Has anyone else heard of an organization called the O.S.I.R.? It stands for Office of Scientific Investigation and Research.Apparently it is a goverment funded black ops group that has been around since the 40's investigating the paranormal and the occult as well as UFO's.They went above-ground in 1999 and partnered with Dan Ackroyd for the tv show Psi-Factor which was supposedly based on their real life case files. However, many people feel that the tv show was part of a massive disinformation campaign by the US govt and the group has once more gone underground. It sounds,in my opinion,a lot like the BPRD.Was the BPRD inspired by this group?Does anyone here have any further information about the OSIR?

Dan Ackroyd? You can never take what he serves up seriously. Unless
he's dressed as Elwood. Than you can take he's music seriously.
As to the Mignola's insperation for the BPRD? I'd say Doc Savage and his
crew along with S.H.I.E.L.D. and Challengers Of The Unknown. Could be
worth an email to Scott (Beloved Editor) Allie to see if he'll reply in a
future letters column.

I heard about that too!! If it is real that would be my dream job! I did a ton of research trying to find out more about them, but theres hardly anything other then threads on conspiracy theory websites. If they are real, and I really hope they are, they are very much like the BPRD, and very top secret. And even so if this particular organization doesn't exist I'm positive the government does have some kind of paranormal research (Defense) team.

I'm pretty sure they are patterned after the OSI, with Prof Broom substittuting for Oscar Goldman and the biggest link - Steve Austin ( bionic right arm ) vs Hellboy ( right hand of doom )..i think that's pretty straightforward. Nuff said!

I'm pretty sure the whole O.S.I.R back story was created solely for the purpose of the show. It wasn't real, it was made all made up by the shows writers. It was a scripted scifi drama, and was created as a simple X-files clone, not a documentary of any kind, the series creators as well as Dan Ackroid constantly make remarks about how they can't believe that people to this day still think anything about the show was real.
It wasn't bad for what it was, but don't confuse fiction for reality.
