I've just finished reading this, and I enjoyed it a lot, perhaps even moreso than I have any other Punisher title. What would be some good comic books with similar elements (gritty protrayal of war, lack of superpowered characters), from any publisher?

I really enjoyed Daredevil vs Punisher: Means and Ends.. I am going to check out that series you just mentioned by the way. D vs P really made me crave Punisher (being my only series featuring Punisher as the headliner) I want more!

- Unknown Soldier (Garth Ennis; Killian Plunkett; 4 issues; DC Vertigo)
- War Stories (Garth Ennis and various; 8? issues; DC Vertigo)
- Preacher Special: One-Man's-Army #1 (Garth Ennis and Peter Snejbjerg; One-Shot; DC Vertigo)
Ah... the time when Garth Ennis used to write good comic books...
- Fury (Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson; 6 issues; Marvel MAX)
- Fury: Peacekeeper (Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson; 6 issues; Marvel)
"Fury" was entertaining and "Peacekeeper" was dreck IMO. But maybe you'll like it.
Dang! Is Garth Ennis the only one to write war books these days?!
- Iron Ghost (Chuck Dixon and Sergio Cariello; 6 issues; Image)
It was like the Shadow meets Punisher. Nice.

I'd check out Punisher:The Tyger, as well as Ennis' War Stories, v1 & v2. As well, maybe The 'Nam.

Probably, but that's ok with me. In my opinion he's the best at it.
He recently started what looks to be an ongoing (couldn't be sure) called Battler Britton. Set during WWII, it tells of American and British fighter pilots thrown together and butting heads while trying to defeat the enemy at the same time.

I'm wondering which of the Punisher Max graphic novel should I buy?
Which one do you recommend? I don't really care too much about the story but want to see some gore fest, oh and I've heard that there are some nudity in some of them, can anyone tell me which Max volume DOESN'T contain "that!?"
Or which one contains the LEAST amount. Cause my younger brother likes the Punisher as well.
Thanks for replying.

Agree 100% with this. Best Punisher story I've read in a looong time.

Joe Kubert just finished his newest Sgt. Rock mini-series over at DC; I imagine it'll get collected into a TPB before year's end. He also did a Vertigo Sgt. Rock story with Brian Azzarello called Between Hell and a Hard Place.
If you wanna go a little further off the beaten path, there's a series of British graphic novels called Charley's War, set during WWI, published by Titan Books (www.titanbooks.com). Ennis is a big fan of it. It's quite good.

I'm thinking of getting the Punisher Max: Volume One.
Can anyone tell me if it's good?
I've got "Welcome Back Frank" and loved it.

Also try "Just a Pilgirm" I think the first series was better than the second, but they both were very good.

I don't know if Loveless technically makes the cut here, but it is a gritty portrayal of war (the Civil War) and there certainly aren't any characters with superpowers. And the Light Brigade was a good war comic, too, although there are heavy supernatural elements.

volume 1 and volume 4 would probably be your best bet to fill those criteria.
...but dude, get a life.
