no i didn't like them because they were just not good movies. first one was different from silver age, alot more serious and i don't care, half the movie is AMAZING, then once he gets to metropolis, it becomes a parody. I'm all for change if it means for the better(ie batman begins). I definately do not want to see an extremely true to the comic movie version of superman. I really love the first half of the first superman movie. the rest were horrible. SR is goddamn boring.

No, you are not alone.

They are not good films.

Superman has so much potential, yet so little of that potential has been effectively realised on the big screen.

They are good for a laugh though, unfortunately most of the time your laughing at them, not with them.

maybe its too late to wish for something thats true to the comics in a silver age fashion.

Everything on Krypton and in Smallville is well done, and Christopher Reeves nails his dual role, but I thought the rest of the film was astoundingly mediocre.

Off the top of my head:

Lex Luthor was not a threat in the least (And not funny, as well), there was poor storytelling and odd leaps of logic (Superman tells a reporter he can't see through lead, Luthor deduces that a meteorite from Krypton will hurt him), no exciting feats of strength (I never got the feeling that Superman was as powerful as he said he was; lifting a helicopter and pushing a boulder over didn't amaze me like they should). Not to mention, the "turning back time" thing doesn't make any sense (Why don't all of the disasters that just took place happen again?). It's simply a deus ex machina, and another example of poor storytelling. I also found Kidder's Lois extremely annoying and unattractive. Jimmy and Perry were just sort of "there," and Ned Beatty as Lex's henchman was over-the-top and not funny at all (Why would Lex hire such a moron in the first place?).

And don't even get me started on the "Can You Read My Mind" sequence.

I like the first two a lot but the second two are piss poor. 3 has a cupple of good moments with bad ass superman but that's it.
I don't have a problem with other comic fans not liking them, it's certainly not a crime, and if anyone does beat you up for it then their the ones with the problems.
I haven't seen the new one yet but may do tomorrow if I can find time. I don't feel very hyped about it though, even though I've read a lot of possitive stuff about it here at CBRF.

Do you like any comic book movies Curfreak? and if so which ones?

I like Spiderman 1 and 2. The tv movie ones are beyond awful.
I like Xmen 1 and 2 but have yet to see 3.
I thought Hulk was very boring and lost.
Daredevil had a few nice tricks but on the whole was bad.
Electra was bad, but I liked the tattoo guy.
Batman looks great and has good music but Burton got so much wrong and there is too little action and what there is feels very staged. Returns is a little better but not much. 3 is crap and a backward step and 4 is so ugly it's not true. I really enjoyed Begins but want the costume to be more traditional.

I also collect and play Heroclix, which has cost me a small fortune buying up rare uniques on eBay.
I won't mention the other toys I've got.;)
