything or make either of them feel better, or help them get over their pain. In fact, it just made it worse for Nico.
And, finally...
4. Whether or not they had sex, what they did isn't the point right now. The entire involvement with Victor was made to get Victor's feelings for Nico into play, and to give Nico a character-changing moment by coming to terms with a problem she has. I doubt we'll be seeing Nico kiss anyone for awhile.
Also, now that she has started to figure herself out emotionally, maybe she will become a better leader.
And I hope Vaughan doesn't use this to make Nico become pregnant. That would be jumping the shark and alienate a huge amount of readers.

If you think about it in a way since Victor really isnt human it is like Nico being with a vibrat@#%.

Well, to be fair, Xavin is the one who initiated the relationship and keeps doing so. He knows Karolina is gay, and he's the one who made the choice to appear as female.

That could have something to do with even at her age, children have problems grasping exactly what death is.
Sometimes it doesn't hit them for months, years before they know that it means they never see that person again.

Well, he knows the New Pride was able to pluck Alex's dad out of time. Maybe he thinks he can find a way to bring Gert back? If vengeance isn't his MO, I can't think of anything else he'd be driven to do.

Anyway, my point is this: the kids having sex to get over Gert's death doesn't really work for me, as everydayman elucidated (thanks).
Who said the kids had sex?!?! Get your mind out of the gutter!

That's a very good question......
And I guess you'll have to keep on reading RUNAWAYS to find out......;)
Although.........I'm wondering IF the 'Frog could possibly (and I do mean possibly) have any connections with the Smartship Friday {From POWER PACK}......

Guess it's good that Vaughan was being vague. I noticed that they were fully clothed, and Victor wasn't even under the covers, so it's open to interpretation (contrast that with, say, the Teen Titans Annual from a few months ago).
Still...I'd like to think they did it :evilsmile
As bad as it is, Xavin cracks me up. Well, I'm looking forward to seeing Chase's plan unfold.
