Hopefully this means a release date sometime in '07 or '08. '08 would be nifty since it would be the 50th anniversary of Silver Age Flash...

I think Flash has the potential to be a good superhero movie franchise. He's got the bad guys, powers that can be translated to some stong visuals and the character is pretty fun. Reynolds seems like a solid pick for Wally. He also has one of the best superhero costumes.

Plus the character's had some sucess in a TV series.

The movie could also help Reynolds break out of the college comedy genre better than "Amityville" and "Blade Trinity".

Wow, I love Ryan Reynolds' movies AND I love the Flash so this would be wicked if it all panned out! If played right, keeping the mood of the Johns' Flash run it'd be a real quality flick. Johns and Goyer collab-ing in some way wouldn't be a stretch since they have history with JSA and whatnot...

I remember that there was one character on the show that I loved to pieces.
I am talking about that cute golden retriever dog who provides comedy relief.
I am talking about Big Earl Allen.
He was the dog that was very good on trying to tell people about his owner, who is a superhero, but sometimes his owner, Flash/Barry Allen has to distract him.
He is also good at telling his owner on the baddies as if to say: That is a baddie, Barry.
I will tell you that I am the only one who can understand what Big Earl is saying, being that I can speak doggie.
If you do not believe me, then mosey down to your local video store and get The Flash TV Show On DVD.
You will really laugh and cry and love Big Earl to Pieces.

That's a damn good suggestion! His typical movie personality is a PERFECT match with Wade! That wouldn't suck at all...

I dont know if I buy it. Ryan Reynolds has been rumored to be up for the part, but that whole site seems to be speculation.

That's been the word since shortly after the theatrical release of Batman Begins. WB had given The Flash to David Goyer, and he wanted Ryan Reynolds in the lead. Haven't heard much else since.

That news is pretty old, they have been saying Ryan Reynolds' name forever but nobody knows if he'll do it or if the script for Flash is even finished. You hear Ryans name alot when it comes to superhero movies, I heard he was a top choice to play Deadpool if they ever make that movie.

Personally, I think the only way Reynolds would work is if this is supposed to be set around the time of Waid's run. He couldnt do Barry or Jay, and he couldnt do Wally as an actual adult like he was during John's run, but he could do the immature jerk/celebrity that Waid wrote. That being said I think it would be a big mistake to cast him as the flash, anyway.

I think if I was gonna cast a Flash movie, I would start with Barry Allen as Th Flash, introduce Iris as his girl, and Wally as a nephew. That hurts me to say, because Wally West is my favorite comic book character of all time. So, I think I would cast the following....

Barry Allen/The Flash- Timothy Olyphant (A good actor, who while may not be a dead ringer in the face for Barry Allen, I could see him playing the part.)

Iris West- You can cast any generic, decent, 30ish actress to play this part...I don't really have a prefrence.

Wally West- Rory Culkin (Say whatever you will about his brother, Rory Culkin is not him. Rory Culkin is a superb young actor, watch Mean Creek, and can play the sometimes angsty younger Wally West, who will one day take over the mantle.)

Captain Cold- Robin Williams (He looks like Cold, he can play sinister, and he has drama chops, no matter what anybody says. Robing Williams is Captain Cold.)

I can't wait for this movie. Flash would probably be on my list for DC heroes that I like. Batman is my number 1 DC though.

If there was any truth to those rumors about Reynolds playing Wally West my guess is they're dead now, given that Wally is no longer the headlining Flash in the comics.

He's been wanting that role. I read an interview with Reynolds awhile back and he says he's always pushing for that role of Deadpool. That he's waiting on them to get things rolling for it.

Now about Flash , no clue. Goyer likes him and I think the 2 really clicked on Blade: Trinity pretty much. So if Goyer gets a project , he's gonna go to Reynolds.

Now this to me is actually good news. Goyer's scripts can be made into entertaining films, but the director needs a firm hand. I reckoned the debacle of Blade III just proved he'd been taking too much credit for the previous two films. You can tell del Toro just kept throwing out his scripts until he delivered something closer to his vision. He just needs to be a little less indulgent with his writing.

And to never sit in a director's chair again.

This probably means that Reynolds might be off the project as well. Then again, if I remember correctly Brandon Routh was one of either Ratner's or MCG's finalists to play Superman, and that carried over to Singer as well.

Anyone else think this and Whedon leaving Wonder Woman has anything to do with Superman Returns not doing as well as expected?

That and however long they were taking to get the scripts out. But yeah, seems WB aren't playing around anymore. And Goyer's still on the Batman Begins sequel, right? So its not like he's out of work.

Goyer on Flash intrigued me more than Whedon on WW, but I was just hoping they got a good director instead of having Goyer do double duty. The guy's a great idea man, but left to execute his own said ideas, they kinda fall short.

Reynolds would be pretty bad as either Flash or DP.

Also, I'm very, very glad that Goyer is off of this movie. Flash needs a real director.

Don't see how. It's not like they cancelled the projects entirely (like they reportedly did for the proposed Black Widow movie after a string of underperforming, female-led actioners). Presumably they're still committed to making the films. They just decided they didn't like what they were getting from Goyer and Whedon. No big deal, really. Happens all the time in Hollywood.

I think Reynolds stepped away fromt he project a while ago. This is another film that WB will have a hard time getting made just like WW. Like I've said before, make GL into a sci-fi franchise.

I've seen both of Goyer's previous directorial attempts and neither of them showed much potential. He's a fine writer, but he's not much of a director from what I've seen. I don't blame WB for getting cold feet about giving millions upon millions of dollars to gamble.

Because that would be so much easier to pull off? The odds of a Green Lantern movie (at least one that would be recognizeable to comics fans) getting made are infinitely longer than Wonder Woman or Flash.

It's in development for a CW series called the 'The Corps'. I just think that something like that would be more accesible to a movie going crowd than a property that would be recognized strictly as a "comic book movie".

Amen. After watchin Blade Trinity I found it hard to believe that he wrote 1 and 2. I just get bad images of what his Flash might have turned out like, but hopefully a new directors will make this less like an episode of WWE el la Blade 3.

Does anyone know if the movie is about Wally or Barry?

How/why would Green Lantern be seen as anything other than a "comic book movie," given that that's exactly what it is?

So let me get this straight, someone from the WB sat down and watched Night at the Museum and decided that that's the guy for the Flash? Seriously, Night at the Museum?

Who's betting it'll be Bart then. The Flash'll be young and hip for todays MTV audience. Maybe he'll even do some Jackass style stunts, yo! Or maybe punk some villains with an over-inflated gas bill....I don't know.

It says they're going for a lighter take, which I think is a good idea after Batman Begins and a Superman movie that made me want to open my wrists with my car keys. WB has yet to make a fun superhero movie.

While I really liked Batman Begins and Superman Returns, I'm glad that The Flash won't be in the same vein. Of course I'm not encouraged that the new director is the man that gave us the execrable Pink Panther reboot (it's Tim Story does Fantastic Four déjà vu!), but I'll see the upcoming film and judge it accordingly.

I think if I were going to do the Flash, I'd go along the lines of an "SR," and use the generational feel of the book. Suddenly there would be a Flash in Keystone, after years and years. The press wonders why he's come back. Jay knows that since Barry died it isn't either of them, and Wally's a family man now, so who can it be?

This would tie it in with the current book, while giving the film a sense of history, as 2 retired Flashes try to catch up with the fastest man alive, who is very busy dealing with something that's been plaguing all of them for decades.

Oh I totally agree that a lighter take would be a good idea. This is the Flash, not Batman after all. But light or not, I would prefer a director who seems to posses at least some visual flair. The direction in Night at the Museum was completely bland, which is PRECISELY not what is needed for a great visual character like the Flash.

Oh and if they want "light", I really hope that they get a writer who's in possession of at least some wit or I'm afraid we're looking at another Fantastic Four.

I say they scrap all this and just get Brad Bird and Pixar to make a 3D animated Flash movie. Now that would kiss ass!

I was watching coverage of comic con on g4 and they had a interview with one of the head people in charge of bringing dc properties to hollywood films and one of the questions asked was anything on the flash movie and he said that a screenplay is in the works and that shawn levy the director of night of the museum showed interest in the character and that he'll be directing. Thoughts?
