View Full Version : New Draw-Off : Bows n' Arrows (deadline Sept 5th)

Jaye
08-14-2006, 09:44 AM
The latest draw off is... Create an image with a character who uses a bow and arrow.

Any medium ok.
Color, pencil, black and white, its all acceptable.
Paint, ink, craypas, computer graphics all fine.
Whatever pleases you most.
No photography allowed.

Post your creation in this thread, the width no larger than 550 pixels.

Themes and contents all up to you, it just needs to have some person with a bow and arrow in it... Robin Hood, Green Arrow, Hawkeye, a crossbow hunter, an archery tournament, whatever you can imagine.

Past winners are welcome to submit.

A poll will be posted upon close of this thread: September 5th.
Poll will be up for a week, then the winner announced.
In the event of a tie, the final vote will be cast by mods.

Prize: Winner gets to choose one out of three comics to be mailed to them as a prize. I'll PM the comic list to the winner when the poll closes.

Any questions, post them here or send me a private message.

Go create.

The challenge is "Create an image with a character who uses a bow and arrow" so if I decided to draw Hawkeye could I draw him without his bow?

He uses one even if he hasn't got it on him in my picture.

Sorry, its gotta have the bow and arrow. But if you have an existing drawing to share and not enter it, we'd love to see.

As long as the art is 100% yours (your photos, etc) then photoshop is fine. Digital art is often entered, but remember it has to be yours beginining to end.

Thanks.

Can you clarify the ruling on photographs?

I was going to draw my charcter, but use a photo with a paint filter for the background.

If the backgrpund is a "no go" - I'll just drop the idea and submit the character without it.

can it be an homage pose, say the original pose was Green Arrow, but I used shaft from Youngblood instead?*

*Just for example, I probably wouldn't draft Liefeld's character Shaft.

Scanned mine, started coloring . . and have played around with the photo brackground and different filters, but can't get it to look the way I want it.

If you use a Mike Grell GA pose, you stand a pretty good chance of having it actually look like archery (unlike anything Liefeld ever did)....

I'm new to this whole "show off your artwork!" thing, lol, and it's great because you see that not everything is just pencils+photoshop. Howyadoin: Do I even need to say it? Beautiful. The textures are super-duper.

Ankale: I agree about the excellent compsition. The pic seems to have tons of movement. Neat-o style too.

Winslow: You drew a background. A REAL background. For this you earn super mega bonus points from me. Love the horse and colors, but isn't the buffalo a little small? Is he just a baby? Nobody should hurt baby buffalo :(

Tre: Nice colorscheme. Very unusual. I love the glowy parts and that in all your art you are able to keep a consistent style. That's so hard to do!

Troy: The perspective looks awesome. I love the soft coloring style too. Looks like a children's story-book picture (sorry if that's not the look you intended it to have, but I love it).

In about three seconds she's gonna get crossbowed in the face. Yep. Right in her ugly face. I hope he rips her to pieces. Anyway, I was gonna draw the next scene but since nipples weren't allowed, I'm betting slaughtered centaurs aren't either... So...

I used a lot of matte and gradient shading to contrast the few areas of detailed coloring I wanted to do.

Things I like about it: Shinies! Furry hooves! Rosy noseys and cheeks! Crinkly hairsies!

Things I don't like about it: Ugliness!

Detail shots for the heck of it:

I drew the Buffalo independent of the horse and archer, and I think I made a perspective error when I placed him in front and closer to the point of view, and then failed to make it bigger.

Alas.

And I cheated on the background, I use a photo from my recent vacation to Montana and colored over it. But I'll take the bonus points anyway. ;)

I was only a little frustrated with my drawing.

But he really IS gonna shoot her in the face and slaughter her, and I really DO have sketches of it. It seems romantic because I bet she's in love with him or something. She prolly wont even fight back because she knows it's something she could do for him to make him happy since he's not capable of loving her back. It's the closest to being a part of his life that she'll ever get, so she'll take it <333
