I couldn't fine another thread so instead of looking harder I just did this one. I am a johnny come lately on the Hawkman/ Hawkgirl. I liked the Super Friends stuff but that was it. Then along came the trades at the library vol.'s 1-4 where Geoff Johns I guess does his take on the Hawks and from what I have read he also helped Kendra in JSA. So recently my PB has become light and in need of new comics to add to the list. So I have given Hawkgirl my #3 slot.
That's where I stand so I let you you guys carry this thread along. I like Howard Chaykin's look on Kendra. I see he's moving on, I would like to see Sal Larroca or Ryan Sook come on for a good run.
You gotta love the vagina gateway that's in the book.
What say you folks?

i usually really like both Chaykin and Simonson but on this book they both left me cold and i dropped it after the first three OYL issues. i still might check in on St. Roch from time to time to see if things have changed or picked up though.

The first arc was a good, solid story arc featuring Kendra--but hardly riveting and didn't tell us what we really want to know--namely what happened to Hawkman? I think now that they are finally getting around to answering that question, the book will pick up.

I'm a big Hawkman fan from way back, since first discovering him in All-Star Squadron.
I've thoroughly enjoyed the book so far. I like the emphasis on Kendra, and I'm glad that Hawkman is missing at the moment. I think the slow buildup to his eventual return has been well handled.
I love Chaykin's art, although his need to draw her nipples through the costume can get a bit much at times.
I'm interested in seeing who his replacement is.

I'm not crazy about Chaykin's art, but the story's been interesting. X-Ray, Ryan Sook was penciller when Jimmy Palmiotti & Justin Grey took over after Geoff & Rags. Strangely enough, I thought Sook's work at the time was ill-suited for this book as well (though his Seven Soldiers: Zatanna kicked all kinds of ass). And the vagina didn't bother me. Reeks of symbollism ;)

lol. Hey I'm in Baltimore too, seemed like I was the only one. Most here seem to be in NY and out west if not overseas.

Cool, another homeboy! I go to Cards, Comics, and Collectibles in Reisterstown. If you don't already go there, it's a damn good shop. The owners organize the Baltimore Comic Con.

I would like to read Hawkgirl, but not Hawkgirl filtered through Chaykin's perversions. Hawkgirl wrestling in her lingerie, a female monster who is practically naked except for strategically placed metal plates covering the naughty bits, giant vaginas with teeth, hawk-nipples -- WHEN WILL YOU BE SATISFIED, CHAYKIN? HOW MUCH MORE?
Honestly, when I imagine Chaykin, I imagine a Caligula like guy in a toga eating grapes an applauding in the middle of an orgy.

Well, Chaykin is leaving soon. Has a replacement artist been named?

I have been very disappointed with Hawkgirl OYL. Over in the Superman books she has been knocking heads and taking names. She's a veteran of the Rann-Thanagar War. Who is this twit flying around St. Roch? I'm glad Chaykin is going. I couldn't handle any more of his bodice-ripping pin-up action.
I hope someone on this book remembers that Kendra is brash, impulsive, and head-strong. She's not a wilting flower waiting to be saved or steered in the right direction.
I agree with some of the prior posts that it is too soon to bring back Hawkman. But, we'll have to wait and see.

Well said!
And as for me, thumbs down on Chaykin's EVERYTHING in this book.
I don't know if you guys know this, but DC has announced that Bennett will be back for issues 57, 58 at least.

I droped the book,it wasn't working for me art wise an story wise. Its just not that interesting a title.THe art got alittle better but the storyline just seems weak.I may give it another try at a later date, right now that along with Aquaman an Catwomen have been droped.Books are to exspensive for reading unless there of a good quality these days sadly these just didn't make the cut for me
