View Full Version : Humans: ego much?
This has probably been covered before, but it's always irked me how in a supposed infinite universe of infinite races, humans always manage to take center stage. Case in point: the death of Jason Todd as a catalyst for IC? You mean to tell me that in all of Hypertime/ multiverse/ whatever that a 'normal' (relatively) man beating a 'normal' (relatively) boy to death with a crowbar can be a trigger to something that threatens... everything? I know you have to have something the reader can identify with , hence 90% of all known alien races being some sort of biped, buy wouldn't it be neat to have at least a mini or something where humanity is little more than an afterthought, if anything? Something that puts the 'alien' back in alien... just my two yen.

Would that be alien like Superman? Or alien like the Daxamites? Or alien like the Coluans? Perhaps more alien like the Martians?
DC does come up short in the alien department, because so much of the foundation of the DCU was laid down during the Golden Age of comics, when science-fiction was still very human-centered. Aside from a couple of later Legionnaires and a bunch of Green Lanterns, the DCU seems populated by a suspiciously high percentage of bipeds.

I think it's probably because most people, myself included, aren't interested in reading about Bgl'éLa Zi of the planet RRRRRRRRRRRRKâk or whatever. If you read science fiction you pretty quickly realize that no alien in any series is actually an alien, they're just aspects of humanity given form in order to allow them to conflict. Humans with warrior code, humans as unstoppable killing machines, humans as pacafistic races, whatever. But all just aspects of humans.
As for a miniseries that focuses on aliens, isn't that pretty much what the Raan/Thanagarian war was? Even if the Raanians and Thanagarians were/are pretty human looking they're still aliens. Alternatively you could look at the Green Lantern Corps, whos main characters are human but all the secondary characters are alien. The only problem with ether of these is that the aliens don't act all that... well, alien. They're basically Humans Plus in terms of personality.

I just came from there last night. Nice people though the night sky being neon pink with a green moon made me VERY dizzy!

Yeah it should have all started because an astroid whizzing through sector Ayhole Titum bruised one of Starro's tenticals. And Kal-L and Alex and prime could have seen that from the crystal wall and thought, right that's it. No more Astroids. Lets break out of here. Bring the Multiverse back then create a new singular universe with no hunks of rock flying about causing mayhem.

Marvel's Annihilation has those stuff, and frankly it got 0 interest from me....even Rann-thanagar war wasnt on my buy list, only reason i bought the first few iss. was bcuz of it's IC tied in
Fine... the community has spoken, I'll hold my peace now. Forthwith, aliens shall be differentiated from humans simply be the presence of antennae, wings, or an extra breast. So let it be written...
