To which Jim Corrigan are you referring? That's the main question.

What the....?

When did Corrigan become a crooked cop? The original was always a crooked cop, which basically lead to his early death via drowing in a barrel of cement.

The original was always a crooked cop, which basically lead to his early death via drowing in a barrel of cement. Why does everyone say that? In John Ostrander's stories, Jim Corrigan was one of the few honest cops on the force, which is why Gats Benson wanted him out of the way. Was Corrigan sometimes ruthless, like other cops of the era? Yes. But did he ever have any desire other than to take down the bad guys? No.

Yes nothing says that he was crooked that i now of, not in the original from the 40s or Ostranders work at least.
What happened was that a snitch set a trap for him to be captured by criminals and killed, because he was a threat for them.

The current Corrigan... was it because of Superboy Prime's Mighty Retcon Punch?

There is no current Corrigan? he found peace at last, being replaced with the awful Hal Jordan Spectre that almost ruined the character to me.

Talk about hack writers behind that, i know that it's not easy to top Ostranders Spectre but they could have least tried to.

There is a corrupt cop named Jim Corrigan in Gotham Central, but he's not the Spectre Jim Corrigan. They set up the confusion on purpose though. (I don't know why.)

The original Corrigan was very brutal, but that was also more allowed back then. And he wasn't corrupt. Knocking in a crook's teeth isn't corrupt. There was also the bit with helping a woman he was in lust with beat a murder rap, but he paid for that too.

They were competing for the 'World's clumsiest and most shameless red herring' award.

I thought it was a clever idea. It put fans in mind of the Spectre, even though the title was a bat-book. When Crispus became host, it didn't seem so out of the blue.

Oh, come on! It was a guy called JIM CORRIGAN showing up just when rumors of a new Spectre popped up. As far as tricking the audience, this trick is on the same level as "LOOK LOOK OVER THERE!" and then running away.
