Ive read solicits for a new miniseries coming out in October called Son of Satan. I vaguely remember that name, but I cant seem to remember anything important. So who is he? What do I need to know about him to enjoy this mini? Is he related to Ghost Rider in any way? Thanks for the help.

He's better known as Daimon Hellstrom (http://www.toonopedia.com/sonsatan.htm).

And at times, Hellstorm.
He's not realted to Ghostrider. He's related to Satan. The guy's got a pretty cool visual, a huge scar/tatoo/birthmark of a pentagram on his chest and he uses a trident.
He was married to Hellcat for a while, but that's over now and he's manipualted events so that she really doesn't want anything to do with him anymore.
I think he was a Defender once but I'm not sure.

I'm not sure if this mini is going to be in any type of continuity so at this point all you need to know is he is the son of satan. He has awesome visuals though. How can you not like this guy? Anyone know the origin of the Hellstrom Hellstorm name change? Was it an error, or was it always planned out that way? I for one have always been a bigger fan of the more human hero version than what Warren Ellis turned him into.

I am going to whole heartedly support this book to because it belongs to marvel's supernatural genre. Unlike Blade it has yet to be corrupted by the corporate suits. Also the guy that did the cover to Marvel Zombies is doing the cover so they should be breathtaking.

He's not realted to Ghostrider.
He kind of is, in that they were part of the same publishing initiative, and at various times, the Satan that created Ghostie was the same one that sired Daimon. Although I think that last part has been retconned back and forth a few times. But originally, they were the same dude.

Was there a Hellstorm series? I seem to remember one in the 90's. Was that any good?

It was good, but they took him too far away from his superhero roots. It also has an appearance by Patsy and my Fave Gargoyle from the Defenders.

It was, although regrettably short-lived. It was originally written by Len Kaminski, and was pretty good under him -- and then Warren Ellis took over and brought the awesome.

Ellis's book was cool. But he did make Daimon pretty nasty, I wouldn't mind if they backed off on that a bit.
Didn't someone else write the series before Kaminsky? Something Nieves?
Anyway, I'm really looking forward to this one.

In the ultimate universe he is Shields spy on the Deffenders Team. When Hank Pym asks him if he is really the son of satan, he asks hank if he is high. lol

Here (http://www.marvunapp.com/Appendix2/hellstormdaimon.htm) is as exhaustive a bio of the character as is likely to ever exist.

Who was it that drew the Hellstorm series during Ellis' run? Name escapes me at the moment. Anyways, while the art wasn't bad he seemed to have a habit in any comic he drew of making almost every character look like they belong in some heavy metal cover band.

Leonardo Manco.

i don't like what i've seen of the inside art. i really hope it doesn't have the same effect that the art in Howling Commandoes did. there aren't enough horror titles.
The story will be all over the place. I expect it to be similar to Ennis Ghost Rider with a generic Damien Hellstorm since Axel Alonso is the editor. This man should not be an editor at Marvel given how much important continuity he ignores.

the name change was in that ellis run.
there was a sign man putting up damions' name on his door and it was spelled
wrong damion told the guy "it's hellstrom not hellstorm" and told him to fix it.
after damion thought about it he decided that the hellstorm was more appros and told the guy to leave the sign that way.:evilsmile

that's the 1st series [johnny blaze] run s.o.s was in. then he had his origin in the 1970's marvel spotlight before getting his own book [ which lasted about a dozen issues.
he was the 4th to star in that series [ marvel spotlight] the other three in order were:
1) red wolf - 1st issuse of spotlight and only 1 issue
2) werewolf by night- which got its own series
3) ghost rider [ johnny blaze version]-which also got its own series from spotlight.
4) son of satan- which also got a short series because of the spotlight and starring in the 1st ghost rider series.:evilsmile

Oh well so much respect for continuity nice to see the book getting this type of publicity though.

Oh, hell yeah. One of Ellis' best Marvel works and my favorite interpretation of Damon Hellstrom. I liked how the title started out under Kaminski, too, but really loved it under Ellis. HELLSTORM was like a Vertigo title using a Marvel character, in that it only used the appropriate Marvel supporting players (Dr. Strange, Patsy, Isaac) and then kept to itself instead of crossing over into SPIDER-MAN or AVENGERS for no reason. I think picking up the new Son of Satan will just make me miss the Ellis/Manco team instead, but I may give it a try.

Right series, but wrong author. The issue you're referring to was written by the series 1st writer, Raphael Nieves (sp), IIRC.
Of course, Daimon used "Hellstorm" as an alias when he changed costumes (worst costume ever) during his appearances with the West Coast Avengers.

He should be on an Avengers team.
The Avengers need a mystical character : Hellstorm, Dr. Strange, Brother Voodoo!!!! C'mon! U know you want to see it!

Read the first issue, discovered that Irvine has no clue regarding Daimon's character.
